    The Invective sounds like what a 6505 would sound like with a High Cut that producers and engineers will use 100% percent of the time they hear that high end fizz. Really does focus your tone.
    It is much more compressed and smooth sounding compared to the 6505’s looseness. Both sound great but I know by the time I record both and process them the only difference will be the smoothness vs looser 6505.
    Invective wins this one but they both are insanely great imo.

    Nice! The EVH 5150 III should be a bit closer to the invective, Misha did a good job of getting the Peavey to sound tighter again

    The Peavey Invective reminds me more of the Peavey Ultra Plus amp. The basic features are very much the same. Came out about the same time the 5150 came out. In my opinion, it blew away the 5150 because it had more versatility. I still have my Ultra Plus and it is still a great sounding amp. Check it out sometime.

      the XXX was basically the ultra + successor, and after that came the 3120 that was also barely changed. all of those do very similar things, and especially the XXX is quite easy to find for not that much money.

    I really enjoyed the differences in the Clean tones. The dirty tones were similar enough that it probably wouldn't make a difference which Amp you used. I did prefer the Invective's Clean tones, but context would determine which Amp was appropriate to the music. They both sounded good.

      Maybe you don’t know but companies like americanmusical and zzounds will let you setup a payment plan with no interest at checkout, you make the first payment and they ship your gear to you right away. Then you pay it off every month or faster if you want. But you don’t need the money upfront anymore!

    The Invective was very impressive everything ever done by using outboard gear ie. pedals and processors has been designed right into the amp. Part of the charm of the 5150 is its rough edges. After all it's Rock & Roll. The other 'charmer' is at the moment the Invective is $2000 USD amp and the 6505 is HALF that at $1000 USD.

  • @suavonman9539
    @suavonman9539 Před 2 lety +2

    I love 5150/6505. It’s true, this amp sounds littlel more open, rude, but the low end and the definition in the mix are brutal. The invective remains me my Diezel Herbet, more compressed tone, more control, may be more definition in chords with frist string specially, but sound a littlel HI Fi. I love this tone in fact may be the feeling playing it, for me would be better, besutyful processed metsl tone, but if I hace to choose with my ears…5150 sound more aggressive for me and in the mix I think it’s a better option. Obviuosly you hace less options, but with Line6 Helix in 4CM you can use a prev with clean tone instead the clean chanel of the 6505. Both are beasts. I would like to be owner of an original 5150…some day may be. Changing the main theme, I have to say your vídeos are the best I have ever seen. Very very useful, the production is really incredible, the music you create is very nice and always under service of the video, clean, crucnh, lead parts to ensure your audience could have an idea of all tones the amp of device can offer. It’s really hard work but useful for them who can’t have the possibility to try all these incredible toys 😅. The production of image and video are also incredible. It’s easy to see what are you doing and undertand what it is sounding. Congratulations friend. Keep rocking and good luck. Best regards friends 🤗

    Hi John, the video is great as always… one slight problem tho mate is that the sound of the full mixes sounds like it’s hitting the limiter hard and so the sound pumps a little. This is by no means any sort of criticism as I love the content you produce.

    I managed to match my 5150 Block Letter exactly to an invective - getting the Invective master volumes in the correct position is the hardest and most critical part to match. From memory, they need to be around 6 on the Invective to sound like the 5150 around 3.
    The master affects the 5150 tone so much, it’s the same on the Invective but more complicated because there are more of them that need to be set correctly to match. I’m sure that’s what’s causing the difference here.
    Great video!

