The 1980 & 1979 XR500s are very similar in there appearances and mechanics, is there an easy way to tell the difference apart? Just bought a 19.. and was wondering how to quickly distinguish between the two. Sick video, absolutely eats on the trails!
Thank you! Yeah these bikes are so torquey, it's really fun to ride. And the easiest way to tell the difference is the side of the gas tank. 1979 just says Honda on it, 1980 says Honda and has a picture of the Honda Wing on it.
Yeah it needs a lot 😅 it's my beater bike, it's been in my family since it was brand new. It doesn't even have an airbox, just a big K&N air filter clamped on to the carb, kind of risky riding in the sand 😬

Needs a bigger jet to stop the backfiring. Too lean.
