  • Some families have labels that are visible. How do they do that?
    The best examples are a Refrigerator, Hot Water heater, Dishwasher, Washer and Dryer, Fire Extinguisher Cabinet, etc.
    This Revit Tip show how to embed TEXT or a LABEL into your family.

    Thank you once again for this fantastic video. Revit in other languages (Spanish or French -versions that I've used), thankfully only translates the display of commands. All the keyboard shortcuts are the same regardless the language. Not like Autocad that in addition to the display changes all the Keyboard shortcuts depending on your language.

    Hi, this is great content. Thank you very much for sharing it. But please, can you explain why u are not making only one text parameter for labeling purpose? Instead u are nesting label and then u connect it with parameter inside of family. Is there reason for that?

    • @miketaylor8211

      gaminaccess: I totally agree with you that all most families need is a TEXT symbol embedded that is static, or locked. But I went ahead and showed how to make a LABEL that has the ability to be changed. Some people like flexibility. :)

      Riley: I understand your question... I did make a video you may want to review… it’s about getting a Room Tag to show anything you want about the room. It’s about the same thing as you are asking. ;). But yours differs because it’s a label… I've used labels in families... and yet, I totally advise you to use a tag... they have soooo much more control!

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  Před 3 lety

      I think that Revit text has an insertion point and will scale and change when you change the scale of a drawing... but I don't think it jumps around away from it's insertion point. I guess I don't fully understand the question.

    I have a doubt on if i add the label to a face-hosted generic model, i couldnt see the on plan view (project plan view), only see it on the reference level which means the hosted face. I cannot add the symbol in different view except the ref vies (the icon turns grey when i switch to other view). may i learn from you how to adjust the label visibility in term of views (like plan, section, or ceiling plan...)?

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  Před 2 lety

      I have found that the labels work in Plan views... but when I go to sections and elevations.. they are not visible. So, until Autodesk fixes this.. I guess we have to use 'text' in these other views. It stinks, but that's all we have for now.

    Hi Mike, I hope you see this since this video has been out for a while, I really appreciate this explanation of nested labels and I have a question: Once the label and family (in my case a title block family) is loaded into the project, will it be possible to then link that label to a shared parameter or a project information field? I am having no success with that but it will be extremely useful for future projects if it works. It works fine if it's a label added directly to that title block family, however making a label as a generic annotation then plugging that into a title block, then loading that title block into a project doesn't pull values from project information. Thank you so much in advance!

    how to make a Movable Label Annotation in a Detail Item Family

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  Před 2 lety +1

      The only want to make a 'movable' label is to have two or more labels in the family and use visibility parameter (on/off) to turn the one ON that you want to see. So it's technically not really 'moving', but Revit does let you have annotation in different places. =)

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  Před 2 lety +1

      One of the best things about Revit is that the text will always flex and change to be the size we tell it to be. Example: 1/8" text will be 1/8" no matter what scale we print. But for you... you want the text to stay the same. This is difficult and can only be done with an IMAGE. So insert a small image of a text... and it will flex with the scale. (I think this will work.. but I don't typically do this).

  • @spaldingtougiasarchitects1280

    Is it possible to add a parameter to the label to allow it to rotate 90 degrees? If I insert a dishwasher facing a different direction I want the label to stay readable, not upside down or sideways. Thanks

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  Před 3 lety +1

      The text often stays ‘readable’ if you check the little ‘stay readable ‘ button in the family... but not always. It’s kinda random. Anyway, to fix it, I add two labels.. one horizontal and one vertical... and just use a visibility on/off parameter to turn one off. :)
      Try that.

Example is a Wall Sconce with an LT-31 Label that populates based off of the Type Mark Parameter of the light.
