MD knows hes a winner. Hes so unbelievably quiet and calm. Such a lovely boy.
This colt is a testimonial to his exceptional upbringing as a home-grown winner. He has to be the quietest, sanest, most broke-to-ride 3 yo TB racehorse colt I have ever seen. Heck, he puts most fit 3 year old stallions of ANY horse breed to shame as far as calmness and manners. He walked quietly out to the track before his workout with zero shenanigans. He changed his lead and pace without argument. Then he walked nonchalantly back to the barn without a handler, including walking calmly through a puddle, across the pavement, and into the shed row with his rider still on him, with dropped stirrups and loose rein, with no threat of decapitation or whacked knees and elbows. He barely broke a sweat during his workout, and I know it’s not particularly cool weather there. He’s wearing a plain old copper D-ring snaffle today, and wore a fat eggbutt in the Derby with no extra straps or bands or hardware. I’ve never seen him argue with a rider or threaten a groom, though he gets mouthy during bathtime and when peppermints are hidden which even old geezers will do. He isn’t headshy for the bath sponge and he even lets the groom get under his tail and wash his crotch off with no fear and clenching. I’ve never seen him even consider kicking or striking. I love to see the pets and the praise! It’s clear that this colt has always known love and kindness. ❤️
Can’t tell for sure but the bit looks to be a French bit. Connected in the middle.

Nope if you pause and zoom in around 6:19 it’s just an ordinary pinchless copper-mouthed D-ring.
Maybe handmade though bc although the bars are fat (for a soft-mouthed horse), the joint is smaller than the cheap mass produced kind. But it’s not a french-link.

That’s retired jockey Robbie Alvarado riding him. Robbie told Gary Stevens in January MD was going to win the Derby.

Why does he need to “try for prestige?” He just won the Oaks and the Derby in the same week. Seems like he’s already got it and wants to keep it by paying attention to the horse he’s clearly known since it was born.
