Rings of Saturn's Aaron Stechauner "Senseless Massacre" Drum Playthough

- This is the song I've gotten asked to film from "Lugal Ki En" the most, so here it is! Pretty tough stuff, gravities and double strokes and all that, but a super fun tune with a lot of groove, ghost notes, and cool things Aaron Kitcher wrote.
Given the enormous amount of controversy behind us (Rings of Saturn) as a band, here's a full breakdown of how we did this video:
Audio was all done in one take. I had my snare, two toms and two overhead microphones, as well as trigger module all running into a multi channel live mixer. Miles (Rings' guitarist) and I got a rough mix on the mixer and routed the sound straight into the camera that was filming the front angle (the one you see on the tripod in the behind shots). This audio, once onto the computer, was all one SINGLE track. With that said, all drum audio heard is unedited, with zero quantizing and correction. We couldn't have don't that if we wanted to because, again, we had one single track with all six lines' audio.
As far as the video situation goes, the audio heard is the same take as the front facing shot (the camera you see on the tripod during the behind angle). This take is also the same one as the bird's-eye view, shot with Lucas' GoPro. Unfortunately for us, we just had these two cameras. So, the foot cam shot and behind angle shot were separate takes from the bird's-eye and front facing angle. Again, however, the audio is used from the same take as the later two mentioned, as it was routed straight into the camera setup on the tripod.
Once again, a huge thanks to Tama for the gorgeous G-Maple Snare I'm using for the first time here!
I proudly endorse Tama, Axis Percussion, 1964 Ears, Mt. Baker Vapor, and Remo Drumheads (whom I just came became a part of and will of course be using 100% from here on out).

Haha most definitely

Did you just assume their gender?
More a Warthog: brrrrrrrrrrrrpppp!!!!!

Why is everyone named Aaron imbued with the power of a thousand metal drummers?
aaron kitcher of infant annihilator. that guy is absolutely fucking insane. i swear he’s on coke 24/7. i don’t even listen to ia but holy shit.
@@bread_girl_jane More like his computer is on coke 24/7.
@@bread_girl_jane yes he is a good programmer
@James James sure glad youre here to explain these things to me
You're thinking of the name "Matt"
1:42 is just so smooth. Jesus.
Going to require a sample of your DNA, not convinced you are human after that playthrough
David Bryson I don't think anyone in this band is human tbh
@@jacobjeffreys4353 guitar pro is indeed not human
Seriously, if someone ever said anything negative about your drumming should get the fuck out, you are fucking amazing. Like!
***** It was good but it was sloppy, but thats understandable because the song is near to impossible to fucking play IRL so good fucking work.
To be fair, there are dudes like Kolias and Longstreth that play retarded hard stuff incredibly flawlessly. Although those guys are all in their late 30s/40s, and I'm 20 lol
Aaron Stechauner Shit you're only 20? I'm 23 and been playing since 16, not even close to this. But to be honest I don't really have time to devote to practice.
Yeah man, the whole career ahead of you. Wish you the best =)
This just goes to show, that when you smack something, a sound of some kind will usually follow.
Amazing
Bob Jones There could be a whole branch of science devoted to this! Something about
airwaves vibrating, or something.
Horatio Trismegistus -John Madden
+Horatio Trismegistus Interesting.
A device that may cause air particles around it to oscillate at a certain frequency might have potential in entertaining and fuelling our desire for using the strange holes in the sides of our heads which have the power to translate those frequencies into something that may be deemed as recognisable and coherent.
I feel like we may be developing a theory here... xD
xMalevolution That's kind of "out there."
But I'm curious, if this were to be possible,
how could these oscillations be used to push
forward the agenda of the NWO? Our reptilian overlords are getting impatient.
This guy has mastered the one-handed roll and heel-toe techniques. It's kinda inspirational haha
Aaron Stechauner is love, Aaron Kitcher is life. =)
Aaron is love Aaron is life
FABULOUS!!!!! I love living in these days!! Thanks for getting that up!
Respect man, you're awesome!
That was amazing!!!
This is phenomenal, and that snare must be filled with butter!
This is top tier. me and my buddies are gonna learn this song as a long term project.
Aaron, you are THE MAN!! Such a purist...
