Absolutely LOVE Goonies!! Its a comfort to me. You can "feel" the 80's when you watch. The friendship between the kids is awesome, it takes place in the fall, my favorite season, and the fact that Cyndi Lauper sings the amazing theme song tops it off. ☠️☠️☠️
Here's a super obscure bonus fact about The Goonies that I have observed ... If you go back and watch Spielberg's original Jurassic Park and pay particular attention to the crooked lab worker Nedry you will see that during each of his scenes he is essentially cosplaying some of The Goonies.... Early on he sports a Hawaiian attire resembling the shirt Chunk wears in the truffle shuffle scene. Later on when Nedry is sneaking around the lab he has a grey jacket and shirt combo that ressembles the outift Mouth is wearing in Mikey's house at the beginning of The Goonies. The 3rd instance I noticed was when Nedry is fleeing (just before he gets maimed by little dinosaurs) he is wearing a 3 part combo of a T-Shirt under a slightly open heavy blue shirt and topped off with an olskool yellow rain coat just like the combo Mikey is wearing as they approach the Fratelli hideout... Once you see these things in Jurassic Park with The Goonies in mind it seems pretty blatant that Spielberg was doing it on purpose ... Check it out!!
Wow, I don't have to rewatch the movie. As soon as I read your first sentence I knew and remembered that you're right. It's quite obvious, but I never really thought about it until I read your comment. Great catch. Only thing I want to tweak: Cory Feldman (Mouth) wore that Grey Member's Only jacket throughout the entire movie, not just the beginning.
The friend chemistry between all the kids is so perfect. They all seem like they've known eachother all their lives. My 9 year old just watched this movie and she loved it. (I was also 9 when I first saw it in the theater)
I was nine (turned ten that September), too. I saw it in the theater the Saturday after it came out, June 8, 1985. I still remember how psyched my brother and I were to see it. This movie was totally a portrait of our Gen-X childhood. Riding our bikes everywhere, having adventures on our own. Kids are too restrained now and It's a shame.
This movie truly captured the feeling of childhood adventure and exploration. This is how I wanted my childhood to be, minus the adults trying to kill me. I used to explore all over my area growing up and as a military brat, we moved a lot.
I was four years old and lived one block up the street, on 38th St, from where they filmed the Goonies house. I don't remember seeing the actors but I remember seeing the crew and all the film equipment. I remember how my dad said that he witnessed Spielberg doing most of the directing. I am almost 42 years old and now. I teach Screenwriting to college students in Kansas. I believe The Goonies and Kindergarten Cop (same town and my childhood school) led me into a life of teaching film.
Totally agreed that Chunk's actor has always seemed like he should have stayed in show business as he was phenomenal. Fortunately it seems like he has done fine for himself anyway
I was 13 when Goonies came out and my dad took me and my best friend to see it. We're still best friends to this day and we will always consider ourselves Goonies. And we had many cool adventures throughout our lives and now we're sharing them and the love for the Goonies with our children. I'm so happy I grew up in the 70's and 80's. What a cool time of history. ...
Same! I was eleven and my Brother was twelve. One of my favorite parts of The Goonies was the earnestness of Sean Astin whenever he had to deliver one of Mikey’s speeches or monologues. I'm one of those middle aged people that grew up watching The Goonies....I was 11 when it came out and I remember watching it in the theater and LOVING IT !!! Of course I still watch it now along with all the other classics from the 80's....imo the 80's was the BEST decade to grow up in !!!
I'm one of those old farts who grew up watching The Goonies. It came out when I was 12, but I wasn't allowed to see it, my parents never took us to the movies, but as soon as it came out on VHS I watched it and fell in love with it. I must admit to having a teen crush on Andy as well. It was a bad time in my life being bullied at home and school, and The Goonies took me to a place I wanted to go. I wanted to be a Goonie. Still now I enjoy watching it, and add it to my list of regular rotation 80s movies, which includes Ghostbusters, Flight of the Navigator, Neverending Story, BTTF, The Princess Bride, and Labyrinth.
You know what's even more amazing and what makes this movie even better? The amount this movie made usually sparks sequel after sequel to try to cash in more. That never happened with this one. It stands unique and alone.
Ref: fact 3 - Michael J Fox had his interview one week after Jeff Cohen's hilarious appearance (I actually saw it live on tv). When Wogan mentioned Jeff had been on show, Michael immediately says "Did he bring his hats?!" First goal to Michael!
How can you remember all that from 40 years ago? I watched Wogan then and the only thing I remember is the hat. Although now I think about it that bit about Michael Fox asking about the hats does feel right. I'll have to be careful, if I start remembering everything I watched in the 80's I won't have time for anything else.
