You know what I find really bad? The most useless professions get paid the most. And essential workers, the jobs that are crucial to a functioning society get paid for sht. Why? Haven’t we learned anything from the pandemic? It’s back to business as usual. Grrrr.

That's bc the bottom 90% are pawns for the top to use duhhhh. If ppl are gullible enough to believe " you want to cap salaries?" and not realize that your salary is capped so that the top can become Billionaires, then why won't the top do it. Humanity will cycle/repeat when the bottom gets too hungry and systems collapse but this species is too dumb to learn nonviolently from the past. Ppl are taught to follow not to think for a reason, and what we are experiencing is just that.

End credits ... of which there are..have to guess a number, because unviewable with tons of END CARDS! if you're going to use music, and as a documentary channel you already have in-line credits for personalities... so it is possible to CREDIT THE MUSIC. You folks mean well, but should be back to film PRODUCTION school. Filming is easy.. producing ... requires much more.

Grew up in a struggling family in Africa, had good test results , got a scholarship to developed country.
Was miserable and got depression for the first time and didn't even know what that was.
Went back to my poor country.
Life is a hustle here but am soooooo fulfilled. Here i have my faith, my friends, my noisy neighbors, my ever present family, the streets are vibrant, we have laughters and conversations in public transport etc.....
Never felt depressed again even though i have less money. Each time they propose a 3 month training program abroad am scared , so scared.

I live in New York and noticed it. It’s miserable because it’s just a grind. No one talks to anyone or cares. I’m thinking of leaving. Just need the funds to do that.

I left the US for good in 2002 and moved to a so-called "3rd world country". People back home thought I was nuts. They still do- they can't wrap their heads around someone moving to a country with high inflation and a low GPD. But I saw the difference in how people lived here and how happy they are, and how miserable and jaded everyone was back home, and the decision was easy. No regrets.

Rich countries rarely mean rich citizens.
When you country tells you it increased its GDP by .7%, it means a few people increased their wealth by a few percent. Odds are, the lower and middle class got poorer and the public services had their budget slashed.
Not really. By that process the Western world would have 10 rich people and everyone would live in caves after 3 hundred years of economic growth since the industrial revolution. Instead of which the average man in the street had a standard of living that a medieval king would envy (warm, dry, foreign holidays, computers, electronic entertainment, communications that would impress Captain Kirk, cars that can whisk us a hundred miles between meals)!
We are SOOOOO lucky to have been born in the rich west in the 20th/21st Century.... not least because life expectancy in rich countries is twice that in the poorest - and in the final analysis being alive is THE greatest perk in the world..... just ask Louis Armstrong :)

GDP is basically how much money a country makes. But it doesn't tell you how a country uses that money.
Try being poor in a poor country and you'll see what real poverty is.

That is true to a great extent. But we also buy a lot of things not to impress others, but to feel good about being able to possess them. For instance, one might buy an iPhone not to impress others, but to feel good about being able to own one. Marketing has convinced us that our worth is decided by what we own.

There's a great disparity between the wealthy and poor. Our basic needs still aren't affordable. Like healthy food. Mental health care. A home.
True and the disparity is getting worse, not better. Strangely I read today that the COVID pandemic has resulted in more billionaires than before the pandemic. As the average household gets poorer and struggles in the current worsening economic situation globally and rising cost of living/inflation, the top 10% who control 76% of the world's wealth, are getting more wealthier by the day. Rapidly rising energy cost and interest rates are a good thing for that 10%, while everyone else sees the value of their savings being erroded by inflation and their income spending power reduced.
They purposely keep this wealth disparity, enough poor people to work for less.
Sometimes, it seems (if you go down that road) like some sort of master plan to keep the masses dumb, sick and desperate so that the evils at the top can continue to sell their mediocre products, w/entertainment keeping us appeased to a certain extent. I mean, to a certain extent it seems to be exactly the plan - whether intentionally (doubtful ) or they just realized "hey this is working out pretty good for us, let's just carry on" I dunno. Fact, there's enough for everyone to live a dignified healthy and educated life. Why isn't it working?

