    Hi, Boca! Excellent version of MK1 you have there, did not know about such, thank you! Other thing - cant wrap my head around, why this Batman cart looks so big, elongated even, is it some special edition? Your Sega looks like brand new.

    • @BocaRetroGames
      @BocaRetroGames  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey lauraiss ! The Batman cart is just a pirate cart which came with one of the consoles I bought back in 2015. It had no label and I printed one for it, but it had the wrong size... regarding the console itself, yes its the most beatiful shell of all of them and it's a va1 from 1989. Unfortunately this revision has some incompatibilities with a few games when using everdrive... usually the new ones.
      My va6 and va4 died so I'm currently using this one now.
      Wish u all the best mate !

      Rom chips cost a LOT more back then. 2MB was likely the limit probe was forced to work with. The other Genesis ports looked a lot better but, their Rom chips were also a lot larger too. Anyway, i Still love this port. It was always good, the Arcade Edition just made it even better.

    I have the ROM of this on my Genesis Everdrive cartridge, and I love it! It may not be COMPLETELY “arcade-perfect”, but it’s a HUGE upgrade from the original Genesis release. It uses the Genesis music and engine, but everything else has been upgraded. Just goes to show that the original version of the Genesis port could have been so much better - but Probe and Acclaim were well known for making half-assed ports of arcade games. This upgraded version is what the original version should have been.

      @@BocaRetroGames Though to be honest, I strongly believe that it doesn't matter if it's authorized or not. I don't give a fuck if the person who made the rom hack says it's ok or not, they released it for free online, and therefore they have NO say in how people have the right to use it or not. It's not like they even have rights to their "work" anyway, it's just modifying a copyrighted video game product with an IP belonging to the original company, so it's laughable that they try to claim any kind of ownership of it just because they altered the coding of this game they don't even own. I completely disagree with this bullcrap they whine about, claiming it's "selling" their work. It's commissioning a third party to make a plastic case around a free IPS patch attached to a rom. That's completely independent of the hacking process and completely outside the scope of this free IPS patch, and the "devs" have literally no right to tell me or anyone what they can and can't do with their hack once it's out there... and frankly, screw some of them for trying. They have no say in the matter and people can use it however in the hell they want to. I really enjoy the results of many rom hackers out there, but also a lot of them have egos more misplaced and far bigger than they deserve to have, too.

    Non beveled edges on games carts causing damage to your console pin connector is not exactly true. If you are hard on your games and tend to slam them in and rip them out, yes it can cause massive wear and in some cases can damage the pin connector. But as careful as most collectors are, it won’t case any issues with careful use. This is just a typical worry of a non issue in the collecting community.

      @@BocaRetroGames Mine appears to be revision 1.3 from early 2023. I went through all of the menus and found a "Shadows" option defaulted to OFF. Turning it ON, however, does not work. So I put the original MK1 in and it too has no shadows. Going to assume it's because I'm not using a real Genesis, but an Intec arcade deck, which is a clone.

    • @BocaRetroGames
      @BocaRetroGames  Před 8 měsíci +1

      That must be why, the clone hardware. 1.1 is the last one from the original devs. It's already on 2.0 from others

    Unbeveled cartridges seems to be a common issue on independent releases on the other hand can anyone explain to me technically what will be the damage on the slot if we use them? Because i get that a beveled one will be inserted more easily but is this the only problem (slot pins stress) or is it something more?

    • @BocaRetroGames
      @BocaRetroGames  Před 2 lety

      Slot pins start to get unaligned, the pins can get damaged and that can make the contact between the pins and cart more difficult overtime

    • @proximacentauri8256
      @proximacentauri8256 Před 2 lety +1

      @@BocaRetroGames Correct but what i do not get is that the pins go all the way down to the slot and it seems to my eyes that a beveled cartridge affects only the top of them. As far as anyone does not use brutal force inserting it but tries to do it gently everything will be fine? I got one unbeveled cartridge (with many games) from China and also the Power Base Mini Fm adapter from Stone Age Gamer that i purchased some years ago is unbeveled. Demons Of Asterborg was accused on some forums for using unbeveled cartridges but their copies (and of course mine) are for sure beveled.

    • @BocaRetroGames
      @BocaRetroGames  Před 2 lety

      Yeah I agree with you, and didn't really care about the cartridge being beveled or not until recently. But this one was really really thick and I almost couldn't insert it in the cart slot, and also couldn't remove it afterwards, that's why it has started to worry me, and why I've tried to bevel it .

      @@BocaRetroGames Filing down the cartridges was in my for mind for many years now but i never tried it, is the pcb material hard also how long did it take you?

    • @BocaRetroGames
      @BocaRetroGames  Před 2 lety

      The pcb is not that hard, but you have to put some force on it. We just need to be carefull to do not scracht the cart pins. It took me like 20 to 30 min to slowly and carefully do that

    Is it just me or does the cartridge look really really small? I used to have a genesis and I remember the cartridges being bigger than that. Maybe my hands were smaller when I owned a genesis

    • @BocaRetroGames
      @BocaRetroGames  Před 2 lety +1

      Hehehe. Genesis carts have always looked smaller than snes, nes, or even Master system ones which were squared . But pf course the EA carts looked different and were a lot bigger than regular ones. Also the Japanese carts are little " fatter"then the American version.

    This is an outstanding version of the game. The only other thing I wish they’d done, which really bugged me in the original, is made the life bars closer to the arcade. I know it’s a nit-pick but I don’t like how the names aren’t inside the gauge like the arcade. There’s probably a good reason for not doing it, if anyone knows what it is could you enlighten me?!

    • @Sinn0100
      @Sinn0100 Před 2 lety

      The Sega Genesis had real problems with transparencies. Whenever transparencies were needed the developers would essentially fake it. That is my guess why they didn't change the life bars.

  • @Sinn0100
    @Sinn0100 Před 2 lety +2

    I disagree, they had the skill set to deliver a much better game on the Genesis and I'll tell you why. The Motorola 68K and Zilog Z-80 8-bit co-processor were inside so many arcade cabinets it was crazy. I believe it's a combination of time constraints, money, keeping the Snes better as it was a lesser package, and of course Sega wanting to sell Sega CDs. At the time the Sega CD port of Mortal Kombat was the closest to the arcade you could get.