It hit me like lightning when you mentioned, “nearly forty years later”. I vividly remember being 8 and seeing it with my Dad, and him laughing his ass off when Chunk did The Truffle Shuffle. 😆😆😆
It amazes me how timeless this movie is when I pop it in for the kids today. I have all the questions and conversations about it for a couple of weeks after they see it. Wonderfully, I have your videos to recommend to the kids. That leads to a whole new set of questions, but that just adds to the fun.
84-85 seemed so much simpler and promising! This movie takes me back to these times, when out of date houses were from the 50's and 60's and time moved slower (so it seemed) and the world was just looking at the beginning of the digital age.
I normally HATE kids being "precocious" and generally just trying hard to be funny. It usually irritates the hell out of me, but that Terry Wogan interview with the "Chunk" kid is exceptional. That kid seems like he actually has something. Wonder why he never came to anything in Hollywood terms?🤷♂️ Note: Just checked Wikipedia. He appears to have become a successful entertainment lawyer so, you know, good for him! Also Goonies director Richard Donner offered to pay for his college education. It doesn't say whether that happened but it says he offered.
@@nicholas_scott : reality TV programs just irritate me, as much as someone who does that awful ‘nails on a chalkboard’ thing!!! Too bad that they have audiences big enough to allow them to keep putting this 💩 on........ instead of quality programs!!!
It makes me feel OG that I got to see this movie in the theater at 7 years old and then my mom bought the VHS tape when it was released. This movie had heavy impact on my youth.
The Goonies is one of my all time favourite films. Truly magnificent fun adventure and great music and acting to. Also very memorable music that even today when hearing it takes me back to when I first watched The Goonies in the mid-1980s. Terry Wogan - referenced in this video of Minty's 10 More Things.. was wonderfully charming and fun, he never put down his guests in any nasty ways but he did poke fun at them. I had the pleasure in the latter 1980s to go to see Live with my school mates and teacher, to be part of the audience see Wogan [the chat show] being recorded at the BBC Television Centre White City in London. I particularly remember one occasion my school mate and I were looking through the doors of the Infamous BBC Canteen [as we were waiting outside the Television Studio]... and willing newsreader Michael Beurk to take a donut to buy then eat. He did much to our delight. Then we were aware alongside us of a gentleman with a twinkle in his eye and it was Terry Wogan and he was interested which school we were from & said to us, "I hope you enjoy my show, you are very welcome" then he went in to the Studio and we then took our seats with the rest of the audience...
National treasure, Wogan did so much for British TV and radio. Genuine charismatic man. I am jealous you got to go to one of his shows, never mind meet him! :S
didn't know you got Art Attack Down Under. also, Young Sherlock Holmes is pretty notable for one scene, the one where a knight from a stained glassed window seems to come to life and leap from the window. an effect like this had never been seen before in a movie and it's remarkable how well it's held up
My siblings and I had the original board game! I'd completely forgotten until watching this video. Thank you so much for including it, it really brought back a piece of my childhood.
My kids still watch this one. They love it. and so do I. I remember carrying a marble bag, because of this movie. You never know when you might need a marble bag.
Minty, thank you for that info about Spielberg and the learning disability. As someone who is autistic, not only can I relate, but more so now, as I’m trying my hand at independent film making currently. It’s been a big help. This inspired me to keep on going down this route.
I remember watching this movie in the theaters when I was a kid and absolutely loved it. I showed it to my kids when they were young; they loved it, and we were actually able to make a trip down to see the house before it was closed to the public several years ago. I can not wait to share this movie with my grandchildren. It is a timeless classic.
The Goonies is a childhood favourite of mine, my 7 year old self absolutely loved it...and i still do. I remember seeing The Goonies advert with the other Movie titles making up the name of the film. I had completely forgotten about that until i watched it again in this video, then forgotten memory resurfaced in my mind. Thanks Minty.
Still know a lot of the lines by heart. Never knew about the learning disability. I appreciate that, I also have a learning disability. Growing up and learning different techniques to learn things, has made me a stronger adult. I also can understand and be patient with others. Growing up was the difficult time. I praise the teachers and all who help children through this time.
The Goonies will always be a favorite of mine. It inspired me to write my own back story to One-Eyed Willy, which I really wanna visualize in some way in the future. I see it as a 3-parter movie story; Part 1 introduces Willy and shows his transitions into a pirate and how he became captain to the Inferno, Part 2 shows him stealing the treasure and trying to fight off the armada til he gets trapped in the cave, Part 3 shows him and the crew setting up the caves and traps all the while Willy goes insane. I have a lot more details about side characters, plot points, how certain things lead up to how something appears in The Goonies, etc. Although I don’t wanna spend all day typing it out here.
