Social media influencer Sabrina Ali posted a viral TikTok video opining that going to a dressy event without makeup is "unacceptable." In this Black Girl Vlog, I'll be addressing the many thoughts I have about this topic (hint: I beg to differ). We'll chat about the evolution and de-evolution of unfair beauty standards, materialism, and more.
TL;DR - Makeup is an ACCESSORY, not a necessity. You don't NEED to wear makeup to be beautiful in ANY setting. :-)

Hey! I'm 25 btw. The birthday make up and weaves feels like what you were saying for altering your hair for picture day and other special days. For example, graduation day, there are plenty of ways to incorporate the cap with your natural yet we continue to press it or get a weave. It reminds me of people who think that certain hairstyles look childish with natural/curly hair but wouldn't think so if it were done on straight hair. I don't hate the look and I'm not saying people shouldn't do it, do what you want but they should look at why they think that way.
Hey! You are right on track. Do what you want but be thoughtful about doing it. That is actually a constant process - and a constant part of our growth. There are things I used to do that I don't do anymore (and conversely, things I will always do) simply because I paused and asked myself, "why are you doing this?!" As a 46 year-old black woman I consider it an honor and a privilege to be able to get up and just put on me some lip balm and get out of my house my skin is glowing it smooth and silky. Honey that's somebody that's young and obviously has not learned who they are yet in our comfortable and who they are and comfortable in all aspects of their life that's projection. But I do have friends that are almost 50 in saying that same ridiculous line.

This is a very good topic and content. I'll start by saying , it must be more acceptable these days to have your top and bottom hanging out. The self respect went out the door ,but you better have on a full face of makeup. Makeup is definitely a preference but not being fully dressed should be unlawful . In fact , in some countries like Hong Kong, it is disrespectful to wear revealing clothes. This topic about makeup adds to the unrealistic standards of beauty where not being yourself isn't enough . I don't mean wearing makeup is being fake. This is part of the problem with social media these days. Adding to the already body dissatisfaction and low self esteem In both women and men. It carries over to plastic surgery, which use to be mainly for people that were seriously ill . Such as breast cancer or someone that was in a horrific accident and needed plastic surgery. Now it is treated like going to Burger King , let me get a number 12 on BBL and a number 2 for a nose job. It will never be enough . How is makeup going to make a person because they're at an evening event. I've seen some beautiful gowns on women but the makeup ruined the look. I look 10 years older in most makeup looks and this is why I opt not to wear much of it . I feel it is my choice . This is insanity, but great video !

People be looking and still ID me. Especially when I go to the casino. I have a black horror shirt on, shorts, and gym shoes. I’m not trying to impress anyone and too hot to wear makeup, heels etc. IM TRYING TO WIN MONEY 😂😂😂💀 now I do see some women do that there. That’s them. I wear makeup when it’s not hot… my birthday celebration… and that’s really it.
