Hello. Has that really happened to you? I use a magnetic cable with several of my things and everything works great for me. It's even a kind of miracle for me. Maybe your cables are one of the first generations, I use the 7-pin connector and it works great.
@@raulprado5620 for small stuff with low wattages you'll probably be fine but you definitely don't want to charge a steam deck which goes up to 45 watts with a magnetic charger.
@s3 dGhost They do not use usb c but a charger designed to run in spec by Apple. The usb c spec doesn't include magnetic chargers and hence they are more likely to be dangerous for the device. (They shouldn't be dangerous to people due to the low voltage)
Yea there is. The charging port is on top. What a weird designed. The Switch designed there’s in the right spot. That’s the difference between American and Japanese engineers.
@@alexmendez3681 You’re wrong. Let’s say you wanted to play while you were charging your device, the Switch’s charging position would be uncomfortable to play on due to it being on the bottom, so you can’t set it down on a table (unless you are using a dock). Meanwhile, you can play the Steam Deck comfortably on a table or in your hands comfortably without changing your positioning.
@@inoxisane No, you're wrong. This portable device was designed to be held. While having the port below you can charge it comfortably. So now we have a difference between of being able to place it down on the table versus a weakening port that is jiggled. @@alexmendez3681 1. That's incorrect, ports don't wear out from gravity. Rather, they wear out from dust and use. 2. It's a USB-C 3 charger, it won't be jiggled unless you force it to. 3. The deck isn't that huge actually. Sure, it may look giant (2x the thickness of the Switch and 1 inch wider), but it feels nicely in the hands without straining your hands. In fact, it's very light regardless of how it looks. 4. Steam Deck 2 might add dual USB-C 3 ports from the top and bottom (like what the ONEXPLAYER has). Case in point, you're wrong.
For this one, it’s understandable. You can get a 64gb deck, put 1TB of storage in it via SSD. Then put a big SD card in it, and you’d have fast storage with above 1TB of storage in a Deck without coming close to the cost of a 512gb Deck directly from Valve.
You need an SSD if you want to even remotely think about putting Windows on your Deck. And even with a 1TB+ SD Card, SSD read speeds are way faster, but more importantly: the Deck is going to install A LOT of shit to the C drive, more than you will want it to, because that is where all the shaders, cache, and savedata is stored for you games by default and AFAIK you have to use Shader Cache Killer/Mover to deal with these files after install (as there is no way to make SteamOS switch the directory for these files) which you’d never have to do if you had even a 256GB SDD in there.
@@jaxsonharper9091 right, so don’t install Windows on your Steam Deck. Use the built-in OS, which was designed specifically to work with it and is already great and is unlikely to cause issues with an SD card, which btw, works fine. If you want a portable Windows device, just get a laptop??
This magnetic charger will break really fast. You should get some extra plugs for it. I had a similar one for my phone and those plugs always fell apart.
Yeah, magnetic charge things kinda suck lol. It's all fun and games until you use one to charge your phone for the night and it's freakin' empty in the morning.
Simple solution for that gripe would be USB-C on the top *and* bottom of the device, both OTG capable. Some other handheld I've seen before had it, but can't remember what it was.

People with the switch: WHY WOULD THEY PUT THE CHARGEING PORT ON THE BOTTOM 😭 People with the steam deck: WHY DID THEY PUT THE CHARGING PORT ON THE TOP 😭
Your magnetic charging solution introduces a new problem though. If you don't put the SteamDeck into a case that at least sits flush with that magnetic nub then it will tend to get caught on things, that nub will also tend to be the first thing that hits the ground if it ever gets dropped or knocked down, which will break the nub and possibly even the USB port. As some one that used to use such a magnetic charger on their phone, I can tell you that when those magnetic nubs inevitably break they are impossible to remove without needle-nose pliers and a paperclip.