@Jack's Professional Productions do you remember the Goonies 2 NES video game albeit some people swear there was an actual sequel Goonies 2 movie? I guess it's a Mandela Effect LOL! 🤔🤷🤗🤨
What a wonderful video, I loved the Goonies as a kid, and now my 9 and 10 year old boys also love watching this absolutely awesome 1980's classic. Has to be one of the most timeless movies ever. ♥️
I spent an insane amount of time over the years playing the Goonies video game on my Atari computers. I never beat it as a kid, but then got my Atari out in like 2002 with a walkthrough and beat it just so I could finally say I had, haha. Good stuff.
@Minty, a 10 things u didn't know about Close Encounters would be great! I absolutely love that movie & being another Spielberg movie with fantastic scenes esp with the UFO's & Grey's
I hold that the goonies is one of the greatest movies ever made. And let's be honest that Interview would have gone viral these days and made that kid a comedic star.
@mark shaw Probably because both the creators and writers were there to make a good And entertaining story. not worried how to check Certain ideological boxes.Right now Hollywood is under some kind of cult of ideology
The commentary from the special edition DVD is basically the only one of its kind, or at least the only one of its kind that I have caught. Even other films with ensemble casts don't include commentaries like that one, with a camera lens focusing intermittently on the cast and director. It was so touching in the summer of 2021 for me to catch an interview clip of Robert Davi (Jake Fertelli) ommenting on how oh life has imitated art in the time since the Goonies was new. He says that there have been instances where children have had to come through for their parents and bring home the bacon the same way that the Goonies did during their treasure hunt. Richard Donner is missed.
Used to watch this movie everyday when I was like 4 to 6 years old. One of my all time favorites so many great memories. Used to sit in our clothes basket and act like it was the inferno and I had found one eye Willy’s treasure when I was watching it. Chunk and Data were my favorites. This movie should never be remade because they would just ruin with all the cg.
Great job on the goonies! One of my favorite movies from the 80's. Reminds me of my childhood and how fun movies can be. It was a much simpler time. Keep em comin!!!!
I have to say you have such great content. Found myself binge watching almost qll your content as of recent. Well researched, very humorous and just all around fun!! Looking forward to more.
One of my all time favorite movies. I was 11 and saw it 5 times in the theatre the summer it came out. I had a magazine about the making of the movie (I think I still have it), I had the board game... I was obsessed with that movie summer of 1985. I still pretty much know the whole movie by heart and if I come across it while flipping TV channels, I'll stop and watch (even if it's the last 15 minutes),
I enjoy the goonies but the one thing that has stayed with me even since I was a little kid is that they yell so much… even as an adult my brain gets overwhelmed sometimes lol. It’s realistic for sure! They need a 7.2 channel mix where each kids gets his own channel when they talk lol
A rare occasion in my childhood. Staying overnight at an aunt house. She recommend I watch this movie so I did. It was the most amazing thing I've ever saw up to that point in my life.😁
The thing is I never realized how beloved the Goonies was until the age of the internet. To me it was nothing really special as my parents seemed to let us watch more adult films. I also felt the same way about The Princess Bride.
Cool Video again Minty. Never knew of these cut scenes or the dynamic between Richard Donner and the Kids and Richard Donner with Steven Spielberg. I'm an 80s kid so I love this video.
I love that you're going back and doing 10 more on some of our favorite movies and best ones that you've done so far because having a total list of 20 is awesome I also think it's cool that you're adding at the end is coming the videos of movies that you're a particular fan of your collection cuz I think that's one video series I watch a lot of its people who show off their collectibles of whether it's movie memorabilia or comic books just anything awesome like that I also like that a lot of your facts are things I've ever heard before or a better take on something I heard and it dies a little deeper if I see one more top 10 list regurgitating the same crap over again I think I'm going to scream but when I watch yours it's inevitable that some will overlap but 80% of your list I'm learning stuff for the first time
The Goonies is one of my absolute favourite movies. I'm actually glad that the octopus scene was cut because it didn't really seem to fit in with the rest of the movie. I'm lucky enough to have the Goonies game on my Commodore 64 as well as the two Goonies games on the NES. Goonies II is such a great game despite the weird mermaid story. 😃
I was 5 yrs old when this movie came out. I still will put this movie on. It does take me back. I even wear a Goonies pin I my hat that I recently found at a store and bought.
