- Join us for a day in the life in Orlando, FL as we prepare for Hurricane Ian and do some shopping at Super Target, Home Depot and Publix, and discuss what we're doing to prepare for a possible impact during this last week of September 2022. As a lifelong Floridian, I talk about my hurricane preparedness strategy - C.I.P., and we also have a little fun checking out the amazing Halloween decor and prop selections out now at Super Target (a massive Target shopping store) with their huge Hide & Eek collection, and also do some grocery shopping for hurricane supplies and see what is already depleted, and see their Halloween costume selection from Disney to Marvel, superheros, Nightmare Before Christmas and so much more, and we check out Home Depots incredible animatronics and outdoor Halloween decor selection, their 2022 Halloween line is awesome, and check out Publix to see how water and groceries are looking. Of course we come home with a few new Halloween friends and grab some Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks on the way while running errands! (oh, and we also see some Christmas decor already making its way into stores!). Surviving through a hurricane sounds terrifying. I'm lucky I live in the heartland of America and all we have to worry about is snow and occasionally tornadoes. A hurricane sounds scary and they're huge too. A lot bigger than a tornado.

Thank you for not posting clickbait like most of the other vloggers! I unsubscribed from 3 today who constantly post clickbait and got so tired of it. You always keep us up to date in a fun, enjoyable way without the drama the others do.
After Katrina hit here in Gulfport Mississippi we invested into a full home generator!!!! No more power loss
So smart, my parents have one in Miami too bc we would always lose power for every storm! Currently I live in an apartment so it’s not feasible but once we get a house, that will be an investment for sure!

The teal pumpkins were started by a mom whose kids had severe food allergies. They couldn't participate in trick or treating because of their allergies. She wanted a way for her kids to be able to trick or treat like other kids so she started the Teal Pumpkin Project. It means that any house with a teal pumpkin on display will provide allergy free treats for kids with allergies. Pretty great idea!

And remember, fill your tub and buckets and you can flush a toilet by filling the tank with that water. After the power goes down water will not come out of faucets.

Hi Jackie! I used to live in Florida and I know what it's like weathering through a major storm like this. I live in North Carolina now and Ian is expected to go over the state as a tropical storm. I admire your, well, enthusiasm, in preparing for the storm and for Halloween! Wishing you and Sam all the best for protection.
Target trips are the best even if its hurrican prepping.. i wouldnt know much about that though. You and Sam stay safe

I miss Publix SO MUCH! Their pastelitos aren't too shabby. I miss the variety and the Jamaican food items.

I think folks underestimate the power of snacks and sweets during a storm. Sugars and salts calm nerves.
Honestly this is so true! Cookies, carbs, sweets, they make you feel better and kind of more “normal,” kind of less focused on being scared. They really do help!
I do all of it except the ⛽'cause I can no longer drive. Here in the Southwest we get tsunamis...water flowing from the mountains and the notorious lack of drains. I fill up cat litter jugs with water. Our apartments are old and sometimes there's no water.

I was born and raised on the ocean and lived through many hurricanes. I then moved to the Midwest, tornado alley, and lived through a massive tornado! I would actually take a hurricane over a tornado any day because you often get several days warning and if you leave the shore area you should be safe. Tornadoes on the other hand will move anywhere across land and you can feel like it’s coming to get you, lol! Everyone in the effected area please be safe!

Please stay safe, guys!! Hurricanes seem terrifying and the damage I've seen on TV from past hurricanes just breaks my heart. I'm used to tornadoes up here in the Midwest, but never a hurricane.

We don't get a lot of hurricanes in NJ but I remember how scary Sandy was, we lost power for a week. Trees down everywhere. Stay safe Jackie and Sam!

The shelves look like that, too, when a snow storm is coming
Similar to snowstorm prep. Definitely store water in pitcher or whatever if u have infants. To mic formulas
C.I.P. is great advice for any emergent situation, I like it! We were visiting the area a few years back and got WALLOPED by hurricane Irma, so I found myself nodding frantically at a bunch of these tips and tricks and wishing that we had taken some notes beforehand! Having a full tank of gas is definitely a good call. Appreciate your calm heads and positive energy during a time that can be scary for recent transplants and visiting tourists. 🙂 We know you true-blue Floridians are battle-hardened after a number of hurricanes, but stay safe all the same! P.S. Loving the Target 'Hide and Eek' options, but Home Depot CRUSHED the animatronic and yard display game this year!
I'm supposed to be flying home from Orlando this Saturday. What are the odds my flights won't be cancelled.
I think by Saturday all will be fine, hopefully! 🙏🏼 but maybe be mentally prepared in case of delays.

Your information is very helpful and informative. It also helps people that may have family and friends that are living in Florida. I live in PA and we have had to hurricanes it us. Irene and Sandy hit us and people in PA panic buying. I learn since we get snow storms to always have a generator and gas cans, 72 emergency kits, emergency food kits and water, portable batteries chargers, box milk and can food. Good idea to a non electric can opener and small hot plates that a generator can run.
Very smart of you!!! During Irma I was in south Florida and had to evacuate and it was a whole lot crazier. We learn tho each experience like this and can be better prepared for next time!

Hurricane Andrew was the worst of the worst. Had to go to another school for a year bc our house was completely destroyed. Lost everything. It’s what made me the way I am now where I don’t get too attached to material possessions bc I know they could blow away at any time. 🥹

I know it sounds weird but , it was a fun video. No hurricane coming but there is a 40 pack of water in my back seat. Was surprised in Wal-Mart yesterday to see it has become Christmas in the lawn and garden area. Keep your head down and we'll see you out in the world when it's over.

As a fan of Halloween, I would be prioritizing decorations over essentials. 😆 I worked through Storm Sandy which knocked out power to my home for 3 days. It wasn’t fun at all especially walking to work in a rain coat and a lantern as storm knocked out the power. I can’t imagine doing this annually as Florida seems to handle. Stay safe!

Thankfully for Orlando (but not for those south of Orlando), the storm took a huge turn to the east and stayed mostly south of Orlando. Lots of flooding and downed trees today but it’s much less severe than it could have been. How did u fare thro it? Got power? The thing is today to stay off the roads bc of flooding and downed trees and stuff. So another day hunkered down haha.