    Used to own a 6505 and currently own an invective. If you don’t care about a clean tone go the 6505, if not in experience the 6505 gets way louder way quicker, the invective can be noisy with the boost switch on red channel past 4 (tone is still insane here though). The 6505 you will be changing tubes much more often, invective hasn’t failed me yet. Invective needs the foot switch to use the master boost

  • @jeisonbedoya7027
    @jeisonbedoya7027 Před 4 měsíci

    According to my ear, I can feel that the Invective sounds warmer in its clean tone, while the 6505 sounds a little more "dirty" so to speak, and that "dirty" sound is the one I like but it feels more in The 6505 MH, compared to the distortions, sound very similar, maybe my audio devices make them feel that way, maybe for someone else they will both sound different, but the 6505 has something about its distortion that is more characteristic and calls me more Attention, if I would choose one of these two, without a doubt for distortion I would lean towards the 6505, but if it is for clean tone the invective

  • @louderthangod
    @louderthangod Před 2 lety +1

    The invective sounds so tight that it sounds choked and cold. That has it’s place but if I’m going with a tube amp I want it more raw and unruly. If I want ultra tight I’d go with a modeler with a solid state power amp. I like amps that make me feel like I have to fight it till I’m locked in like riding a wave.

  • @JimijaymesProductions
    @JimijaymesProductions Před 2 lety +1

    I think I prefer the slightly more open aggressive mids of the 6505 for Crunch and Lead but it is so close especially in the mix, whereas the 6505 cleans sound like records I know but objectively aren't very good. I think for an all in one stage amp the Invective is better with the added features but for studio use where you would probably use a nicer clean amp anyway I like the 6505.

    Thing is, in the mix, I didn't noticed any diff in Lead tone, which almost always happens so we sould play more and search tone less. I like the 6505 lead more, but the features, detail of control, confort of having separate clean and rhythm and lead tones, pre post and a common master, etc... make the Invective a nice option, if they were in the same price range, which I doubt. Indep. of the price, one has to think what they will use it for. To play alone and enjoy its sound, I'd go for 6505. To play with a band, if I didn't care about money, I'd go for the invective.

    Metal tone opinion. Somewhere in the middle of the bassy 6505 tone and the middy Invective would be best to me. Not enough umpf on the Invective while too much mud on the bassy 6505. I would choose an EQ'd 6505 to clean up the mud for metal tones.

    I'll stick to my 5150's.
    The Invective has a lot of features, but one might decide they prefer external ones than those included, making things like the boost and noisegate moot...
    Sound-wise, the 5150's have a slight edge for distortion. As far as the clean sounds, if you use them, there are ways to get a great tone out of the Peavey, but it takes external fidgeting and extra gear.
    I guess it all depends on if you think the 2x in price is worth it to you, or you want to spend it on other stuff. Live, the extra could be useful, depending on your situation. I'd pick the the OG as a studio amp hands down if you don't need all the flexibility and the distorted tone is critical.

    So you have to turn the 6505's gain waaayyy down to get a somewhat decent clean sound. The Invective will kick your teeth out with the clean channel without distorting at all.
    Plus - you can kick the overdrive on with the clean channel, and you can get a killer blues tone - pretty much like an overdriven Fender.
    Finally, I use the Lead channel for the rhythm with the drive between 8-9 o'clock. Gets a very Marshall'esque type sound, and I use the crunch channel for leads with gain at about 2 o'clock. One of the best lead sounds I've ever heard - fat city...
    I need all of those sounds, too. No way I could get by with a 6505...

I use it with a synergy power amp I think there’s something like six preamp tubes and four big old power tubes used to use a matrix gt1000 for a power amp but I blew it because I’m dumb lol I was using a friends cabana tried hooking it up steep hooking it up stereo but it wasn’t a stereo cab which is a quick 1000 dollar mistake lol. But yea ams yea I know the fm3 is only like half the processing power as the rack mount and you don’t get to use a bunch of heads on one sound chain ( we ll call it that ). But I’m not that kind of guitar player that needs a bunch of sounds. Most of your tone is going to come from your fingers once you have a decent sound

    interesting. I prefer the clean on 6505 by miles. It carries all frequencies, it's more melodic and readable. If I want fender clean I would use EQ in front. Invective's clean is not fenderish, not anything really. The same with Crunch. 6505 is clearer, better string separation, more melodic, and maybe a bit more dynamic in comparison with muffled invective.
