      A tip on full time, if ya gonna use the campers toilet, use it the same way as if camping then hitting a dump station. Running the hose to septic tank and leaving black tank open full time with crash ya onboard sewer. Yuns prolly know that but just incase.

      I am brand new to the RV world, and I'm also starting full-time RVing. I just bought a new 2023 truck, and a Jayco Jay Flight travel Trailer which is waiting for me at the dealership lot and I plan on picking it up in about a week!! Nervous but excited to travel...it will help me grieve/heal from recently losing my wife of 30 years😢

    Thank you for such good details. I'm thinking about getting a "baby" trailer and have no idea how to even begin. I'll have to watch this video a dozen times to make sure I don't miss any items. The black tank is what is one of my fears and the most is hitching it up. I'll have to buy a bigger SUV. God should it break away from the truck.. I'm a 67 year old, woman, single and have never ever done anything like this. I've retired and thought it's time to get on the road and see some of our beautiful sites.

    FYI: If you need an adjustable slide wrench, try replacing your hose washers with rubber hose washers. Use some plumbers lube to keep them supple.
    Also, start connecting to the dump port, going back to the trailer. That way, as you take caps off and connect sections of your tank drain, and there is liquid black, it will go into😮 the dump, not on the ground.

    I have that surge protector and I learned about this one is that it's a one time use. Once it pops from a major surge there's no manual reset breaker on it or even a built in electronic reset, so to get that you'll have to up grade to a more expensive one to have those options...

    I had seem other videos that say you should always put the water filter at the spigot with the WPR first. I see you put yours at the camper side. Bottom line is ... does it matter? Another question i have is we will be using the hot water heaterfor the first time and was wondering about anything i need to do for first time usage?

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  Před rokem +1

      @John Possible we like to connect the filter at the trailer end of the hose because sometimes the spigot is too low to the ground and there is not enough room for the filter & the water pressure regulator. Regarding your chains, if they're not long enough, people should make sure they find a way to allow them to make an X. The X is absolutely critical in the event your hitch detached from your truck, or the trailer comes off the ball. The X literally holds the weight of your trailer so you can safely stop. Without it, the tongue of your trailer will dig into the road and create a much worse situation.

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  Před 2 měsíci

    I am SO appreciate of your videos. Thank you! I am about to complete my first camping trip with the same trailer that you have. I had some issues with my water heater, I've left comments on two other videos of yours. Those issues are resolved thanks to other campers who know a lot more about this than I do and your video (not just a newbie, but well, let's just say I asked myself while in bed the first night, what in the world was I thinking buying this trailer? Had to remind myself several times of the dream. Of course, I was prepared for a full hook up and instead had to use a dump station, so I'm grateful that this video included that. Just FYI ! I have no idea the reason a lot of people do this, they use the 90 degree elbow on the water connection to the trailer but put the water filter hung just below that, the wieght of the filter full of water is a little heavy and puts added strain on the connection. I run the filter just after my water pressure regulater. most of rv connections are all plastic and actually pretty cheap. This is just my opinion.

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  Před 2 lety

      @David Groves We have done it that way, but sometimes the water spigot is too low to the ground and there is not enough space for the filter so we like to put it at the other end. We do appreciate you bringing this idea up in the comment section in case someone else prefers that option! Thanks for watching our video & taking time to comment! 😄

    Just converted my 23ft camper to a fully offgrid beast. Still have new toilet to install and new air box. My biggest complaint is the A/c Fan will never shut off because of its poor design. I am adding a coleman mach bluetooth assembly to add smart a/c control. It is attaching to a Dometic unit So I will need to use a wire harness adapter and the new structural metal frame bracket that comes with the air box.
    My all plastic toilet legitimately scared me to use. I pictured myself laying on a broken toilet bleeding and covered in poop, just scary to use in general. it is getting replaced with a composite upgrade with wood seat.
    I put two 40lb tanks on the tongue, I initially upgraded to two 30 lb tanks. Winter camping eats through my fuel too fast so I will now be carrying up to 160lb of fuel with me on my trips. Two 40lb on the tongue, two 30lb strapped in truck bed and possibly the single 20lb tank too. Now that I have a full off-grid camper I want to eliminate my need to drive into town for anything while camping.
    I also have Solar, Even without Solar If I just used my Generator and battery power I would still cut down on half of my fuel cost without using solar at all. Normally to achieve 6 hours shore power I would need to run the generator for 6 hours,Now I can achieve 9 hours shore power by only running the generator 3 hours.
    Example: It takes 3 hours flat to charge my 400ah of LifePO4 battery's and once charged will run for 6+ hours depending on the load. Running just a furnace would probably run that a week or so without needing a charge. I actually have 600ah of battery's but 200ah are Lead Acid and brand new, I would actually remove them now but because they are new I will use them until I convert to 100% LifePO4. The weight of 200ah of lead acid is more than 400ah of LifePO4. THE ONLY reason i leave all that weight on my camper is because it acts as a backup system for me as the banks are separate from one another. The LifePO4 will actually charge the Lead Acid while providing shore power through LifePO4 battery's.

    This might be a dumb questions lol ... if I drain mt sewer into the portable holding tank, can I first line the inside of the holding tank with a trash bag so after I empty the portable tank, the remaining clean up of the inside of the portable tank is easier, just pull the bag out and toss it. ... Similar to when you cook with a crockpot, you can use a crock pot bag and it makes clean up so much easier, after removing the food from crock pot (either cause you ate it all, or cause you keeping for left overs, you just pull the bag from the crock pot and toss it!!! So easy!!!! Please let me know if this is possible for the portable poo tanks!?!?

    • @OutsidebySide
      @OutsidebySide  Před měsícem +1

      @@nems_girl3777 @nems_girl3777 First and foremost there is no such thing as a dumb question! We do not drain the black tank in the portable holding tank since we have not had a problem with the black tank becoming full during our trips. These are mainly for the grey tank because they fill up faster! If you need to dump your black tank and can get a bag in there, it sounds like a brilliant idea! @@OutsidebySideGreat job on explaining things you two.
      My wife and I just purchased a Ram 3500 Diesel and Toy Hauler last week. We are about to load the Harley-Davidson in it and take off but I have no idea what the heck I’m doing with all these connections, valves, switches and the procedures that go with it. So thanks for explaining everything.
      Maybe I’ll do a local run to a nearby lake campground just to get acquainted with everything.
      I can totally see myself tryin to figure things out at the waste dump with a line of vehicles behind me. Or at the campsite walking around with a hand full of thumbs. I saved yer video and subscribed too.
      Don’t be shocked if ya hear from me again!!!!!
      ✌🏽

    Probably a dumb question. What do you do for water when the temperature gets below 32 degrees? I assume you would have to disconnect everything before hand.

      @robtintelnot9107 First of all, there are no dumb questions in our community! We are glad you asked! 😀 we have seen a heated water hose that prevents the water source from the campsite from freezing before it enters the camper. Lucky for us we live in South Texas so we don’t experience extreme cold on a regular basis! You also want to keep an eye out on your tanks to prevent them from freezing. Our new camper has a heated enclosed underbelly which helps protect our tanks and valves. Thanks for watching! 😀
