Thanks Mr. Stassa for a great overview on button locks!
Sencut Crowley is a great button lock and for $47 it’s gotta be around top 3 easily 💪🏼 💪🏼💪🏼
totally agree with your elementum lack of deployment issue. hello back stassa kiddo!
Gotta love a top ten video. I absolutely agree with that #1 my Malibu has been sitting in the case since the Conspirator came in. Thanks Stassa!
Love them button locks. Thanks Stassa. Happy Easter to you and your family! 🐇🐥🥚🍫
Thanks . Hope you and your family have a great Easter
Great list. I have the 5 of top 6 and would agree they are awesome!
Thanks for sharing love a good button lock haven't bought the conspirator yet but most definitely on my list of budget knives
I love my Cogent, also a couple of the others on your list are on my list for purchase. Good video.
That modded Elementum is dope! Nice job. 👍
Definitely an awesome line-up...👍🏼
I'm glad that recently we got more button/axis lock knives, not just civivi
I just picked up a crkt pyrite and pyrite large, bestechman ronan and vosteed raccoon.
I own the Civivi Conspirator in black micarta and love it.
Thanks Stassa. Love me a button lock.
Love the idea of button locks - own zero right now sold my custom Spyderco Smock- owned the Civivi ‘s just felt too cheap - haven’t found one I couldn’t let go yet- fun video either way😃
His hands are so cool! I wish mine were like that.
I also have the orion solaris but i have it in red accents..awesome knife in my opinion.
Love both my Conspirator and my Assassin (sounds like video game heroes), but the Conspirator is my most often carried.
One nice thing about the Solaris is that they sell different colored accents and scales on the website for a pretty decent price. It makes the knife really easy to customize a bit.
Can’t wait to get my cjrb feldspar button lock tomorrow.
I almost picked one up that’s going to be a good one.
New to your channel Neeves mentioned that you have great content and man I agree! Been digging through your archives GREAT stuff my man! Just ordered a conspirator will let you know what I think, appreciate your perspective and thoughts feel your spot on!
Thanks and I am happy to have you. I think your going to love the Conspirator it’s an awesome knife. Jared has been great friend and it’s awesome to see him finally getting the subs he deserves because he works harder than anyone I know and helps me all the time 👌well I hope you have a great day talk to you later 🍻🍻
Got your first two in my collection as well. Actually did a flipper delete on the Swayback, and it improved the lines IMMENSELY (IMO). RE the Griffin, that was a collab with Huang Liang Zhi, a.k.a Carson Tech Labs to make a production model of his custom Griffin. From what I understand, he had bought a TON of the needle bearings for his customs, and passed them off to RealSteel to use in the 14c28n Griffins, and they also used them in the Gen 1 and Gen 2 G5 Metamorphs. But then the producer of those bearings either stopped making them or went out of business, so the Ti version of the Griffin (which is still available) and the compact / higher end variants of the Metamorph all switched to standard bearings. From the reviews that I've seen, the action on the Ti Griffin or Metamorph variants just doesn't hold a candle to the needle bearings, so I'm guessing that the lack of availability of the needle bearings probably has something to do with why the Griffin was discontinued.
New King in town: Sencut Sachse baby
I just got the elementom button lock same color and I don’t mind not having thumb studs. It deploys fast and is very fidgety! I prefer the 14 c 28 mov. To the other option
The griffin is one I wish I could have had. Won't be able to find it i am sure thank you for video Mr Stassa
Yeah I missed it too. Really love the look of that one.
I still love my Griffin. Just acid washed the blade and pocket clip. Mine came with a polished pocket clip. Man I have always loved this knife. Keep up the great vids bro. Thanks
Hey, can I ask your recipe and timeframe for acid washing? I tried a diluted ferric chloride solution on a d2 blade and got lots of (ugly) dark oxidized spots, not a nice even finish. Thought you might have some tips to share! I appreciate the help!
@@DZNTZ I watched Stassa video on acid washing a blade . I followed his vid and the knives I tried it on turned out looking pretty good. I will say that having a very clean and oil free blade is very important. Hope this points you in the right direction.
I have the TI version of the Griffin. It's an awesome knife in m390 the fake carbon fiber inlays make it look a little cheap though. The pocket clip is also not attractive but it functions very well.
Honor to be on the list, let me know if you want to try some 2nd run scales with more chamfering in the grip area.
Oh yea, these are my jam
Nice!
I just bought the released today CIVIVI Chevalier with the stone washed blade and black handles because a blade shape I’ve never used and it’s my first button lock knife
I just finished my testing on the Chevalier last night and I have to say I like it a good bit 👌
I bought the conspirator because of how much I liked the elementum, cogent, and altus, but my conspirator came with so much lock stick that it turns into a fixed blade when you open it. It also has the weakest detent I've even seen on a civivi. I returned it promptly.
Wow that sucks , that’s the one problem with button locks , they are so finicky I mean look at Protech they have been doing button lock for the longest time and one of my Malibu’s had horrendous button stick and I had to return it as well. Lucy for me button locks aren’t my favorite mechanism 👍
I had a MAJJJOR issue with the Civivi Cogent. So bad that I had to return it. I played with it for hours and hours, over the course of a few days, and it never got better. I had to take the knife apart a couple of times to get the button to release. Just ordered the Begleiter XL, if I like it, i am going to get the Begleiter 2 as well.
