For one, you can’t know everything about someone, something, or somewhere. That fact well taken, Memphis Tennessee is not an exception. There’s a lot that you can still learn about this iconic city. In this video, we’ll discuss 15 things you didn’t know about Memphis Tennessee.     1. Founding of the City
    Did you know that Memphis was founded in 1819 by the trio of investors known as John Overton, Andrew Jackson, and James Winchester? Prior to its official founding, a succession of Native Americans occupied the Bluffs of Memphis. Among these were traders and forts from the Chickasaw nation. The investors who founded it conceived an idea of a large city with a plan featuring a regular grid of streets that would be interrupted by four town squares, namely Exchange, Market, Court, and Auction. Did you know all that before now? You likely knew that Memphis Tennessee is situated on the edge of the Mississippi River’s widest part.
    2. Inspired by an Egyptian City
    Looking through a map of the U.S., you’d find many cities named after other cities from different countries. Athens, Florence, Dublin, and of course our Memphis are a few examples. Did you know that Memphis was named after a historical city? Well, for your information, the name Memphis belonged to the former capital of Egypt. The ancient city of Memphis in Egypt which has been abandoned since the 7th century, having lost favor after the Roman Empire invasion, inspired the name of this city in Tennessee. One day, we’ll deal with this story.
    3. Music City
    One fact many don’t know about Memphis is its role as one of the world’s most important musical cities. The name of the city is mentioned in many more songs than any other city in the country and even in the world. According to Billboard magazine, it has been featured in over 400 songs. Twenty-four of the first 100 inductees into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, came from areas around Memphis.
    4. Sun Studios
    Relating the fact just stated is the role of Sun Studios. It is one of the world’s most famous recording studios. It is now a major tourist attraction located just outside of downtown Memphis at 706 Union Avenue. During the 1950s, for just 3.98 dollars, Sun Studios would allow anyone to stop in and record a track. It was the birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll as the first of the music genre was first recorded there.
    5. King of Rock ‘n’ Roll
    In 1953, a teenager who was driving from Mississippi through Memphis desired to make a recording for his mom. As he recorded a track at the Sun Studio, Sam Phillips wasn’t impressed. But his impressed secretary prompted Phillips to call the teen back so that he could record more. The teen was the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, and that was the very first track recorded by Elvis Presley. Today, how many names are bigger than Elvis Presley in the history of music, especially Rock ‘n’ Roll? But there’s more to Elvis and Memphis.