Oh man this is amazing, I've been practising this song for a couple months via audio only and I just found this video today to find a lot of my positioning and techniques are what Aaron is using here :'D sorry to boast or anything but I'm just super happy
Have you learnt it yet?
(Just wondering)
One of my favorites, nice job killer!
Been practicing this song for about 5 years on and off now. Ima be real proud when I can finally pull it off!
this is why now i use gravity blast you are a biggest influence for me thanks for upload this and waiting for more Aaron :D
Awesome playthrough man, your technique is really impressive :D
Very impressive. I look forward to seeing more. So far all of rings of Saturn's drummers have been unique as Fuck, and each of them added there own twist on things. Pretty fucking epic.
Congrats on the Tama endorsement! :-)
Not bad for an album that was recorded and released before the full band even rehearsed it together. hahahaha.
They're just that damn good 👍 😂😂
great shit man :) never seen that kick technique look so fluid and easy.
good job Aaron. bad ass job. I have been working on covering this on drums. tricky. but good job man for real, you killed it let the haters hate. people always seem to talk trash about true talent because they're jealous. programmed or not is totally irrelevant, only important thing is your a beast and you killed it.
Amazing
Holy shit Aaron, great job! For a guy as young as you are, you’re already a fucking monster. And keeping up with those programmed drum parts is a extremely difficult task. 10/10 bro 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Sick drumming Aaron! would love to see (hear) you play in the UK one day!
I applaud how well youre able to pull off Kitcher's material. Not many people can do that very easily, i assume you practice this stuff a lot
That some next level shit right there son
biggest inspiration. i learned how to do gravity blasts yesterday, i'm attempting natural selection
LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
best cover ever
This song is so fucking amazing I can't believe they're not playing it live !
Sick ✌🏼❤️
Both Aaron's that play this are badass
original is programmed
Sick
Sick!
awesome
I come back to send good vibes to my fav drummer. god bless you aaron.
Amazing drumtechnik
Aaron I love you man
Very impressive drumming
How can you endure to play this live amongst other songs with the same quality? This is so insane.
Holy shit man, can't even believe this is real. 🤘👹
now someone should do in one take
aaron kitcher, really a monster. AK!!!! the peds are like AK47 so fast
"yes those were double strokes" perfect time too add that lol
this was fucking awesome
Thanks for letting me know those were double strokes cause I could hardly tell.
now do Godless Times! :D would love to see a drum playthrough of that
ALLIIIIIIEEEEEENNS EVERYWHERE!
Holy shit
Man, I can play guitar, and that requires rhythm itself, but drumming seems superhuman to me.
+Vincent Bokan man i play drums and this shit IS superhuman
+Vincent Bokan I'm a drummer. Let's just say keeping rhythm on rhythm guitar is easy.
Double bass is probably the easiest part. Heel toe is a pretty comfortable technique. Blast beats are the hardest part of this. I certainly can't play this.
@@erraticboss168 nah, the double bass in this song is pretty all over, the gravity blasts are easier once you get them down, trust me
@@saiyanblood321 i said blast beats, gravity are probably the easiest type of blast.
Sick! it's nice to see a drum playthrough were they actually record the drums and not just put the studio song on top...
Hey dude, if you ever see this, who edited this video and what program? Really good job to whoever did it.
NOICE
+Aaron Stechauner can you do a listen on the one handed drum roll please?
The fact that you can play it up to speed not even half ass sloppy is just amazing like yeah there was a hiccup at the beginning but damn bro that was fucking sick
When do you guy think you will be in the North Carolina area
Dude this is awesome af! Cant no body talk shit about you man. Lets hang out again next time your in North Va or Md
n/
Gravity blasts🤘🏻 sounded great
i dont care if its programmed or shit, this is very relaxing to me
Hey man, do you use a heel toe technique? So brutal ma :D Congrats , hugs from brazil!!
I freaked out when it said "Yes, those were double strokes." Because that was exactly what I was thinking.
do you absolutely HAVE to have axis pedals to get that double stroke bass drum technique down so tight? i find it hard to get the same result with some other pedals.
You are now one of my hetero man crushes. If I found a drummer like you here, I'd never have quit playing in bands.
hey , Aaron , I was considering getting some soultone's , but I have been hearing about durability problems, how much do they break for you?
I wouldn't go for them. Decent sound, but they break quick and they have no kind of replacement/warranty. I would check out Meinl 100%!
