It adds to the story
Original timeline Kitana was a baby when Shao Kahn invaded Edenia in Sindel MK3 ending you see how Sindel look when she was alive and in Edenia when she got her memory back and you see her holding Kitana when she was a baby and Kitana started to question her life revolving Shao Kahn and Mileena was created to make sure Kitana stay in check cause Shao Kahn knew Kitana would eventually find out about her actual past.
Current timeline they made Kitana & Jade grow up as Shao Kahn's personal assassins excluding Mileena who came much later but Kitana was still a baby when Shao Kahn invaded and toom over Edenia.
If not mistaken ORIGINALLY Jade trained Kitana; which is why she's a Kitana clone in MK2 and was her personal body guard; like Sheeva was for Sindel. I thought; if I'm not mistaken, Kitana was 10,000 years old, Jade was 20,000 years old, & Sindel was 60,000 years old. Mileena is a clone; so is ROUGHLY 10,000 years old, but we don't know for certain when she was created. I'm assuming as a baby; when Kitana was and they grew up together. Now Kitana and Jade GREW up together, but I feel like Jade & Tanya should have. Jade would have been chosen to be Kitana's body guard over Tanya's family; making her Tanya feel slighted in the process and making her jealous of Jade. Because Jade represents Kitana's family; although Tanya's has high political affiliation; she feels betrayed as therefore betrays the Royal family and Edenia. After Sindel dies and is resurrected to take over Earth; Tanya sets her sights on an unguarded Edenia. When Shinnok and is unsuccessful she sides with Onaga. In the NEW time-line things are pretty much the same; except she forms a temporary alliance with Rain to get close to Mileena. I'm guessing that due to her jealousy of Jade being Kitana's body guard; instead of her; which brings dishonor to HER family, Tanya decides to become Mileena's body guard instead. However due to getting close and Mileena having feelings I think Tanya started falling for Mileena and now they've started a relationship/potential family together. I assume that although Tanya's motives were questionable at first, she NOW has feelings for Mileena and MAYBE Mileena can FINALLY get the happy ending she deserves from MK11.
Actually, in the very Sindel's mk3 ending you showed in the video, there is a pic of Sindel holding baby kitana. So that would explain how old she was when Edenia's take over took place.
Also, "regaining her Memory", is a figure of speech. Memory in every language doesn't just mean to recall old events, but also past knowledge (example: writing one's last memories, recollection of someone else life, reminiscence of ancient places, historical events).
So the quintessential canon Kitana backstory is the following:
She was barely born when Edenia was conquered 10.000 years ago, somehow both her parents died, she grew accostumed at having Shao Kahn as her sole father figure, she was trained as assassin, found out her origins during the Outworld tournament aka MK2.
Kitana always a victim of being manipulated, lied to and being controlled.
There's definitely a joke to be made about wanting to deep dive into Kitana but I'm just not gonna go there.
I'll take that joke. Would love to deep dive into Kitana.

I think Kitana was still a kid when Kahn attacked Outworld, thus raising her as his own, then when word got out of his true colors Kahn then used a holding spell erasing her memory and becoming an assassin unitl Liu freed her. I do love the references you put in from DotR and the 95 film! :) Although I think she knew who Mileena was, via Flesh Pits, before she was controlled thus erasing her memories. I stilll go with the 10k year thing.

To me, the baby (or at least small child) thing makes the most sense & while we're on the topic, I felt like Mileena being created as a clone from baby Kitana & growing up alongside her as her "twin sister" also made more sense.
I just mentioned this stuff on Twitter recently about how I wasn't really big on the whole Mileena being created out of the blue during the MK (2011) retelling of MK II.
As a baby, it would've most likely been tougher for Kitana to remember Edenian life & even her true parents, Queen Sindel & King Jerrod, so it would've been easier for Shao Kahn to manipulate her & such.
As for Shao Kahn mind controlling Kitana with magic, I feel that actually works, especially when the (not so menacing looking) Shao Kahn in MK Legacy said to Shang Tsung, "The Princess will learn to despise me once she knows the truth. Make one in her likeness that won't." & then Shang Tsung has that sinister smile on his face.
I'm not sure if Kitana was under mind control in MK Legacy, as she starts questioning things when she meets old man King Jerrod & as he's about to tell Kitana that he's her biological Father...
Mileena comes out of nowhere & whips her Sais at King Jerrod, quickly killing him, but being able to utter, "My...Daughter." before dying.
It's also mentioned in both the 1995 MK movie & in MK Legacy that Kitana's realm lost 10 consecutive Mortal Kombat tournaments & Shao Kahn & his evil forces were able to invade & lay waste to Kitana's home, turning it into a dark & ruined world.
Of course, Edenia was never mentioned in the 1995 movie, but just Outworld while in MK Legacy, we see & hear that Edenia lost 10 consecutive Mortal Kombat tournaments & Shao Kahn was able to invade.
I do wonder what became of Outworld after Shao Kahn was killed (& Shinnok was imprisoned) in MK: Annihilation, because I remember hearing that after Shao Kahn's defeat in MK3, Edenia was also able to split from Outworld (which is mentioned in MK Deception's Konquest).

