How MAPPA & UFOTABLE Changed Anime FOREVER

- If you grew up watching anime in the early 2000's like i did you probably remember the quality of animation from that time being well.. pretty basic, not saying it doesn't have its own nostalgic charms and place as the building blocks of anime history.
But with its limited movements and repetitive lipflaps it becomes really apparent that we have come a long way since then.
Especially in the last 5 years we have seen a meteoric rise in Quality within the anime industry, with great leaps in animation quality and masterful adaptations of some of our favorite stories.
There are two animation studios that are responsible for raising the level of the entire anime industry.
Those being none other than MAPPA STUDIOS and UFOTABLE.

I'm loving MAPPA and ufotable as current masters of their art, but we have to give points to Mad House and Wit Studio in the middle of animation growth, while A-1 Pictures is getting there, could go higher with bigger budget & time.
But MAPPA and ufotable take the crown in 'consistency' & 'high quality output'.

With all the projects mappa has coming out rn I gotta wonder what all the different series worth are added up too, jjk is officially the most popular manga ever (we all know dragon ball is the most popular anime ever) But mappa has like fucjin 7 or 8 shows that all gotta be added uo to be worth billions of dollars , dragon ball is worth like 25 billion , I'd think all the intellectual properties mappa is animating now gotta add uo to like 10 billion
Jjk is nowhere near the most popular manga ever. Jjk hasn't even surpassed 100 million in sales. Demon slayer currently holds the title for most volumes sold in a single year and one piece is the best selling manga of all time. Pokemon is the largest media franchise on the planet crushing all these names combined.
I wish you would have talked about the Fate Heaven's feel movies made by UFOTABLE, cause in my opinion that's the best project ufotable has worked on till date when it comes to animation

Yeah, but people don't really talk about those movies anymore and they all seem to forget about their existence.
the thing is ufotable takes mid shows and turns them into god like art while mappa takes dope manga and animates them to be slightly above mid
i agree because when demon slayer first released the most ciriticizm they got is the animation is to carrying sorry for bad english
I also think ufotable is really good at hiring people for their osts. The ost for demon slayer and fate are top notch. Mappa is pretty decent at this with attack on titan but the jjk ost is kinda lacking. Especially s2 when sukuna was doing what he does. I was expecting something like bleach hellverse cometh the hour but we got that I guess.

I still believe that MAPPA's only miss was the Honored One scene from Jujutsu Kaisen, but other than that, they keep dropping bangers left and right

@@HAWIE_ it was really the angle they use for Gojo. The way I interpreted Akutami's panel was that Gojo was indeed the Honored One, but the tilt made him somewhat unbalanced? As in, he's the most powerful entity on Earth, but his ego and arrogance are what hold him down still, if that makes sense to you
Jjk mfers after complaining about a scene because the character in the anime is not on the same degree of Verticality as in the manga. Then try to justify to it without the most bullshit takes one see's of twitter 🤓

Personally I feel like a tilted screen would be almost impossible to make look good in the anime so they made him straight instead

Sadly for most of the animators this there second time going through this. Most of them are ex madhouse employees and they were treated the same way there.
I feel like the Gojo thing with the honored one was just dumb. Through out the years that the anime has been airing we have received nothing less than QUALITY, but just because they decided to change the angles people went berserk. Personally, having read the manga and watched the anime, the adaptation was great, I really felt like Gojo was high in power and that he really thought of himself like a God which ain´t wrong considering he is one of the strongest sorcerers if not the strongest. The anime tried to point out how he was feeling in that exact moment with the lightings and the expressions he had, it felt like he really meant what he was saying. In the manga, on the other hand, I just saw him as someone that was too full of himself, which its also not wrong, he is a very cocky person, but the impact of the manga was just that, a teen boy that just found out he could regenerate. I can´t quite explain miself lol, but the delivery on the anime was just great.

MAPPA and UFOTABLE are like the Disney and Warner Bros from 2010-2019 but for anime. they constantly deliver high quality fiction and they almost always get it right. and they dont wait YEARS between each season or series anymore so that we always have something fire to watch. it reminds me of the good MCU days where each year we would get 3 or so good movies back to back, like civil war, thor ragnarok, homecoming and so on. but now they dont have that "vision" it feels like they lack a plan and no longer enjoy making the story of the mcu. while these anime studios are adapting insane stories that have so much love and care put into them. its clear why anime is getting more and more popular imo

Fate heaven's feel 2 was very good the fight between saber alter and berserker was top tier quality the animation was too damm good

Wit is most definitely on the same level but they have less employees than even ufotable and are unable to pump out shows as often.
If were talking about outliers, the Garden of sinners came out in 2007 with what i think is better animation than UBW

That "under pressure" is from Mappa itself. The animators are the ones who carry it. Mappa just chills with its money

I mean, I also love Ufotable, as well as the talent at mappa (not the company itself), but it's stuff like these ("tHeY cHaNhEd tHe mEdIuM oF aNiMaTiOn fOrEvEr!!!") that can create detractors from people who were previously neutral towards the topic.
Also, Mappa as a company is basically the worst in the industry as well as an example of how NOT to run a studio. I don't get how you could give so little attention to that bit and continue to praise the company like that.
Also, Kyoto animation is probably better than both studios, and has been since before either of them made names for themselves. But sure. Ignore them just because they've been on break recovering from the arson

Mappa is the just a crap company. JJK season 2 could have been the defintive SAKUGA show. An action show that would up the standard. It would have been on the levels of Mob Psycho. Yet the shitty condition of that sht company destroyed the show. Not that the show is bad (its far from it) but the reason this show evem looks this much good is because ofbthe sheer amount of talent that went behind it. That's the sad part tho. The talent was there.Amai, Miso, Vincent, Watanabe, Goso all were part of this project. All they needed was time. Sad

@@Coonishtoei animation is inconsistent but when they go of they just go off they are the biggest anime studio in Japan and have made a lot of peak animated series and movies. Just look at wano arc one piece the animation is out of the world and it's a weekly series not to mention dragon ball super broly is probably one of the best action animated anime movies of all time when they want to be the best they are the best no question
@@JustAsh001 super broly is a movie obviously it is going to have movie level budget also inconsistent anime is the main point it can never be said that mappa has bad animation then toei. Having 1 episode of great animation is easier than having consistently good animation like mappa has. I don't watch anime movies a lot often but i can tell you there are plenty more better animated action movies then what toei has made. Just look at heaven's feel trilogy. Ufotable and especially nozumu abe made the most insane effects animation alongside the actual action . Look at promare by studio trigger it's so fucking good you can't tell me dbs super broly is better than it.
@@Coonish well that's why I said toei animation is inconsistent when they are good they are just crazy good but when they aren't they are dragon ball super bad. However no one can deny that dragon ball super broly is one of the goats since it has actual movement and the whole movie had literally 30 minute of full top tier sakuga action I am not fan of effects animation yeah it's flashy but actually choreography is the best that's why I am not fan of demon slayer's animation so many effects on screen and sometimes they even hide the choreography as well that's why I prefer animation like gojo vs miguel, the shimazaki fight from mob, takamura vs Bryan hawk or sunghoo park's dynamic cuts etc

How both studios have fallen, Mappa animations turns in to plasticine due to rushed projects which looks worse than random anime shows. Ufotable being so sterilized and afraid to draw things in 2d without using any effects or uncanny cgi to carry the show, not to mention the adaption they took has horrible writing and the gags are unfunny as hell..