So I have the Altus and love, played with it for a few days got it working very smooth, but then I dropped it and the lock stuck severely and I thought I'd bent something, but I didn't! What the problem is, is that the spring for the button has moved from the center of the hole to the outside and is causing the button not to depress fully, Civivi needs to either have a small peg in the cutout for the button to keep the spring in the middle
Nice line up. Own a few on it myself 👍 Looking forward to a couple more.
Bought that Solaris after watching this video, have almost all the others including the twosuns. I'm going to buy a tormac pcnc so I can start making my own knives. I think mine will beat them all.
Nice look forward to seeing that, button locks are nice.
Sweet that’s awesome 👍
love my begleiter. deleted the flipper so I can choke up on it. it's so good
Yay.
Another great video, thanks! Do you mind sharing what you used to make the thumb stud hole in S35VN? Could you drill it, or did you need to use a tapered diamond burr?
Re: the TwoSun, other than my Spyderco Tropen, it's the only knife in my collection I consider dangerous. I have many button locks, but it's the only one that's closed on me in use. The button sticks out waay too far. I was doing a pull cut, didn't realize the side of my thumb was pressing the button slightly, and after making it thru the zip tie it shut on the web of my hand between thumb and pointer. Thank God it didn't cut me open as I wasn't pulling too hard, but needless to say it's no longer in my rotation. One of these days I'll get around to putting it up for sale.
Civivi and Kizer as usual
Yep there the only ones making button locks under $100
Great job. Just cost me a couple of hundred dollars.
still like the griffin.
wish the conspiritor had a thumb stud, im on a big thumb stud kick and hardly any knives have em anymore
Great vid, thanks! How do you go about drilling a hole for thumbstuds in a hardened blade? I’ve tried and failed, hoping to learn how! Thanks again.
You have to use a solid carbide drill bit and you also need to use a lot of cutting fluid because you don’t want the blade to get hot
@@Stassa23 Okay, cool. I need to invest in a proper bit then, I was just using a regular bit. I did use a press, and some oil, but all I did was make heat, smoke, and a very dull bit lol. Thanks for the tip, appreciate it!
I hope Kizer makes the XL Beg a standard knife in the lineup or makes a new XL or XL variant of that original.
I herd they were making a bigger Original
@@Stassa23 nice! Do you know if it will be in Titanium or not?
Is there a risk of the button lock blade opening when rolling around on the knife? I like to clip my knife facing inside my waistband and often nap and roll around on the floor with my child. I'm wondering if a Civivi Elementum button lock knife or other button lock knives might or might not be a good choice. Thanks for the help.
I carried a Kizer Cormorant clipped in the cargo pocket of my shorts, with it clipped near the front of the pocket so the blade wasn't trapped against the pocket. I was running around playing games at camp with my kid, realized after the game it had dropped open and was stabbing through the bottom of my pocket. If the button lock doesn't have a firm detent, be careful how you carry.
What kind of burn accident have those hands been in brother?
i wish the altus had a flipper
New to knives can u recommend 2 inch best of best 🙏
We’re happy to have you 👍 what types of things will you be doing with it and are you looking for something beefy and tuff or something very Slicey, does it need to be a stainless steel
How much for the 2sun??
The original was designed by Gage GZ not mojave outdoors😃
The Civivi Elementum button lock was the first button lock put out by Civivi, not the Cogent, as stated in the video.
Yes I realized that and that’s the reason I corrected it on the screen and said second button lock but that’s for the feedback 👍
13:17 What exactly IS "American micarta"? I was under impression that "American" micarta was more like canvas micarta, or more texture-y/ lower resin-fabric ratio... Id much appreciate if anyone can educate me on the difference, thanks!!
American Micarta you can see the layers and fabric much better and our colors are a good bit different however the stuff the Chinese use has gotten a lot better, I think they were using more resin over fabric and whatever type of resin they use must not be the same. Not 💯 sure what’s they are doing different
@@Stassa23 ah ok thank you! On that note, my preference is the "American" style hands down.
First! Doesn't matter but first haha!
Stassa do you have the kershaw starkey ridge? I picked up the XL version off ebay with a lowball offer that was accepted.. Why do civivi's all look a like? BTW I'm new to the knife community and learning about knives I had been buying Japanese fixed blade tantos, japan made folders and USA or Japanese Kershaws as a way to get into knife collecting. I would love to see some of your vintage tactical knife magazines along with those old knives you found while moving I heard you mention in a video recently. Also I bought my adamas because of yours being done by BGM blade, what did you tell him to do so it turned out the way it did?
And where is the cormorant?
My Griffin doesn’t have that secondary lock on it..
Yeah I think they stopped using it after the first run because a lot of people had problems with it easily locking
I would be happy to take that TwoSun 313 off your hands for 90 bucks!
Honestly, I was hoping you would have kept the original off this list...very disappointing
Definitely not worth 80, feels cheap and the lock has failed on me twice today opening Easter baskets
@@MASHEDMallow11 dang that’s shit, mine has been fine after all my testing it’s remained solid but if that changes I’ll let y’all know. I definitely think it’s way overpriced though 🍻🍻
@@Stassa23 honestly man, it feels super cheap too, just doesn't feel good. I knownits a small knife, but the stop pin is so so so small, if that was upgraded I believe the hole feel would be different. I'll probably end up selling it...probably for 70, the right price
@@MASHEDMallow11 the Kizer Assassin feels a lot more robust and yea I see what you mean on the Original’s stop pin