Agreed, the role of advisors can only be overlooked, but not denied. I remember in early 2020, during covid-outbreak, my portfolio worth around 300k took a slight fall, apparently due to the pandemic crash, at once I consulted an advisor in order to avoid panic-selling. As of today, my account has yielded big fat yields, and leverages on 7-figure, only cos I delegate my excesses right.

I’ve been living in Africa for the last 2 years ever since moving from the UK and I’m so shocked at how mentally healthy people here seem to be in comparison to the UK. I think the determining factor is the community spirit that exists here. Everyone helps each other. There’s no choice. However in the UK, people are polite, but it’s every man for himself. Individualism makes you feel like you don’t matter. Don’t get me wrong there are problems, but I think that there are way more coping mechanisms here that actually work than in the UK.

And in Sth Africa people are well skilled and paid very little but they make the most of that when they leave and work in another country wish we could upskill people, they are happier doing something they know how to do. like self employment in any field..
I'm from the U.S. and I can't help but think being a 1st world country creates a toxic mentality and culture. Everyone is mentally ill here somehow. I live and work in isolation and travel so it's like I'm excluded somehow.

One of the things that grab people from poor country when we go to rich countries are the big beautiful roads and the pretty buildings and nice towns but behind all of that there is nothing but super sadness

I've just retired recently and I must say I found this video informative and great to review. These psychological concepts are much more useful for individuals attempting to avoid mistakes than I realized when I was first introduced to them. This is probably why Warren Buffett talks so much about temperament being crucial to his investing success.
Developing a solid financial portfolio is more difficult, therefore I suggest you seek expert assistance. The ideas you receive after that can be tailored to your long-term goals and financial desires.
Personally, I would say have a mentor. Not sure where you will get an experience one, but if your knowledge of the market is limited, it seems like a good bet.
Same thought when I read the comments from people. as if it's that easy! You can't give what you don't have. My depression and anxiety started when I got started on social media, smartphones, and internet in general. They’ve been much more of a distraction than utilization. it feels like my life was hijacked in autopilot mode. I was never able to feel my present self again.
Try utilizing them for their benefits if you're in a position/willingness to do so; social events, community groups, etc. Keeping in touch with friends who don't endlessly spam clout & memes.

I am a little dismayed at how “anonymous” YT comments are. ..
The problem is that most of those supposedly rich people are up to their eyeballs in debt to look rich, while the poor people are seeing their ability to just have a place to live slide further away and are up to their eyeballs in debt just trying to survive and live a life style they are told they are supposed to have (middle class). On top of that wages have stagnated against inflation for near 50 years. There's only a small group of people who are actually rich and they've got most of the money, income, assets and the least amount of debt. We are an entire civilization of indentured servants.

I am a believer of the thought that there are such things like "unnecessary wealth". I grew up in a poor neighbourhood, but even though we were okay financially, we believed in a more-ascetic manner. My mother was happy that I didn't ask much, and back then I was surprised, specifically because I didn't think I "needed" to.
And while I can afford myself many things, I just don't, usually, because I don't see a need in them. My birthday was yesterday, saw no need to celebrate. I was happy nonetheless.
I am glad for the fact that I was unintentionally raised to enjoy the many things I already have.
I think that's an important rule when it comes to wealth.
Once your basic needs are met. And you're not struggling to get them:
Everything becomes more about emotional qualities. Rather than getting more money.