The commentary track from the Goonies DVD is probably the most unique of its kind. There have been commentaries where there was a camera lens on the contributors at the beginning or the end. This one is the only one where there is a constant camera feed on the performers and director; it switches back-and-forth between the film itself and the camera feet where the film becomes a thumbnail in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. The Goonies cast and Richard Donner did that in the summer of 2001. I first saw it five years later. As of March 2024, it hasn’t gotten old for me. Richard Donner may be gone, but he won’t be forgotten.
Classic. I made a trip out to Astoria last summer with my family to visit this house and other Goonies-related sites (and the Kindergarten Cop school just a block up the road). Bucket list items for sure.
Oh yeah, more facts about another classic film, I wondered what other film that has more facts, cool video as always Minty, keep up the good work, take care & you have a great weekend
Absolutely love The Goonies it's one of my favorite movies of all time I always wish they would have made a sequel back then I've heard rumors of one for years but I have a feeling if they did one today it would just be good as the first usually sequels or not especially nowadays
Used to watch this movie every morning for about 2 years to fall asleep. Watched it on VHS. I really wish movies like this were made today. RIP Richard Donner.
You've been so amazing to capture 80s /90s spirit in covering these classic movies!!! You have so done an amazing jobs to help us tap into our nostalgic side. BUT your like me!!!!.... Fact #12 The ending at the beach When the Goonies are found by the police and reunited with their parents. It happened at a place south of Astoria called Indian Beach at Ecola State Park. This beach was also used for the ending of the movie Point Break where Johnny Utah and Bodie fight in the sand and surf. There's even a marker showing fans where Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves fought on the beach. Other movies that were filmed at Indian Beach or other parts of Ecola State Park are Kindergarten Cop, Point Break, Twilight: New Moon, and of course Goonies. The old restaurant that the Fratelli's used was build in the day use center of Ecola State Park. The day use center was also used in once again for Kindergarten Cop during the school picnic scene.

The kids today you seen on “reality” shows and CZcams try so hard to be precocious, it comes off as obnoxious and irritating
@@nicholas_scott Yes. A thousand times, YES!
He seemed so natural, didn't he? I was impressed!
I have a learning disability myself & makes me appreciate this movie even more. I have loved this movie since I was a kid.
One of my fav movies! Love being an 80s bsby lol.
Hey minty. I honestly like that you're revisiting old videos and giving us even more facts. Definitely keep it up 👍🏻
Absolutely dig your channel and been watching for over two years now. I like the "even more" episodes that you post
@Randy Huber but his titles misleading. I knew most of these facts, how does he know what we know or dont?
Congratulations on 400K subscribers Minty! You are the best!
And Keri Green in a miniskirt. I had the biggest crush on her back in the day!
The movie has everything a movie needs to be good. From the actors to the soundtrack. PERFECTION.
The Atari game was actually pretty fun and it's challenging as well. I still play it from time to time on the Commodore 64.
Chunk's life story in the goonies is one of the funniest things i have ever seen in a movie.great memories.
didn't know you got Art Attack Down Under. also, Young Sherlock Holmes is pretty notable for one scene, the one where a knight from a stained glassed window seems to come to life and leap from the window. an effect like this had never been seen before in a movie and it's remarkable how well it's held up
My siblings and I had the original board game! I'd completely forgotten until watching this video. Thank you so much for including it, it really brought back a piece of my childhood.
My kids still watch this one. They love it. and so do I. I remember carrying a marble bag, because of this movie. You never know when you might need a marble bag.
Goonies never say die!
Minty, thank you for that info about Spielberg and the learning disability. As someone who is autistic, not only can I relate, but more so now, as I’m trying my hand at independent film making currently. It’s been a big help. This inspired me to keep on going down this route.
Best of luck to you!! ❤️😊
May the medium of film channel your unique perceptions
Great post, thank you for sharing. And I wish you the best of luck in your film making.
One of my favorite movies, I saw it in the theater when I was a kid. What a awesome time to be a kid!
Awesome idea! Hopefully we'll get to see your movie sometime! I'll be first in line @
Yes!
I hold that the goonies is one of the greatest movies ever made.
And let's be honest that Interview would have gone viral these days and made that kid a comedic star.
I agree, hard to explain why, movies of that time was just great somehow, maybe how shot or written ? I just can't explain.
@mark shaw Probably because both the creators and writers were there to make a good And entertaining story. not worried how to check Certain ideological boxes.Right now Hollywood is under some kind of cult of ideology
Yes! I second that. Alot of 80s movies were the greatest movies ever made
@@markshaw270 yeah, something about movies of the 80s were just fantastic
That interview is so cute, I love the Goonies! Great job Minty! Congratulations on 400,000 subscribers!
