The "Gal A Bubble" artist says he was inspired by a number of reggae artists like Bob Marley, Bounty Killer, Sizzla and Vybz Kartel. When it comes to lyricism in reggae, Konshens says the conversation never overshadows his genre because mainstream listeners aren't understanding what they're saying. Konshens nails it, Kartel's lyricism and prolificness is unmatched, however jamaican lyricism does not sell internationally, so Kartel is more famous for his gal tunes where he speak slower in a way that international anglophone audiences can understand. But with all respect to Konshens, I would have mentioned Aidonia and Bramma after Vybz Kartel.

Depends on what you consider a lyricist, for me buju banton is the best concious reggae singer with songs like destiny or dont cry, dancehall on the other hand is not so much known for the lyrics. Reggae is more lyrical than dancehall, look at kartel, his best lyrics are in his reggae songs like, poor peoples land, life we living, or where is the love.
His creative use of words, wordplay and general creativity in lyrics whether the content is substantial or not is probably what Konshens is talking about.
Pius Kamau I love kartel, but I dont think his wordplay in songs like "happy pum pum" differ a lot from kalado´s "your pum pum bring life". Like I said before, I think you can appreciate his creativity, wordplay and lyricism in his most serious songs, but I respect your opinion.