Same. It's nice to celebrate birthdays, christmass etc. But there is no need for expensive material gifts. What matters is spending time with the people we love.
Hear, hear! Well put, good sir! Well put!! I am of a similar mind set. Nowadays anyway.. Because, I bought a lot of stuff before that I probably will never get around to use or utilize in any way. And thus, most of them will probably remain in their respective boxes until I simply give them away, sell them or just die before I get around to it. Well I'm not forty yet so, a bit of time left to get my act together I guess. So, to summarize.. I have an inclination to start collecting things. But it's not because I feel more rich or more complete as a person, doing so. No, it's actually the other way around. The more things I own and bare the the responsibility for, the more stressed and anxious I feel.
So, why then, does a part of my brain want to get more things? Well.. it's about the experience that these things potentially can offer. Or the idea and imagination that builds a scenario, where there is an experience to be had. And this just pops up in my head all the time. And sometimes that wish to have that experience, become quite compulsive to say the least. Because the idea becomes more and more glorified and fantastic the more I ponder about it. That's also why I force myself to almost never ever buy anything on impulse. And instead, just either make a note or take a photo of whatever it was that caught my eye. And then simply always sleep on it for a few days to a week or two. And if I still desire that thing, no matter what it is, and more importantly, rationally, actually can justify buying it for a proper practical need, and one that isn't just momentarily. Then I might head back to that store. Obviously I fall for the occasional temptation like everyone else. I'm very far from perfect to be honest in both this and other regards. But let's leave it at that.. hehe!
Ps. Bottom line of happiness and fullfilment in life is the following, according to me.. Life is about stimulating your senses, and most importantly your most basic, rudimentary, core senses. The ones that the so called "system one" governs inside of your head, if I understand that bit correctly. And you do this by having experiences of a wide variety, all throughout your life. Some, need more variety. Some, need less. Some need more challenging and riskier experiences, some play it more safe, and are the most comfortable there. But no matter what type of person you are. You need to challenge yourself. You need to overcome challenges and obstacles in your everyday life. I.e. problems. But only saying problems, or calling them problems, puts a mostly negative ring to it. And that's not what I'm trying to describe here. Also.. the problems/challenges/obstacles, should not be of the kind and severity that keeps you up at night. Nor give you sever anxiety. But they should not be completely harmless and totally mundane either. I.e. if you can just ignore them, they don't count and you must find yourself some new ones. Now this might sound very strange to most of you perhaps. And it's certainly not the way, of the post-modern consumer world of the west. But, I think you'll find it to be quite true, if you just give it some thought.
And then there's the love derived from true friendships. And no, I'm not talking about the love of the sexual/relationship kind. That can be absolutely amazing and wonderful too, no doubt! But it's not what you should rely on to carry yourself through life. And if you think about it.. It's actually very rare indeed, that it does. And I mean for anyone, since relationships on average has a failure rate of something like.. I don't know, 90-95%?? I.e. if we're talking about the chance that it will last for the rest of your life. And.. those relationships doesn't really become important, until you reach an age of twenty years or more anyway. And usually later than that on average.
So. All in all.. It's all about finding those true friends. Make sure you realize the value that they represent. And having the right amount of fulfilling and rich experiences with them, as well as plenty, all by yourself! And then possessions and things in general, will only matter as much as they ought to, in order to enable those experiences. And thus.. if those things, those items, no longer fulfill their purpose. Well.. then you shouldn't have a very hard time leaving them behind either..
Take care everybody! And do have a think about what you just read. And never stop contemplating and ponder..

I know this wasn’t the point of the documentary but one thing I took away from this is a lot of therapists don’t actually care about their patients, you’re literally just the path to the highest income they can achieve.
This is an incredible show.
I could empathize with the African American woman whose husband died a year before and they’d been together for fourteen years. She tried to stay stoic and strong but her love for him never stopped and you could see it in her face. Heartbreaking.

I live in Singapore, a so called "rich" country but i can only say the country is rich, but the people are poor. The people are asset rich, but cash poor. Not only that, the super competitiveness & capitalism spoils human bonding & values. What remains is a sad, competitive, dog eat dog culture with no compassion, humanity and love. It is truly sad to live in Singapore

I'm from Indonesia where family values and human bonding are still embraced. I've always been fascinated every time I visit Singapore, and always wanted to comeback. A modern city state, clean, and well ordered. But to think to live there, I don't think so.
Everything is so relaxed here.
@@albaihaqi4871 In my case its opposite. I stay in Mumbai but when I visit rural part of my country I say to my self I belong here but we don't have much land for farming or to stay in rural India. But I agree metro politant Cities are tough to survive.
My wife took the brave step to migrate from her country and stay with me in Singapore, she marvel how everything is way better then her home country. I replied in one sentence, stay here for a few years and we will revisit that question again

