For what it's worth, Sietsema never reveals his face, and he and Musto party ways with The Voice at the same time. It's not impossible that they're one and the same!
I forwarded this video to Michael. We'll see what he has to say about it.

i feel joe's shanghai is overrated. i've tried it and, nope. but then again, i've had really real soup dumplings. i know what the good stuff is supposed to taste like!

It’s ok, but I agree that it definitely coasts on it’s reputation as the place that originally popularized xiaolongbao in NYC. I liked their original Flushing location better, but that closed during the pandemic unfortunately.
It’s still the standard to which I compare all other xiaolongbao to though, because theirs were the first ones I ever had.

I’m so glad you mentioned Noodle Village! It’s my family’s favorite spot and it always feels good walking past the long lines for Hop Kee and Wo Hop. & their soup dumplings are 🔥

I am surprised House of Joy was not mentioned. The dim sum there are much better than Ping’s and the dinner menu also have delicious choices. Very reasonable prices.

Noodletown is my go to ever since it reopened in September, been there at least twice a week for food since I work in the area. Place is always packed at night, but I never have to wait long for a seat, the turnover is usually really quick. The staff there are great too, especially now that I’m a regular and they know me.
As for celebrity sightings, Sarah Jessica Parker was eating at one of the neighboring tables when I was there a couple months ago. Wouldn’t let me take a selfie though, which is understandable. Didn’t even notice it was her until a waiter asked for a photo and I took a longer look at who he was asking. I also missed the fact that Matthew Broderick was sitting right next to her lmao.

Loved the video. Left NYC 30+ years ago, coming back for a visit. Was going to go to my old stalwart from 30 years ago Wo Hop but you guys have given me so many new options. Going to have to spend more than 1 day in Chinatown. Tremendous video.

For like 90% of the population, Wo Hop is probably the number one choice and recommendation. In the real world, most non Asian people are not foodies and have almost no interest in trying unfamiliar Asian dishes. The general Tso chicken, fried rice and egg rolls is pretty much the default items the majority of what non Asians want. It sounds boring but that’s the reality

Only places I don't agree with are Joe's (Yeah their XLB are alright but nothing else is good and there's better soup dumplings without the 30 minute tourist line) and Wo Hop (Big/Da Wong is just better)

Mmm Chipilo’s!!! Part of my family hails from nearby Chipilo and yes there’s a lot of Italians in Mexico! Two of the best cuisines come together! Also…Mexicali in northern Mexico is very Chinese and the local food is Chinese/Cantonese food! So delicious!

my favorite dish at pings is dragon whiskers i love tripe with ginger , jing fong used to do scallops in shell with custard now it doesnt . oriental garden stopped it years ago . first tried dim sum in the 90s when empire szechuan had a place on 97 and broadway had tripe with ginger scallops in shell with custard and grape leaf sticky rice . place was so good chinese people came and packed it on weekends . moved to 100 and bwy and no dim sum then no crowds . upper west side hasnt had a great dim sum place since now have to go to chinatown in man queens or brooklyn

I used to like Green Garden Village and ordered weekly-ish (pre-2020). But I went back again this year for takeout and noticed that quantity had shrunk :/ by a good 20% :( It makes price & quality / quantity ratio increase quite a bit.
And seriously, West New Malaysia is better/more authentic than Curry House, based on sampled benchmarked dishes - sambal eggplants, beef brisket curry, and Asam Laksa
My additions to the list - Hay Hay for best quality/price ratio BBQ meat in Chinatown; NB Wing Wong on Bowery for best old school Cantonese, IMHO.