I will say that the mind wipe/mind control idea makes sense if Shao Kahn's takeover happened to her while she was an adult - or old enough to remember the way life was before Shao Kahn came into the picture. If it happened while she was an infant, there's no need for it. It would be redundant.
We've seen different versions of it play out throughout Mortal Kombat's two different timelines and other media adaptations. They both have their strengths and weaknesses!
Also, Edenia was mentioned in Mortal Kombat Conquest (in the episode titled "The Essence") which is great because it's in the same continuity as the movies!
I like Kitana being an infant during Shao Kahn's take over Edenia. But still the idea of mind control is not out of place because if Kitana was brought up with Mileena it should raise some questions.

I like the idea that she had to experience the rise of Shao Kahn at a young age, though I feel that her being a young adult would make the story more compact, so to speak. Can you imagine how many years Kitana would have to have lived to reach adulthood?

Kitana was a baby when Shao Kahn invaded Edenia as you see Kitana was a baby shown in Sindel MK3 ending when she got her memories back and it was never stated Kitana was ever under mind control Mileena was created to keep tabs on Kitana like one of the comments said Shao Kahn knew one day Kitana will find out the truth and turn on him in the current timeline Kitana was a baby staying to her original story when Shao Kahn took over Edenia also Jade MK11 ending show both she and Kitana grew up together.
In the ORIGINAL time-line it was confirmed Kitana was under mind control during MK Shaolin Monks. However originally Sindel was the one who was mind controlled. Shaolin Monks flipped that concept, but is cannon to the ORIGINAL time-line.

In MK Defenders of the Realm, Kitana story was kinda odd. That show's screenplay wasn't precisely an award winning, but as for this matter, they really screwed it.
In DotR, Kitana is already an adult having a good time along with his father Jerod, when Shao Kahn suddenly appears and murder the king in front of her daughter. Sooo... apparently there was no MK Tournament for Edenia, or if there was, its ruler was unaware that they've lost and Shao Kahn would show up in any minute to claim what he has won. Also, Kitana is never shown to ever have been brainwashed and forced into fighting for him. She just started the show fighting against him. Finally, only in the series finale it is shown some interaction between her and Kahn, for the first time stating that they were somewhat related.
Definitely the worst Kitana of all.

I just see her history has having most of the same lore her age, Sindel dying but depending on the timeline somethings changed or retconned like Sindel's history and second timeline Kitana becoming Kahn despite how short-lived it may have been where as originally she was never Kahn.

I can see the sorcery/under a spell thing because Shao Khan is a masterful sorcerer comparable if not outright superior to the other grat sorcerers in the game(Shang Tsung and Quan Chi).
As for Kitana's age, I don't quite care for it as much as I see this is another thing the "Sindel was always evil" twist ruins: the "thousand years of longing" line would make sense, Kitana being good would take better as her mother would have given her a moral education, and it would give reasons for Sindel's death and Kitana missing her.
Young Kitana would have had her as the only good thing in her life growing up, adult Kitana would reminisce about how times were before Khan destroyed her life, ensorcelled Kitana would keep these memories in the dephts of her mind to not grow crazy like Mileena while killimg for Shao Khan... Everything would fit better if they hadn't pulled that "Sindel is now evil, and actually always was evil" bull.

Well, you have to consider the implications of that much time having passed. 10K years ago we were still figuring out agriculture, it's hard to imagine Outworld having such a robust civilization, similar to Earthrealm's middle ages, but without really advancing much over millennia. Shortening the spam of their civilization makes it more credible. But then again, Raiden is supposed to have wiped out Reptile's race over a million years ago, which implies Homo sapiens-looking races have been around for much longer than in real life (I mean, there's magical creatures and Cthulhu titans and stuff, so who knows what's the creation myth beyond a vague "the "one being" is the source of everything, then dragon-apes for some reason").
Even if time dilation is a thing, with Taven and Daegon and a god lineage full of realms, it just feels like everyone outside of Earthrealm is just really incompetent for having little to no progress in their way of living despite literally controlling the elements and whatnot. So I prefer a few thousand years instead of millions (and a young individual being 10k).
I also prefer Kitana to have been raised as an assassin (and then finding redemption) instead of just brainwashed somehow. It's just lazy to give people amnesia.

I had given this a lot of thought and it makes sense to me that shorter lifespans lead to more innovations. With longer lifespans lasting tens of thousands of years, people get "old" and stuck in their ways practically forever. Embracing new technology is just not likely to happen. New generations of people are more likely to adopt newer ways of doing things. But I also think that Edenians probably don't have children often. Overpopulation would be a huge problem for them if they did. So with all these factors, I imagine Edenians tend to try and mostly keep things the way they are, not producing many children and not introducing many changes of any kind. It is these circumstances, rather than differences in intelligence, that makes their society different from ours.
I also agree that "brainwashing" is lazy. I think in the NEW time-line they should have had RAIDEN/NOT SHAO KAHN tell Kitana the truth. Than Shao Kahn; angry she knows the truth he tried to conceal, puts her under mind control to keep her obedient. INSTEAD Shao Kahn hits "Quan Chi" levels of stupidity and just FLAT OUT tells Kitana her past; making him look like an incompetent dumbass in the process.🙄 I don't know what he was going for honestly. Same thing with Kronika. She HAD Lui Kang on her side to take out Raiden, but allows another version to exist to AID Raiden, until the revanant kills and uses his soul as a power boost, only to be fused with Raiden to become a hero again in order to stop Kronika and allow Shang Tsung to take over... or maybe Shang Tsung didn't; we don't know yet. Such awful, AWFUL writing.😖 They should have had Raiden tell Kitana what was going to happen changing the events of everything; not unlike Quan Chi telling other villians different things to change events. Raiden and Quan Chi BOTH alter the timelines and are ACTUALLY similar. GOOD writing ✍️ would show us this.

