- At RM Sotheby's auction at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix , Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster w29 was sold for a record sum of 9.9 million dollars. Thus, this Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster was the most expensive car sold in the history of this auction.
The vehicle is considered one of the finest interwar automobile ever and was coach built in just 419 examples.
Mercedes 540K models go, this was a particularly special example. Originally sold in the US, chassis 130894 is a desirable high-door long-tail body, which also has a flawless history coming from its last owner of 29 years.
The red 1937 example sold by RM Sotheby’s in Biltmore Arizona is an early pre-production car, which makes it even more valuable. The last time this car was on the market was in 1989, so buyers launched a bidding war that made this specimen set a new record in the state. It is also one of the most expensive 540K Special Roadsters ever, but its value is set to grow over the years if the new owner takes good care of it.

Correct! This Mercedes 540 k the car par excellence. Horch had the counterpart. What is now called a car, oh, forget it. Apart from technology, Mercedes can still do that today. Reliability is still a top priority. But quality? When Mercedes was still called DaimlerChrysler, these boxes rusted faster than they were driving. Even Fiat, Renault, Citroën and so on were better protected from rust than Mercedes Benz.
@@Dieselschlucker1312 old Mercedes Benz was reliable but the newer ones fail within 24hrs after the warranty is up and the service and maintenance is too much, that is why i say away from them... i was going to buy a then new A217 (S class convertible) back in 2019 its a very good looking car but didn't buy it..

In 2018, Gooding & Co, Pebble Beach Auction sold Gary Cooper's 1935 Duesenberg SSJ for a record $22,000,000. As beautiful as the Mercedes 540 K is, Cooper's Duesenberg would have blown it off the road without breaking a sweat! 400hp vs 180hp. Top speed of the 540 was 105 where the SSJ could hit 105 in second gear and 135 in third. That said, the Mercedes had a much more high tech suspension for the time. But for raw top speed....Duesenberg was the fastest car in the world in 1935.

Correct - Fred and August Duesenberg were German immigrants, and made some of the very finest cars, with uncompromising quality, in the world. The 1935 Duesenberg SJ Gurney-Nutting Speedster, built for The Maharaja Holkar of Indor, would certainly stand up to any Mercedes of the time in looks and be well ahead of it in speed!

Herr von Bohlen & Halbach wusste schon, was Spaß macht, als er in den 1930/40ern mit dem Wagen über die einsamen Landstraßen von Bredeney, Kettwig & Co. cruiste (während seine Kanonen ostwärts ins Unheil cruisten).

Сейчас настало такое время,когда потребительские качества товара примерно схожи,например и Феррари может создать комфортабельный авто типа мерседеса ( GT456) и мерс быстрый авто типа феррари (SLR), тут на первое место выходит Харизма. И в этом мерседес никто не подвинет, буггати восстал из пепла, ролс-ройс повелся под бмв,Бентли лег под фольксваген, про остальных и говорить нечего-шелупень! Некоторые равные марки типа изоты или дюэенберга приказала долго жить, так что вывод один- Мерседес как был, так и остался №1!