I had a friend who essentially lives most of his life in the desert, and only really met people like me when going to study in the civil world, as his country subsidises him. What shocked me was how free he considered himself, not so much blissful ignorance but... problems he encountered were within his direct realm of influence, need to pass exams, need to cook for the boys, need to save to play Red Dead 2, things like that. He's fairly connected but not really, because anything that doesn't directly require him is ignored by him. Just shut off your screens for half the day, no scrolling, no news. Live what is directly in front of you. It's fine to like the luxury of the modern world, but once it defined my desires and personality, it killed my soul.
"...where everyone gets a fair shot..." We live in an every man for himself, rugged individualism, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, and social Darwinist society. Everyone may get a shot but it may not be fair. In such a society you must learn to build your own fire, tend it, and be very careful who you let come near it to warm themselves.

Very true. But it can also be said that if you find the true source of happiness which comes from within, not externally, then you're freed from the transient happiness and suffering cycle which is part of the human existence condition reality. Having a deep and lasting inner peace and sense of contentment in just being is true wealth which can't be measured, bought or sold. Material happiness and riches are only transient and most people are locked into a cycle of pursuing things and money for their sense of well-being and happiness...even though its only transient and results in further suffering. Our consumer-driven society is a key factor in why people are trapped in the cycle of looking externally for happiness and a sense of well-being, instead of looking within themselves.
Problem is that shelter, healthcare and quality food is difficult to access and keep for extended periods of time. It's precarious state of jobs that makes us miserable. You can lose everything in 5 minutes. And you never get it back.
I realized a long time ago, that if people stop relying on corporations for resources and start learning and going back to being self sufficient many of our economic problems would go away. Stop feeling the need to invest in every kind of entertainment and indulging in unneccessary eating and drinking; our lives would be dramatically better.
We as societies have bought into the lie that industrialization and capitalism inforcing more is better are the way to go. We've actually sacrificed our sanity, health and futures for the promise of something most have never obtained and probably never will. Cancer itself is a direct result of industrialization without a moral conscience.
We live in a world were everything we make and do effects us because everything is connected. All resources are limited. There isn't enough for only certain groups to live greedily with no conscience about the affect it causes on everyone and everything.
Our societies have been behaving like spoiled greedy children, that never ends well.

I nannied a few times for a lady who lived in something similar to a gated community. Huge house. No footpaths or parks nearby. I think she hired nannies more for company than helping with the kids. I thought she seemed like a really lonely person. Her husband was away all the time for business and she had relocated from another country so she hadn't built up a support network yet or made any new friends. I didn't envy her lifestyle at all. The whole neighbourhood felt like a "dead zone." I would never live in a gated community even if you paid me to do it and I don't understand the appeal at all. Gratitude makes us wealthy, indeed. Happiness is a priceless choice. There is no inequality in gratitude and the treasures it brings.
I grew up in a relatively wealthy family and by definition their friends were well heeled also. We all had fancy boats onn the marina, nice houses etc I can honestly say they were all the most soul less boring, rude tossers I've ever spent time with. I live a normal working life with no frills and have had the delight of living amongst diverse, interesting people who appreciate the value of everything they own. We are all struggling now but the wealthy live with constant fear of being poorer. What a way to live

Poland 🇵🇱 here. Most people are very similar financial level. No big differences. Ppl stick together, families stick together for the most part. That's our wealth. Nobody needs a fancy huge house to feel important. To compare the average Polish accommodation it really would be a condo, 2 or 3 or 4 bedroom. Not many have single houses. So really most of us live in what is called in the USA projects. Nobody complains. We still would do bday parties or neighbours gatherings in those appartmemt we have....I think we are happier here than most western ppl with the villa kinda house and a brand new ride.

here in the philippines, its very similar living condition thus loneliness is not a phenomenon. we are not an individualistic culture but more of a collectivist one. meaning, theres no requisite to separate when you come of age. its a choice, if you want to though.

