- This is Madeira, a street pigeon (Columba livia domestica) that I rescued as chick. I found her on 5th April 2015 and raised her; as a result she got really tame, so tame that she started to annoy the neighbours. Luckily she found a new home in a pigeonry where she can fly and play with many other pigeons. She is still very tame now, but not as tame as she was back then - she now prefers her pigeon friends over humans, just like it should be.

Madeira is so beautiful and loving. Pigeons get such a bad rap for being vermin when they're not. I've rescued a few sickly ones and given them some dignity in their final days. They are lovely birds. 🐦

I cry all the time when I watch this video...poor pigeons being treated so badly by humans. Wish I could help them all to have a happy peaceful life.
Thanks dear, even I feel the same , I wish I could feed all the stray pigeons, sparrows nd parrots around but unfortunately I can't, due to financial restrains, but I try to give my best with whatever I have. This world needs more humans like you.
Iv caught hundreds of pigens in my time with cotton or fishing line wrapped around their feet if you don't get it off it cuts there feet off, they take it back to their nest for nesting material, but you got to know what you're doing when catching them they keep away from you when they're injured so you got to tempt them in slowly you only get one go at them because they wont trust you again but at least you've saved their feet.

Actually a lot of humans do care about pigeons. These humans are "Columbophiles", they breed pigeons, care for them, they compete their pigeons in races, games and beauty contests. People who treated pigeons bad are usually normies or macho country gorillas that hunt pigeons.
@@mickmouse3513 I just helped 1 in bad condition. Already lost 1 to, the middle was deformed & had bad gangarine spread to wing & was already green. They can die. The thread was tied to all the feet. They had to eventually amputate the middle toe. Now hes got 2 toes on the one foot, 1 he cant feel & still has the slice mark. Maybe we could burn lose threads coming off clothes. These threads are always coming off. Any ideas?
Years ago me and my father found a pigeon who needed help and couldn’t fly. So we were looking after him on our balcony while he recover. One day he disappeared but was coming back always when there was a storm. ❤️
Is it still coming back?
After several months it stopped. I guess pigeons don’t remember long. :D

I found a pigeon under he bridge in one of my parking lots one night 6weeks ago. I asked him if he wanted to come home with me and he took a couple of steps towards me, so i scooped him up and brought him home. Ned was about 5weeks old when i found him, now going on 13weeks and thru the first molting and can fly short distances. I never in my life thought i'd get adopted by a bird. Pigeons have individually unique personalities, but are all hardwired with serious Attitudes! Ned is soooo Cool!!!

I rescued and raised one in March. It took about a month for him to finish growing up and getting strong and confident enough to take off on his own. He still drops in once in a while. There was another very nice healthy strong blue bar who'd been my friend for about 3 years. A very fine clean handsome looking alpha male. I call him "Buddy". He was and still is totally awesome. He crash landed in my yard one evening 3 months ago with a badly broken wing and a huge gaping hole where his right eye used to be. Somebody had kicked him in the side and flicked a cigarette into his eye. Words can not express the anger I have for anybody that would do such a cruel and cowardly thing to such a fine and beautiful animal. God is merciful to me and to the piece of shit who did this because I didn't see him do it or catch him in the act. I'm going to take care of Buddy for the rest of his life and keep him as comfortable as possible, but nothing riles me as much as cruelty to any kind of animal. It's about the lowest form of behavior humans are capable of.
OrigamiMaster30 All you really have to do is put out plenty of water, and pigeons will come from miles away (Las Vegas is really hot and dry and really chintzy with the water- no fountains and very few sprinklers) they'll line up and push each other out of the way to wash themselves. They'll wash until they're so clean they squeak. They have as much self respect as anything that lives, and they don't like being dirty and nasty any more than we do . If you live out here and you're a pigeon, water is more precious than gold.
Thats basically our story too found a baby pigeon hand feed him until he was old enough to eat on his own. Now 2 years later we still have a pigeon living with us like one of the family the bird goes everywhere we go.

Me and my husband found a baby pigeon two weeks ago, raise him and sunday we released him (I supose is a he, for his behaviour)...He was out all day, hanging around with the others and at dinner time.....SURPRISE!!! He came back!!! I've rescued a lot of pigeons, they come at the window to eat, but they are wild...

This evening we were came back from work, we let the window open, of course and he was here :>)
Is the second night he sleeps with us, I think he is feeling safe with us, because we love him so much....
Maybe oneday he will go away, live his life and abandon us... I don't mind, as long as he is happy :)
Cycle training is super....I know how to train pigeons but in the group of pigeons it cannot do like this....you feed up to baby...that's why it responds....

Love the video. Pigeons will become very tame if you rear them by hand.i used to race them. But just keep them as pets now my oldest is 15 years old and very tame. There very loyal and love there home.

It's just imprinting, this bird grow up with humans and started see in us "pigeons flock". Also peoples never hurt she, its just a game with birds mind.

omg this is so beautiful , i love to rescue pigeons that are in need
we rescued few of them, sadly one died but it was nothing i could do .. someone forced the poor bird to eat corns, that cut his beak and he wasnt able to breathe , eat or drink and sadly he died :( but in general its nice to help , sometimes it can take a week or a month and you can let the bird fly outside freely again when they are healed .. they remember who helped them and stay close by and visit often .. from my experience 😄 sorry for my bad english

Pidgeons are very smart and beautiful birds, that is why every time there is a Pidgeon(as I get speckled doves in my backyard a fair bit) that is in danger, I get them out to fly to freedom, doves have always been a symbol of hope & peace. I aim to prove ‘em right.
Oh I actually saw some of your videos before but didn´t associated it was Madeira *_* Now I see your story with her here. You done so well!!! great video, one of the best I have ever seen. Oh you put her to live along other pigeons in a loft, well done, there she will socialize. But don´t forget you must be present a lot in her life and visit her very often, pigeons bond for life and she has special love for you since you raised her. Wonderfull Madeira

My grandma had a dove like that. he was a runt and fell out of the nest, she saved him and took care of him for months untill he finally learnt to fly. He would come back every day for a meal. The other street birds would peck him and push him all the time so we had to scare them away so he could eat since he couldnt fend for himself.
One day after i fed him, he flew away and never came back. rip Gregor

This video made me almost cry. I raised a pigeon too this year and it's just amazing to see how those birds grow up. I loved my bird but unfortunately he's gone now and I don't know where he is or if he will come back next year. Take good care of your little baby and protect him/her.
