Rings of Saturn's Aaron Stechauner "Senseless Massacre" Drum Playthough

  • This is the song I've gotten asked to film from "Lugal Ki En" the most, so here it is! Pretty tough stuff, gravities and double strokes and all that, but a super fun tune with a lot of groove, ghost notes, and cool things Aaron Kitcher wrote.
    Given the enormous amount of controversy behind us (Rings of Saturn) as a band, here's a full breakdown of how we did this video:
    Audio was all done in one take. I had my snare, two toms and two overhead microphones, as well as trigger module all running into a multi channel live mixer. Miles (Rings' guitarist) and I got a rough mix on the mixer and routed the sound straight into the camera that was filming the front angle (the one you see on the tripod in the behind shots). This audio, once onto the computer, was all one SINGLE track. With that said, all drum audio heard is unedited, with zero quantizing and correction. We couldn't have don't that if we wanted to because, again, we had one single track with all six lines' audio.
    As far as the video situation goes, the audio heard is the same take as the front facing shot (the camera you see on the tripod during the behind angle). This take is also the same one as the bird's-eye view, shot with Lucas' GoPro. Unfortunately for us, we just had these two cameras. So, the foot cam shot and behind angle shot were separate takes from the bird's-eye and front facing angle. Again, however, the audio is used from the same take as the later two mentioned, as it was routed straight into the camera setup on the tripod.
    Once again, a huge thanks to Tama for the gorgeous G-Maple Snare I'm using for the first time here!
    I proudly endorse Tama, Axis Percussion, 1964 Ears, Mt. Baker Vapor, and Remo Drumheads (whom I just came became a part of and will of course be using 100% from here on out).

      A device that may cause air particles around it to oscillate at a certain frequency might have potential in entertaining and fuelling our desire for using the strange holes in the sides of our heads which have the power to translate those frequencies into something that may be deemed as recognisable and coherent.
      I feel like we may be developing a theory here... xD

  • @rach.hadfield
    @rach.hadfield Před 8 lety +1

    I love RoS easily best album of the year but this technique is NOT heel-toe! Its more like leg foot. Look at the position of the heel. What is happening here is a quick, macro version of that movement. It is actually a slight extension of the leg from the knee (a sort of push forward/down at the knee onto the flat of the foot) then a subsequent plantarflexion (movement of the foot pivoting at the ankle, curling the toes in). This motion can be easier when beginning by moving your leg from side to side, helping the foot return to it's original position after the plantarflexion.