I worked with few polish people who recently came back to Poland after working in UK for many years and they came back because pay there is no longer good enough. These crazy high rents in the western countries are main reason why skilled workers don't want to go there anymore.
My husband and I married young. In our twenties we worked very hard and lived below our means to pay off our student loans. We had other couples our age make fun of the cars we drove and our small house. Now in our mid-thirties we own our business free and clear and still have zero debt other than our mortgage, which we throw a little extra on most months. We are very fortunate & have worked hard. Living below your means and avoiding debt as much as possible has enabled us to save for retirement. It can be done but it's not easy.
Good on you. I just turned 50. I drive the same SUV for nearly 20 years now. Only have one credit card and my cell is old. TVs are old , my house was build in 1970 it’s old but redone now. Waterfront acreage on the west coast of Vancouver Island 🏝️ it’s paradise. I was a single mom working more than 2 jobs to get into the markets. Now my children will never afford property. If a government over regulates, forces developers to do a bunch of costly environmental impact studies, waits forever to approve thereby increasing your cost via taxes on land you can't use until slow government approves, all of which contributes to higher cost. The internet is making everyone miserable. Knowing everything everybody is doing is misery in its own right. The complete exposure to each other had stripped us of our complete sanity and happiness. Never in history was it a time where humans knew what other humans were doing a million miles away. It’s not normal or mentally healthy.
This didn't tell me anything new. I'm from UK and very little was shown in the documentary about our wealth divide which has become a vast chasm. 22 years ago the first foodbank opened......we now have over 2,500, many of which feed working poor.

IT actually does though. Studies show that people are definitely happier and more satisfied the more they earn. Myself for example. Growing up in trailer house where the carpets had long been pulled up and you got splinters on your feet from the plywood to own a nice house on my own land and not worrying at all if an unexpected $2500 vet bill or car repair comes up is night and day. Knowing I don't have to stress at all about food or bills makes my life much happier.

We are told how we have been given great opportunities. By not using them, we are wasting the good start we have in life.

This is definitely not just a UK USA thing. This is every major industrialized country and developing countries too. This is my favorite Endevr documentary. I loved the personalities and stories of all the individuals interviewed. It would behoove most Americans to listen to people like Noam Chomsky. It's hard to know what to do about class warfare, because of the immense power of the elites and how they avoid punishment for crimes, but there are brave souls out there who devote their lives to bringing awareness to the issue of income inequality.
Regardless of how many billionaires and millionaires a country has there should be a floor or a safety net so that every citizen of that country has basic shelter, food, and health care.

The problem is rich countries have too many regulations. For example I watched a documentary and someone say they are homeless, while living in trailer truck. The same truck that can access electricity and water for free from the park. While an Indian living in a glorified shoe box in a shanty town in Mumbai with no water and electricity are never considered 'homeless' by themselves and others simply because they have a place to stay.
The loss of human connection and the pressure to have more and more stuff or you're a failure is to me the main reason people are unhappy in the west. I'm the happiest when im dancing (salsa) as you get that human connection and you're in the moment not worrying about tomorrow or the past.

That part at the end about the public always forgetting is very true. 10 years after the recession, I noticed that everyone was back to living in decadence on credit. I was on a coach going through Manchester in 2018 and every other car on the road was a brand new Mercedes. I've recently had someone say to me "I guess you don't like progress", but is it really progress when people are getting all this stuff with money they don't actually have? One thing's for certain, this coming recession is going to bite them harder than the one back in 2008. I'm just glad I've never even desired having a credit card. My bank must have sent me a good 30 letters over the past decade telling me about their credit cards and why I should get one. They've all gone straight in the bin.

This. Working in the bank and seeing the state of finances of the public made me realise the majority of poverty is self-inflicted. Gambling, cigs, booze, the tech and fashion treadmill. There is genuine poverty, then there is lack of discipline to live within ones means and not striving for a better future but live for today.
Credit cards are not inherently bad, if they are not relied upon to fund one’s life.
However, many have credit cards when they should not, and it is insidious how certain credit card companies try to push more credit on those already in heaps of debt.
I support delayed gratification and practice it myself. Sometimes it does not payout the way one expects or at all. Therefore, I do understand why some don’t bother.
Luck plays a big role in the outcomes of many things. In life, I believe you need to try and hope for the best.
korean american here. quality of life in Seoul is so much better than where i currently live - Seattle. It's actually not even comparable.
Although the companies in my portfolio are solid, last year was a loss. In my first year of investing, I experienced a 35% decline in the March/April sell-off and a further 17% decline in the most recent sell-off. I earn my money via hard work, thus investing makes me anxious and depressed. I'm uncertain if I should sell everything and wait.
Sell not, I say. Avoid attempting to time the bottom by selling merely for the sake of selling. That is gambling with taxes added on top of it to slap you in the face. Keep it real and keep thinking long term!