So many awesome memories:)
Minty, I am absolutely loving the 10 more things videos 🥰 You're awesome 💜
A true comedic 80s classic, was and is still sequel worthy.
Cool Video again Minty. Never knew of these cut scenes or the dynamic between Richard Donner and the Kids and Richard Donner with Steven Spielberg. I'm an 80s kid so I love this video.
Saw it with my summer camp group in 1985 it's one of my favorite memories...it's still awesome 👌🏽👏🏾😎
I love that you're going back and doing 10 more on some of our favorite movies and best ones that you've done so far because having a total list of 20 is awesome I also think it's cool that you're adding at the end is coming the videos of movies that you're a particular fan of your collection cuz I think that's one video series I watch a lot of its people who show off their collectibles of whether it's movie memorabilia or comic books just anything awesome like that I also like that a lot of your facts are things I've ever heard before or a better take on something I heard and it dies a little deeper if I see one more top 10 list regurgitating the same crap over again I think I'm going to scream but when I watch yours it's inevitable that some will overlap but 80% of your list I'm learning stuff for the first time
Sounds like someone stumbled across WhatCulture
The Goonies is one of my absolute favourite movies. I'm actually glad that the octopus scene was cut because it didn't really seem to fit in with the rest of the movie.
I'm lucky enough to have the Goonies game on my Commodore 64 as well as the two Goonies games on the NES. Goonies II is such a great game despite the weird mermaid story. 😃
I was 5 yrs old when this movie came out. I still will put this movie on. It does take me back. I even wear a Goonies pin I my hat that I recently found at a store and bought.
Always brings a smile to my face. Getting old sucks 😔.
Instantly clickable content! Thanks Minty
I'm 40, and this is still my favorite movie of all time! Love love love it!
Damn... that Art Attack sweater is sure a piece of pop culture...
Now I'm gonna have the music stuck in my head all week...
Great video Minty.
I'm.47, I saw The Goonies at the cinema in 1985 aged 10 and loved it. Just the best times to grow up in the 80's
Constantly watched this film as a kid 🤟🤟
Fantastic video as always. That interview with the Chunk actor is amazing!
The Goonies is one of my childhood favourites
Classic. I made a trip out to Astoria last summer with my family to visit this house and other Goonies-related sites (and the Kindergarten Cop school just a block up the road). Bucket list items for sure.
The actor who played Chunk went on to be a lawyer. Crazy
I read somewhere that Data became a stuntman for other films
I enjoy watching your videos with my breakfast. Very underrated channel. Keep up the fantastic work
The way that mouth treated Rosalina I’m surprised that she just did not take the bag and run lol but great video!:)
Oh yeah, more facts about another classic film, I wondered what other film that has more facts, cool video as always Minty, keep up the good work, take care & you have a great weekend
My sons grew up with this movie. I loved it, watched it several times, and would still watch it, given the opportunity.
Mark regardless of what your disability is you do a bloody good job of making these videos and long may you continue to do so.
WOW! "Chunk" actor was absolutely ON FIRE!!! That's kid's brain worked comedy like only the best of the best...he was so quick!! Brilliant!
Been binge watching all these.. brings back memories I'm a child of the 80s
You've been so amazing to capture 80s /90s spirit in covering these classic movies!!!
You have so done an amazing jobs to help us tap into our nostalgic side.
BUT your like me!!!!.... Your brought up in the UK and also Australia..... And we both know that independent children and family television industry was dominated by the independent aussie and British companies....
I understand your audience is mainly American
But would u consider doing one of minties nostalgia TV past on British /Australian childrens.show..... I reckon it was a massive industry that perhaps the Americans don't know about..... But for use it was amazing xxxx

Because the underdogs overcome, that’s why. It teaches without being preachy, has a terrific storyline, humor, coming of age situations - I could go on. That’s why!
I am looking for that interview! Cohen was brilliant with his witty retorts. The interviewer was trying to get the best of his guests but Cohen was ready!!
After all tis time I still watch this film once a year. One of the best films to raise the spirit.
Love the jumper Minty, instantly took me back to my childhood. 👍🏽
Fact #12 The ending at the beach
When the Goonies are found by the police and reunited with their parents.
I have watched it with my kids multiple times! It’s a fantastic movie that just always makes you feel good!
I love that so many of the cast have had fantastic success, even if it wasn't immediately after these early performances. I love and miss the 80s
I use to play the Goonies arcade version all the time back in days.