Please teach me double strokes. Yours are just perfect.
That snare is huge! I use a piccolo snare
At the first look, this guy, to me, looked like the drummer from Whiplash!
Hey aaron it looks like you set your beaters a little high on your bass. Does beater height create a different feel?
Sick as fuck dude.
I really hope you guys come to Texas sooner or later
He even looked surprised after that was done....can we get a solo from him??
Awesome play through. So did Aaron Kitcher have anything to do with the drums on this song/album? I see that you said the drums were programmed, so I'm kind of confused.
Yeah he wrote the drum parts and sent them over in superior drummer.
Heel-Toe technique? Or do u usying the Double-Double hit pedals? ... Just askin bra :))
They should release instrumental versions also, you can really focus on the groove. Either way I love ros
wow very great......
i like it
what pedal do you using
lools like axis
i never noticed there were no drums for the last bit
Siick
I wonder what the lifespan of his shoes average.. Mans a beast with rhythm.
So Aaron wrote the parts and programmed them? Makes since. This shit is bonkers.
Fuckyeah it's great!
Toca pra caralho.
Also wouldnt it be impossible for your double bass speed to be that fast without triggers?
So given Kitcher writes the parts, are the parts played by a computer for the album and you play live or do you record in the studio? Just wondering
can somebody please explain me what is happening in the fast bass drum parts
lbgmrg Double stroking
Gravity blast at 0:09 seconds in... I'm intrigued.
Good Shhiitttt 😎😎😎
Hey Mr Aaron, I just want to know if you can achieve those speeds with single strokes maybe with some swivel action down there.
I know that m8,its just that I wanted to know if Aaron was capable of reaching those speeds with single strokes
Ery Ren Before I started doing the doubles, I would swivel. I still do when I go faster with singles, but I honestly haven't kept up the practice with the singles too much lately.
are you using Sennheiser E604s on your toms and snare?
bloody fucking hell
That was insane. I do have a question. Why does the wicked fast double bass parts not look like with my eyes what my ears are hearing? what's the trick?
It's the double stroke technique.
+gaargy1 If curious, Search "Heel-Toe Drum Technique", I believe it's much alike what Aaron uses.
+gaargy1 The camera recording him is not fast enough to capture all of his foot movement. A 60fps camera might do better, but I doubt it would even be fast enough.
He's doing heel toe, but the fps on the camera isn't fast enough to catch it all. I've seen them live and it's insanely fast and completely real
The lighting wasn't the best either
what about the play through uploaded by Sammynelgas XD?? there is so much groove in that video you really should share it
Where can i download the guitar tracks only?
I love RoS easily best album of the year but this technique is NOT heel-toe! Its more like leg foot. Look at the position of the heel. What is happening here is a quick, macro version of that movement. It is actually a slight extension of the leg from the knee (a sort of push forward/down at the knee onto the flat of the foot) then a subsequent plantarflexion (movement of the foot pivoting at the ankle, curling the toes in). This motion can be easier when beginning by moving your leg from side to side, helping the foot return to it's original position after the plantarflexion.
It lacks zazz.
***** but... it needs more zazz
11volcano I know what you mean. It just feels like...... there could be more zazz.
I feel like the Zazz is to suppressed.
BassbaitGG Zazz is no longer recognized as a legitimate form of artistic expression, and all "zazzists" are subject to a galaxy-wide recall.
i know 2 years late but is this a dethklok reference
Were those double strokes at 2:18
On those fast double bass parts, it looks to me as if you're only playing half speed. Are you using some special technique or are your feet just really that fast? Great job byw.
+Corey Galindo It's double strokes.
Yeah I thought so much.
this was killer man, I fucking LOVE that snare. what is it?
Thanks dude! It's a Tama SLP G maple snare.
+Aaron Stechauner sorry man I never watch it to the end I had just been going back the beginning or I would have seen you put the name at the end of the video. my bad dude.
+decemberswimming you cant even hear the snare through all that compression. terrible mixing, great drummer.
+Ángel Rodríguez really? That's crazy. I'm watching the same video yet I can hear it just fine? That's weiiiiiiiird.
Fucking hell my eyes are deceiving me o.o
Can you tell me which pedal you're using? *o*
aiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirwin
itLEAKED Who is this who knows me by airwin?