If you invested off of some idiot's tip, then that is probably why you are so nervous. If you bought the stock of a company that's been around forever that is a business that is still relevant in today's world, then you should feel fine. Buy low and sell high. You need to watch good videos from informed investors like Warren Buffett. Get the book The Intelligent Investor. The market has crashed and historically has always rebounded to higher than it was before.
Look up dollar cost averaging. It's the only way to invest just about.

There’s a huge of influence of what you see online and how your living at the moment. Discontent and disappointed on how your living. There is also this push on the idea that your not working hard enough. The reality is your just living in wrong place, if you live far from the city, you’ll find more peace, happiness and content.
There are few jobs outside of the city. People drive into the city.
I you live out the country in Thailand or Brazil somewhere you probably wouldn't miss the states.
I feel this comment. I stopped going on most social media and talking to some family members because all I saw and all I was told was about my cousins touring Europe. I'm actually pretty happy with where I am, but that jealousy and discontent that I can afford to travel like that is rough. Especially when my cousins aren't the ones paying.

It's a totally sad and pathetic life to want to have "stuff" and more "stuff", I simply want to vomit at having a big lonely house to live in, being around snooty stuck-up neighbors, and pretending that I am better than others. It really sounds all sickening, and frankly, I don't have to dress nice everyday to feel good about myself. Thank God that I don't envy anyone who walks this earth. Less Stuff = More Joy.

People need to realise that it's time to move to a resource-based economy/society. Everyone should have the right to free healthy living, free education, food, health care, and a healthy, well sized home.
No one should be on the streets, no one should be suffering. This would get rid of the majority of childhood trauma and crime in general. This would be the beginning of evoking true evolution in humanity.
Happiness comes from being grateful for the people you have in your life and knowing when enough stuff is enough. Rich or poor we all need our connections to others and our basic needs met to be happy. Too little or too much of anything and things get out of balance.

I have seen it many times. Powerful people making huge costly mistakes and then rewarding themselves for solving the problems they created.
All they have to do is tax you to realize their schemes.
This whole thing was heartbreaking and at times nauseating. I went with a neighbor to take their kids to a local park and the kids immediately started playing with whomever was there. Didn't matter skin color, gender, whatever, they just played together and that is what I remember growing up at the playground as well.
The family taking about wanting their kids to be safe and go to a good school contribute unknowingly to a systemic problem where school funding is tied to property values and thereby still racially/ socioeconomically segregated. Not to mention the drain most suburbs place on city resources over time due to maintenance cost and low income per square foot due to big box stores and strip malls with huge parking footprints.
I am lucky to live in a fairly walkable neighborhood. Yes, occasionally I see someone nearby who is unhoused (gasp the horror) and people disparage the area for this but I would take this house over any suburban wasteland anyday. I also have two sibling living with me rent free so they can save and in return they help with some basic stuff and the doggos. Sometimes there are bumps in the road but I can't emphasize how much better my life is with them here as opposed to an empty house and I feel so lucky that I am able to afford to have them live with me and not worry about paying the mortgage.
My hope is that people will gradually realize the benefits of living in a mixed use housing, walkable neighborhood and more options become available for people to buy their homes such as co-ops and perhaps non-shady rent-to-own options.

A huge flaw in consumerism and individualism is that there is never a time where enough is enough. We may have all the food, water, shelter and community that we need but because of the incessive demand by western society to keep improving upon our lives, any faltering moment we aren't actively improving ourselves is a quote unquote, "Waste of time".

