  • A short recollection of an afternoon we spent having a quick look down a claim on New Olympic. Many years ago we found opal so exceedingly beautiful it was impossible to forget. Thanks to some periodic flooding we located a wash which had dislodged previously buried traces leading to a nice pocket that had been blown into the dirt by old timers explosives.
This opal has all been long sold.

Knowing how lights, and cameras don't always capture what an opal really looks like in person, I'd imagine those stones are frikken AMAZING!!! 😳

@@OpalholicsAnonymous Oh yeah, that is amazing, Olympic is a big basin of about 16 square km and the old field is legendary. I had Old timer friends who were there and the stories are just sickening and mind blowing at the same time haha. i think you're right in that most Olympic is white, light or crystal but it does have its patches of dark material too. Cheers again for watching mate!

@@pkgoldopalhunting I would also love to get out to LR and Grawin! Never seen any eastern fields except White Cliffs briefly, but have scratched around all the SA fields including most of the very remote and closed ones back in the day. Australia is bloody awesome.
