    Great video. I've modified my process a bit over the past few years and found that if I use too strong of a magnet to separate them I wind up losing quite a few. I prefer to use a weak refrigerator type magnet instead of neodymium as even the good ones can often have nickel on the contact pads causing them to stick to the strong magnet. After I soak in HCl I like to roast them to make sure I drive off 100% of the chlorine as this prevents any silver chloride from forming and makes the filtering simpler. I find I get a better yield this way. But as far as a first attempt and experiment I like what you did here. Thanks.

    • @BackyardScrapping
      @BackyardScrapping  Před 2 lety

      Not really sure about that, you would be adding allot of lead, tin, and nickel just to get a tiny bit of silver. Not worth it for me, mainly because of the nickel, which is not really a good thing to deal with in solution. I'm really one for trying to get all I can out of my scrap, but sometimes the risks just are not worth the payoff, if you know what I mean.

  • @Alondro77
    @Alondro77 Před 3 lety +1

    Yeah, nickel chloride is pretty toxic. I'm thinking of a way to quickly reduce my wastes to oxides. It's why I'm thinking of the acetate-peroxide method. The solutions with the base metals could be dried and then roasted. Acetate will burn off, leaving metal oxides.

    • @BackyardScrapping
      @BackyardScrapping  Před 11 měsíci

      I don't remember what acids I was testing, with without going back and watching the video, but either way I have done these several times and several different ways, and the end has always been the same, a bit of silver & thats about it. Most of my tests have been on 100 gram batches so there my be a touch of PM's that I am not detecting. I have seen kilo batches yield a tiny bit of PGM's but not worth the effort as far as I am concerned. If they were like the "Old Ones" 100 grams should yield about 1.5 to 2.5 grams of palladium and at least 10 grams of silver, I get less then a gram of silver every time & no positives on any thing else. And lets not forget that the XRF comes up the same. I'm not saying there is nothing in them, but time, acids, and other processing materials is far greater then what your gonna get out of them. But hey, to each his own. Thanks for watching!!

    • @BackyardScrapping
      @BackyardScrapping  Před 4 lety +1

      He goes after stuff I would have no idea how to do, rare earths and things like that I guess. To be honest I really don't know, he has never been one to talk to much about what he gets from things. For many years I saved my black sand from prospecting for him, not all from every where, he just wanted the stuff from vain mtn nc. I was very good at getting most all the gold out of my concentrates, so what he was getting from it I have again no idea, and he never said. I can say that as long as it was from that area he would pay $5 a pound for the black sand, which for the most part was more then the gold I was getting from it, so there was something in there that he wanted! Since that time I have just saved my "left overs" for him, and once or twice a year he shows up and picks it up. Again what he gets from it, he's not big on sharing. He is far smarter then I, because as far as I'm concerned what I give him is of no value, at least to me anyway. 🙄 well maybe not?? As far as danger goes, I'm pretty much at my limit, I don't care to go any further then I have, and I really don't even like the idea of working with PGM's and have no desire to go any further than that. Thanks for your question, hope this answered it.

      @BackyardScrapping  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes I have, & yep its true. Problem is, finding the ones with the gold. Over time many manufactures have found ways not to use gold, but back in the day gold was used allot, as was silver and palladium, the latter two being far less expensive back then. Many many parts that contain no gold now days had gold in them back then, so it is possible to find gold where you would not expect too. Its kind of like the old prospectors used to say,

    • @BackyardScrapping
      @BackyardScrapping  Před 4 lety

      I've seen that done both ways, I.E. crushed and not crushed with the results being about the same. From what I have read and seen, if you have the time, the ceramics will break down on their own, crushing just speeds up the process, and as I had plenty of time I just did um as they were to see what would happen. In the end crushing or not crushing didn't seem to matter in my experiment anyway, as there is nothing left in the beaker now except white powder, the solids, the mlcc's are gone?? If you watch the entire series you will see that not only my test proves this, but as of right now I have also sent six (6) batches of 100 grams each to be tested VIA xrf analyzer and all have come back exactly the same. All show only 1% silver and no other precious metals. I will give you this, its possible that my test was flawed, but I strongly doubt that the xrf test was wrong six times. By all means, if you still want to take the time to collect them that is totally up to you.

      lol, I have had many people say I did this or that wrong, or that they get so much of this or that out of them, but after "several" tests on them and even testing more then once with xrf, I have gotten nothing even close to worth the time of harvesting them, a bit of silver here or there, and no pallidum. What I really think is happening out there is people have a bit of non magnetics mixed in and that is where the PM's are coming from. I know there is a bit of silver in the magnetics, but I am really beginning to believe its from the solder. The last batch I tested yielded 1/2 gram of silver out of 100 grams of mlcc's. I know back in the day when silver was $3.65 and ounce, I would have gotten 6 to 10 grams out 100 grams, even the good ones were not worth going after back then LOL!! Take care & thanks for watching!!

      @@layarsentuh7665 I do not offer a course, nor do I know anyone who does. Best bet is to just search youtube and watch as many videos as you can about it. Processing PGM's is fairly dangerous, so take care if you plan on doing this!

    I left you a message in Part II regarding your results (no spoiler here...) but you didn't mention the tantalum in your video or final results I don't think? I don't know a ton about it but if you have time here's a link to 2 yr old info on it...
    agmetalminer.com/2018/01/25/tantalum-lithium-markets-set-grow-over-next-four-years/
    and a video regarding the tantalum capacitors that's way older (2015)

      Thanks for the link, but I didn't mention tantalum because the video was about MLCC's and has nothing to do with tantalum. I think you are getting confused about what and which video you are watching and commenting on. I have never even made a video about tantalum, as I said in an earlier reply I think you need to watch both these videos again to see exactly what I said in them and what was going on in them.

    Please stop using disposable gloves when working with nitric. both latex and neoprene will burst into flames faster than you can rip them off your hands, major safety tip.

      I'm using Nertile, also not using fuming nitric, only 68% above 70% I know they are only rated a 1 out of 4. For the most part I try to only use them when I'm dealing with silver nitrate. Thanks for the tip though.

      Have you tested it, I know just concentrated nitric will do it too. It stains your skin orange for a week
