@@Catching_Rockets i agree with you. I'd just walk up to the baby raccoon and pick it up if I had gloves on and he had gloves on so idk why he so scared. Plus you could take it to the vet to like see if it has rabies or not and treat it or do something at least if you're scared of the little raccoon. But hey he still at least saved the baby raccoon I guess that's all that matters

I totally get how hard it was to find someone to take him. A few days ago I rescued a baby raccoon from a rain gutter on a neighbors roof the night before hurricane Ian came through. The rehab transporter who picked him up is now trying to get me to become part of the rehab team. Your video showed me how people are needed to help, so I will seriously consider it. I admire how this man didn’t immediately decide to keep Ricky as a pet. He rescued him, nursed him, and then tried to contact the proper authorities to help him because he wanted Ricky to have the life he deserved. That’s being honorable and having wisdom and I respect him for that.

That was so precious! I had a pet raccoon as a child that was rescued. My neighbor found him much as you did and back then he was taken to just a vet who vaccinated him. We raised him, I was about 10 then after the milk phase he loved grapes and bananas and fishing worms. Brought back great memories!!

For future reference, the local zoo is always a good place to call in these situations. I took a baby squirrel to the zoo near me (Asheboro, NC) several years ago after the tree where it lived fell, and they let me call periodically and receive updates about his care. If you ever find yourself in that sort of situation again, especially on one of your out-of-town trips, I would definitely recommend at least trying it.

I live in a neighborhood just outside the city limits of a small city. We had a skunk wander into the middle of the street and just kind of collapse (kind of like it was drunk). Nobody on the street wanted to mess with it for fear of rabies or getting sprayed. I called several city services and NONE of them would come out to take care of it.
"Is it acting strange?"
"Yes, it's a skunk out in the middle of the day."
"Well that's really not acting strange. Has it bitten any one?"
"No."
"Well, we can't do anything."
Eventually it wandered to the next street over and somebody over there was able to scoop it up and take it somewhere.

My family raises raccoons that we find that are abandoned or given to us and the age that one looks to be they really don’t have teeth. Especially with you wearing gloves you would’ve been safe picking it up with your hands. You did the right thing saving it, but I was sure laughing at you for how you got it out the water. Keep it up man!

In order to keep a raccoon as a pet in the following states, the owner must obtain a permit or license, or must register the animal with local authorities: Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Maine, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and South Dakota.
The point in the video is him talking on the phone about being given phone numbers to licensed reahbs for animals. One can't just create an rehab for wild animals in their backyard and expect to get a tax break out of it. They have to have a license to do that.

There is always a chance a raccoon will have rabies, but rabies makes the carrier hydrophobic, so its highly unlikely this little guy has rabies since you found him in water.
I've had a raccoon with rabies on our porch, it was stage 2 aka braindead. Lil Ricky isn't braindead or ridiculously aggressive so he probably dosent have rabies.

@@Pintomare11 well you clearly dont understand how it works then, it starts with hydrophobia, then when it starts to take over it causes the infected animal to become careless. They just dont care whether you shoot them or not. Stage three occurs about a week after the careless stage and it's when they become aggressive.

They'd do the same thing to a rabbit. Nature taking its course. Do you have any idea how many peeps call for wild animals in trouble? They simply don't have the funds to care for all of them. I raised and released a squirrel because he would have died otherwise and no one would take him.
As a Raccoon lover, Thank you for saving him from his certain death. Even if it's associated with hard work and spending a lot money i think i couldn't give him away after saving him. It would brake my heart.

Faith Gagnon vets don’t let you take in animals that aren’t yours . You can’t even know if they survived because they don’t want people pretending to have found animals to get a free check up at the vet
Hi faith Gagnon in the video he mentioned that Ricky was brought to a rehabilitation center. Ricky is a wild animal and it would be best for him to be ultimately released back to the wild :) he is adorable though, glad that they were responsible.
