I have fond memories of seeing this in imax. To tell you the truth it took me a bit in the movie to realize stuff was cut. The sound experience was amazing.
Yeah, I forgot to mention that it had like six track lossless audio as opposed to the compressed Dolby Digital 5.1 it likely had for regular theatrical engagements.
Thank you for covering this! I’ve gone back and made some experimental edits to this movie for fun, And have I’ve always been curious as to what the IMAX version was. Sidenote. I absolutely love your channel, the hard work you put into all of these, and how authentically you present yourself. It stands out amongst some of the overly produced, artificial, feeling film channels. You really stand out, and are going far.
Apollo 13 was also imaxed that year. I'm not sure if it was 1:66.1 in theaters or 1:43.1. The dvd is also edited down in imax. However it had the luxury of being filmed in super 35 so it wasn't significantly cropped and opened up from top to bottom
AOTC is the film that could have used some more trimming and give the movie a better tempo. It's an interesting idea to see how much one could trim from it while keeping what was needed.
The bad CGI apple 🍎 eating scene is unintentionally funny AF 😅

Great breakdown Nick. I always disliked the editing George did after the Dooku fight on the bluray, it seems so jarring with the music cut too
