    interesting that’s the first time you’ve been tested Lawrence, the french cyclist Geminani who ride in the tour in the 50s and 60s said that doping controls were a cancer of the sport and doping was just a means of restoring the body’s equilibrium after gruelling tour stages an interesting take on the subject maybe a bit outdated but pretty interesting times change and so do attitudes I guess.

  • @Mike-cz8oy
    @Mike-cz8oy Před 4 lety +1

    Good content. It’s great that cyclists are regularly drugs tested. It does make you question what going on in the UK and in other sports. For example, if Liverpool FC where a provcycling team, the drug testers would be all other them and the public would be doubting the legitimacy of their results. It does make me wonder, are Liverpool the US Postal team of football?

    • @lkb3rd
      @lkb3rd Před 4 lety +2

      If they drug tested US sports like American football like they test cycling, I think the league would shut down due to all of the bans.
      But with that said, Lance always used to point out how he was the most tested rider of all, and it was true at the time he was. He probably holds the record for the most TDF doping samples taken due to all his time in the yellow jersey. They tested a ton back then too. I don't want to be a cynic, but I think it's worth pointing out.

    • @Mike-cz8oy
      @Mike-cz8oy Před 4 lety

      Len, you’re not a cynic. Tyler Hamilton wrote in his book about seeing several footballers in the waiting room whilst waiting for his EPO treatment in Madrid. It is naive to think the rich sports like American football, basketball, football and Tennis aren’t using drugs. The less cash rich sports like Cycling, swimming and athletics seem to take the headlines because they are more rigorous, frequent and transparent in testing their of athletes. Even junior cyclists training in southern Spain or rain soaked Belgium are tested as Lawrence’s vlog points out. I wonder how many pro footballers have been tested whilst relaxing by the pool at their luxury sea view villas in Dubai?😀 opps that’s me being cynical now.

      Dont think the Man Utd player actually failed a drug test. He got 3 strikes and a ban for missing drug tests, which isn’t the same thing. It was a Rio Ferdinand, if I remember correctly.

  • @mindciller
    @mindciller Před 4 lety +1

    If cycling was ever to get a real Union or sanctioning body this weird type of testing wouldn't even exist. But cycling is poor comparative to other major sports, and the riders get paid hardly anything comparing also. Is it a great career? For a handful that are ok with living like gypsy, and just riding around all day for not a lot of money