Also, this idea may sound unpopular but I'd like to see a timeline where Kitana and Mileena are raised by Shao Kahn and Sindel both. Maybe a better written Evil Sindel (compared to Aftermath) that isn't bewitched to go along with it. Kitana may look up to her mother differently too.

Small child. I like the idea of her and Mileena growing up together; only to find out through puberty that Mileena is a grotesque monster. After she learns her whole life was a lie she becomes good and things between her and Mileena become complicated. Also this kinda makes Mileena tragic instead of pure evil. In fact in her own twisted way I believe Mileena deep down loves Kitana. Kitana however is not as tolerant.
Or they could be actual SISTERS and actually love each other and reconcile instead of this forced boring rivalry that has carried on for far too damn long? If poster boy and the guy who’s brother he murdered can bury the hatchet TWICE, so to can family that grew up together.
Mileena isn’t a “grotesque monster”. She’s a PERSON. A PERSON who has been just as manipulated as Kitana has, only with no past or other life to connect to, except for Kitana herself (as well as their mutual sister Skarlet and Mileena’s construct brother Meat, but I digress)
Kitana being a racist prick towards Tarkatans or partial Tarkatans actively damages her character and makes her no more of a hero than that genocidal piece of shit Kotal. Especially to act that way towards her SISTER. Shao Kahn isn’t truly family to either them, but they ARE family to each other, and they should act like it.

However only Kitana can make the RIGHT decision of accepting Mileena as her family and even Skarlet and Meat. However we WANT a character flaw for Kitana to overcome and GROW as a character and not be a "Mary-Sue" Kitana needs to reconcile with Mileena in the way Hanzo did with Kui-Liang. Just thought of something the other day is liu kang a American citizen I know early Malibu and the movie presented this but why else would he go by liu kang very western Asian name
He was born in China but in the movie & comics they showed him as having moved to the US. He kept his given name (never Anglicized it), which was fairly common for Chinese immigrants at the time. Interestingly enough, it was important to the writers that Liu Kang spoke with an American accent - that was in the notes for the script for The Journey Begins.
@@tabmok99 so in the new timeline what is the deal because if he is still only 24 then when did he become westernized so to speak because even in the new timeline he seems like he still uses the accent of someone who lived in America but doesn’t seem to have had that separation from the Shaolin or from Kung Lao like how Lao was gone pre mk2 doing his Kung fu reenactment before coming home to surprise his BFF only to find everyone dead also I always assumed Kung Lao was the older of the two by a year or so like 25 or 26 in mk2
I agree Kung Lao seems older. The idea that Liu Kang was a renegade monk was shown by the fact that he grew out his hair (while all the monks still in the monastery all bald). So indeed there was supposed to be some kind of separation that was hinted at. Some of the details they don't really get into (and the details may change anyway as new writing staff come in). It seems to me that he retains more of his Chinese accent in MK11, probably to distinguish him more from some of the other characters in the game.
Here's my take on Kitana:
1. Kitana is the Princess of Edenia.
2. Shao Kahn merged Edenia into OutWorld which he ruled over after killing Onaga.
3. Obviously, Onaga is NOT Kitana's grandpa.
This means Its only if she stays as Shao Kahn's daughter does she stays as the princess of outworld. Otherwise she is the princess of Edenia, NOT OUTWORLD! Outworld is a realm of mutants and monsters, a lawless backwater realm for shao kahn to grow his army while Edenia is a Realm Of Paradise.
So, it make sense for her to join the heroes to defeat Shao Kahn and free her realm rather then be a Betrayer and an Usurper of Outworld like MK11.
I choose this version because it gives us more lore to grow the universe. Like, after MK3 Shao Kahn is back in his arena and watching people wack each other for his entertainment and to grow his power for another invasion while WE get wacky and dreadful character that have joined Shao kahn's force over the years that rival Shokan, Tarkatans and Centaurs in brutality, strength and power.
Outworld has good people in it to, most prominently Li Mei and Bo’ Rai Cho

@@SuperSky9 That’s really dumb and I don’t like that shit at all. If massively contradicts all lore we’ve ever seen of Outworld. I’m going to assume that it comes from MK11 due to that massive contradiction, and I would strongly suggest you just ignore all the wild bullshit MK11 claims since almost none of it is of any value.
And yes, Li Mei, Bo’ Rai Cho, and other good people in Outworld ARE canon.
