    Edward James Olmos was outstanding in this role. I couldn't imagine anyone else as Commander Adama. This show is my all time favorite series. How gratifying it must have been for the cast and crew to have been a part of so great a project.

      When he puts on that uniform, he _is_ Commander Adama. This show is so immersive, because all of the cast bring their own character's story to life. They respond to threats differently, have their own knowledge about the world they're in... have unique secrets that when you go back later, you can see manifesting through their scenes as a kind of foreshadowing. Tremendous depth. I don't have the proper words for it.
      I hope they feel every bit as proud for what they've created together as they want to, because they deserve to.

    Got can we just appreciate the absolute amount of shit the Galactica suffered and still managed to push through?! Even if it's just sci-fi, that ship was as much a character as the Falcon, Serenity, or the Original Enterprise.

    A wonderful moment in that scene was the use of the main melody line of the orginal BSG theme as the soundtrack music as Adama passes over the ship

    You were awesome through the entire series. So many memorable moments for us as fans. One of my favorite episodes is when you all took off your dog tags and entered the ring, and you beat the hell out of Chief Tyrell. You also held up Colonel Ty throughout the entire series, as any good friend would do for another. The other thing that I loved about the series was how much Doc Cottle reminded me of Deforest Kelly as Doctor McCoy on Star Trek. Same rough, grumpy exterior and caring man on the inside, who could control you when he needed to, like when the Gemise girl came in for an abortion and he suggested, ever so subtly, that she apply for asylum aboard the Gallactica. It was all so well done and you did so well, making the whole thing believeable.
    It was an honor watching you Admiral!

    I came quite late to the BSG party as I had seen the original and wasn’t sure if a new one had much to offer? How wrong I was! Just one minute in and I was hooked, like many of the comments on here I watch and rewatch regularly as it to me at least took that rare award of the perfect hat trick,
    1 A great story.
    2 Produced and acted superbly.
    3 Ended spectacularly.
    In my opinion that’s hard to beat. Thank you and all the cast and crew for making a masterpiece.

      As someone who's an Original BSG fan who never really got into the "story" part of NuBSG, I think it's impossible to deny this show is a master class in everything about how to do a TV series. You can't watch this show and not be impressed by the level of detail of thought which went into it.

    3 of the 4 guys in the control room had seen the entire show and suggested it to the 4th. He spent nearly every day watching an episode. Coming on watch more and more excited, it was hard to talk without spoilers. It opened up moral and philosophical discussions to fill our 6 hour watches. After a few months seeing the same 3 people in a 10ft by 10ft box (add the consoles and it is 8x5), you run out of stories or general topics... not a lot of news comes to a submarine crew at sea.
    This scene was touching. Seeing the mangled wreck at the finish line. Leaving "Home" for the last time and knowing you would never see it again.

      Victim of a writers strike causing them to rush it. In reality it needed an extra season to clear up Starbuck, and Head Baltar/6 without leaving so many important questions until the last episode and just concluding "uhhh, God dun it". An alternative rational explanation offered in addition to the religious one might have been a nice idea, with some characters opting for one over the other and the viewer left to decide for themselves.

    I wish RDM/DE would have worked a backstory scene with the web series young Adama in the same Viper doing a flyby of a pristine Battlestar Galactica as a bookend to this scene... Juxtaposing those two characters (The Admiral and the Battlestar), how they aged, all they went through, and delivering humanity safely - would have been a strong story point and powerful image. Not necessarily during the finale but at some point during the series run…

    • @billmilligan7272
      @billmilligan7272 Před 6 lety +1

      Well, you did, kind of. In the miniseries, you had young Adama doing a fancy flyby (also to the original BSG theme) in the same Viper of a Galactica before it had a single bruise. It was his son flying in the miniseries, yes, but it's enough poignancy on both bookends for symmetry.

    My favorite sci fi series, even more than Star Trek TOS or Star Trek DS9.
    It would be hard to give up their technology on a wild Earth though...Humanity would be doomed. I thought it would have worked better if this had happened 4,150,000 years ago, and keeping their technology...and though it would all eventually turn to dust, Mankind would have a fighting chance to survive...

      He fulfilled his promise and got them to Earth. I liked that the show wasn't afraid of dealing with loss along the journey and I especially liked that Adama lost more than anyone else, but still had the strength of conviction to see his promise through to the very end, in spite of the personal cost to him of all the loss and personal grief that he endured. Pretty much every character lost someone, but for Adama, he was the father to his entire crew, if not the wider fleet. Every lost crew member and every destroyed ship was like losing his son all over again for him.
      It's a testiment to how strong he was as a character.

    I'm a bit confused
    He's talking about it as if he actually flew the viper out of the Galactica... which... I though the Galactica would never fly again.
    It's been years since I saw an episode so forgive my ramblings.

    • @PetersaberHD
      @PetersaberHD Před 5 lety +4

      Adama did fly the last Viper out of Galactica. Galactica herself was still space-worthy, but she wouldn't be able to FTL jump due to structural damage.
      Olmos is talking from the PoV of his character, not his own.

    • @rocketguardian2001
      @rocketguardian2001 Před 5 lety

      Very often the show would tell the story it wanted to tell even if it meant running over logic and common sense. The idea of a highly technological society wanting to give it all up makes a lot of sense given the themes and subtext of the show...it works as story, but anyone who gives up firearms to live on Earth 150 000 years ago is lining up to be saber cat food. I suppose it makes sense in that Hera's lineage is the only one that survives. Everyone else dies out.

    • @scifisurfer8879
      @scifisurfer8879 Před 3 lety

      @@rocketguardian2001 We do not know that everyone else died out. In fact, it seems highly unlikely that that would be the case, given the various different ethnicities represented in the show along with what we see of the hunter/gatherers of Earth at the point in time the fleet arrives. As happens in real life, sometimes the evidence left lying around which is later discovered is only some of what had originally been there, the rest more fully succumbing to the elements, or perhaps getting covered over in huge bodies of water, or others getting swallowed up by the Earth itself and now either buried so deep underground that we'll never find it, or being buried so deep that it's crushed and pulverized by the weight of all the stuff on top. And, frankly, who can say if some things (again, I'm talking in the real world) didn't eventually find their way to what is now the upper mantle layer, and just melted and dissolved away.
      Look at it like this: there were still some Colonial vessels on Earth's surface (for example, Adama's viper) because you had to have some way for the last few people up in orbit to get down to the surface. None of that was ever discovered -- not even a hint of it, evidently -- in the 150,000 years since that time, so it all points to the fact that people of the far distant future/present day aren't left with very much to find. Once again, this is very much a thing borne out by experience in the real world (likely billions of dinosaurs roaming the surface, yet we've only found the tiniest fraction of that number).