If you are secure financially, learn to be content and just live with what you have. Yes, it’s fun to get new things but it’s not special if you are ALWAYS getting the latest and greatest. Just be content. And if you aren’t, I am right there with you. I am a single mom (not by choice, I lost my husband in 2020) and I am on a single income with two kids. I have moved into an apartment on my in-laws property bc property rates are too high in the area but I can’t move away to a cheaper area bc I need family to help me and really, there isn’t a cheaper area.

Born and raised in Seattle USA. 42years there. People are getting more miserable every day. Retired a year ago and now travelling poorer countries and the difference is shocking, how happy people in these countries are to have what they have, I think some of the positivity is rubbing off on me, I'm honestly not looking forward to returning home.

Developed country for the middle class - work 40+ hours a week just to survive, everything is expensive, it's sometimes cheaper to buy a new item than to hire someone to repair it, isolated society - nobody knows who their neighbors are anymore and it's hard to make genuine connections, failing health care system - just consider yourself good as dead if you get a serious health condition
I believe it is not so much that countries are rich that produce these problems, but it is the incredible gap between the rich and the middle class and poor. At one time we were taught keep your head down, work hard and you will succeed. Well that doesn't happen any more, we work hard and make them rich. I see the world becoming more like The Hunger Games, 2% do fine and the rest of us are just commodities to be used and abused.
Some people are so poor all they have is money.

I lived next door to a "brown" person for 20 years who was a good neighbor. I fled to a gated community because of rising crime and democrat led police defunding -- not "brown" people as this racist program suggests.
My new neighbor behind gates is a "brown" person and many of my neighbors are "brown" behind gates. Together we live in an area without crime and all get along fine.

Reagan contributed greatly to increasing the divide between the wealthiest & poorest.
Reagan and Thatcher promoted economic rationalism ie neo economics. I remember Thatcher saying that " there is no such thing as society, only indviduals" ie sense of community and belonging doesn't exist, that we have no common good or sense of responsibility to each other. It was all about the individual.
Reagan pushed the idea that government was all the problem, that only individuals can solve societies ills.
If people only look back at the USA say before the great depression, and the massive wealth held by just a few, the rest with little. Roosevelt came along and enacted major reforms, that then helped create a major middle class from the 1940s on. Then Reagan and other leaders over the years reversed a lot of this . Working class and middle class got screwed.The great society no more, just oligarchs who lobby governments for private interests.
It wasn’t Roosevelt it was labor riots and violence and the threatening from bosses to force you to make your babies work the factory… Roosevelt was smart then and saw disorder and rest in Russia… after all… aren’t decent societies about how badly can you treat the poor “mobs” before they riot and get away with it.
History contains so many beautiful treasures to teach us, unfortunately capitalists exploited the labor. Oftentimes the absolute fastest way to get something done in a federalist /capitalist system is to give power to labor.

Ehh. I think it has way more to do with there being no sense of community anymore. Humans lived in small communities where everyone knew everyone for most of our existence. Individualism is more or less the root of our depression as a society.
The unhappiness is due to people being dissatisfied with what they have. Whatever they get is never enough. They measure happiness with wreath and fame. People who are satisfied with what they have and live within their means, AND do not ENVY others, then they are on their way to self satisfaction and happiness.
Blame advertising. do you remember watching all the TV sitcoms in the 1960s, 70's and 80's The male always had a job in advertising, we would not even know about a product if not advertised lol

It all comes down to the total removal of any restrictions on borrowing and debt and the vast interest rate apartheid that goes with it. Those with the ability to borrow at next to zero can create unlimited amounts out of thin air whenever they want and use it to buy up all the assets that those without that privilege need to survive, creating debt slaves and serfs and who have to pay extortionate rates. The wall street guy who is hard working has earned it to some degree and managed his finances and time but is doing what he's told to suck up to the elite in the pursuit of some status that he'll never achieve. It's those privileged banks and corporates that can create that free money that have not earned anything. That bipolar access to credit is the heart of the divide.
People take life to seriously and they trap themselves in a self imposed prison. Most important is health, everything else can be replaced. Live smart and live simple.
