  • Here's how I set up my snowmobile for ice fishing on my recent trip to Lake Cascade, Idaho. When out on the ice fishing it's important to think of safety first and that why I mounted my Humminbird and GPS units, brought a shovel and spudbar to check the ice thickness and added extra lights to the sled. On this particular trip, the shovel came in handy as I had to dig out from a layer of slush.
I also added more power capabilities and shut off switch. These snowmobile mods will help you be more safe and efficient on your next ice fishing trip.

Hey Ross, I've been looking for a good softside ice rode case. Can you tell me what brand yours is?

I want that sled soooo bad!!!!!

There’s literally no power in that sled. You need like an 850 summit or 900 skandic swt if you want to pull 2+ sleds with 3+ guys through 1 foot of snow and 1 foot of slush.

Wrong. Lakes are flat, you don't need to be powering up mountains as much as you need it to be lightweight and air cooled. Towing a sled, which has high floatation and very little friction, is a non factor.

@@NytronX What happens when you hit a 2 foot snow drift with a foot of slush… you definitely need the power, a long track, and paddles. It depends on the lake conditions and how much weight you are pulling. I have a spear shack that I pull that needs the big motor.

@@NytronX Nah from my experience you should opt for the powerful machine with the big track 155”+. The high torque and power allows you to haul a much bigger load through deep snow/slush. I had a tundra 600 that would constantly get bogged down when pulling my gear. (Keep in mind this lake had like 18+ inches of snow and a large slush layer). I up graded to a Pro RMK 163 and it gave me so much more power and flotation. I even had a huge rack I built on the back which I couldn’t do on my tundra.

@@seanwilliams5447 My skandic 900R turbo SWT has never gotten stuck yet. I also had the same problem with my newer Yamaha vk540. The power was so minimal that when I hit slush I would be dead in the water. If I were pulling 1 small shack I’d be fine. I guess people have their uses for them.
