Cube went from the hood, to fame as a writer and rapper for NWA, had the smarts to know he had to go solo, wrote his own movie, acted in tons of films, broke into the metal genre, back to hip hop, and now has founded his own basketball league... Amazing work ethics and talent
Metal genre swear!?
Ice Cube didn't do Metal. He had a song deaturing Korn, but that's it, I believe. Ice-T, though, fronted the band Body Count.
Privileged black kids do rap and make it. Micheal Irvin just had to put his son in his place. It's the privileged ones trying to fit in and change the culture for money.
This is whats wrong with Hollywood and the media. They want you to think he is from the hood. He is just as white as MJ.
NY rappers always had more push from mainstream media ,radio and major labels but the L.A rappers had access to Hollywood.
The fact that i literally grew up watching are we there yet at a young age then friday and barbershop around 11-12 and then watched Straight Outta Compton in highschool. This man was genius now that he explained it all out like this 🔥🔥
yep same timeline but i found out about his music at around 9-10
Ice Cube is an American icon. Nothin but love for him.
He's loved down here in new Zealand and Australia.. true icon
Bottom line. This man figured out how to keep money 💰 coming in from all directions. Talented, versatile, with a strong work ethic. Cube is a strong role model for generations coming up to learn from.
the guy raps about violent shit, then became a Disney type tough guy,Now it takes him 7 minutes to make a 15 second point. What exactly must I imitate?
@xouleposxoulepos4506 you do you. My point is versatility. If gangster rap didn't make money back then, he WOULDN'T have done it. Any man smart enough to diversify his talent and move between niches and make money from it in all categories is a perfect example of what CAN be done in this country. I'm not a fan of violent rap either. But I am smart enough to know that these rappers did it because of business profits. None of them actually live life according to their lyrics. They live in gated communities and their kids go to great schools. And before you go off on (THEY INFLUENCE VIOLENCE IN THE INNER-CITY) Just stop. It's not the artists fault that moms and dads don't do their jobs raising their children. Point is, anybody can take his blueprint for success and apply it anywhere. In engineering, electrical, law, technology, sports, like Bo Jackson did. Don't be hatter.
@@stephenhickman9502 I really appreciate the time you took to reply.I mean it, n most of it is right. I will respectfully decline to idolize a guy like that though, but he seems harmless
@@stephenhickman9502that's your opinion some say kid rock is bad I like❤kid rock so I understand lol😮by I like ice cube too 🙋🏼♀️
Ice cube was never gangsta. He only acted all his life!
The world wouldn't be the same if "Friday" had never existed.
the exact path he describes, was how I grew up on Ice Cube. My dad loved NWA and I heard them growing up, but I saw Are We There Yet and became a fan as a kid, crazy
I love that Cube made a point to highlight DJ Pooh and give him his flowers… DJ Pooh is a west coast hip hop producer legend and his career accolades don’t get recognized enough.
I was born in 1995. My Ice Cube vortex is that I saw Boyz in the Hood first, Player's Club, Friday, Barbershop, Are We There Yet, his feature on music🎶 "Real N**ga Roll Call"🎵, and that's when I dived into his music. Then started watching a bunch of interviews he did in the 80s and 90s. It went full circle, like a vortex.
I was born in 1979. Being a child of the 80s, and a teenager of the 90s. Perfect timing Mom.
@@No-yv5ixYou lucky sob. I was born 88 and wish I was a late 70s baby. I loved growing up in the 90s, but you had 2 of the best decades to grow up in before hell broke loose in America
Cube is just a smart guy. He’s got a good head on his shoulders. He’s kind and hard. He’s passion and excitement. His music is always 💪
All Cube needs to do now is a Country album and he's hitting literally all audiences 😂
He has the voice
I'd listen. He could totally compete with Kenny Rogers on that sexy growl voice
It'd be hilarious if he made a country album but with his regular lyrics about hood violence and corruption.
I love Ice Cube. He is such a shining example of how to be a decent human being and a smart artist❤
Hard ass worker too. How was he not stressed, 1990 he did his first solo album… 1991 he did Boyz N The Hood, he had the “Kill at Will” EP AND his son was born. Then 1992 he starred in “Trespass” AND released his album “Death Certificate” THENNNN IN 1993 he RELEASED his next album “The Predator” HOW THE HELL DID HE NOT GET STRESSED OUT
Seeing ice cube in that life jacket for the first time in the commercials was a cultural shift
Ice Cube stays true to himself and wants everyone to enjoy his music and movies. All while being a cool guy who can be just badass as hell.
Thats exactly how i was introduced to ice cube, with are we there yet, im 28 years old now. Because of that i hear all his music being older i can undertand everything better, to watching straight out of compton high as hell. The dudes a legend
I'm 32, I absolutely love boyz n the hood. I remember watching it for the first time when I was 7.
I saw boys in the hood the 1st night it came out in the theatres ONLY because we went to see TERMINATOR 2 and it was sold out. Got really lucky as it turned out..
Friday came out when I was 10. We had it on VHS
In the late 80's my friends and I used to go to the local head shop in San Bernardino county California to get the latest Metallica album. Which was the only place you could get underground music at that time. So one day we were looking for our speed metal bands cassette tape, and right next to Metallica was a new stack of cassette tapes that had "NWA" printed on the front. So we bought it. Four white guys from the Inland Empire drove around all day listening to Ice Cube saying the most craziest shit we had ever heard with Dr Dre's original beats and sound effects....we loved it! Still love it to this day. So original and out of pocket at that time. Ice Cube was a trail blazer. And now is a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. Very smart guy....
I can definitely see why Cube has been married to his wife for decades. He's a really good guy!
"Bye Felicia!"
I vividly remember being at the record store in 1990. On the wall, I saw the poster for Ice Cube's first solo record, Amerikkka's Most Wanted. I remember looking at his scowling face and thinking, "That guy's an angry scary dude." Flash forward to his family comedy film "Are We There Yet." ha. Amazing.
Don't also forget that ice cube is also went to college and is an ARCHITECT...
I love Icecube, he's been a huge impact on my life, plus he is one of the best rappers out there still.
5:11 ice cube literally explained how I found out about him perfectly 😭 born in 03 watched “are we there yet” then I watched Friday a lil bit later then I started messing with his music.
Cube is a legend
It’s awesome to see people are reluctant to change like I am but push through it and better themselves. I’m just now getting to the point to where I don’t have to be pushed into change.
People look at me sideways when I tell them cube is my favorite rapper of all time I've listened since the NWA days two of my favorites is "today was a good day" followed by "no Vaseline" and the Friday movies I watch all the time timeless classics
I grew up on cube, loved when he left nwa, with that being said it was ironic and awesome when my daughter fell in love with him thru are we there yet and i had the amazing convo teaching her the origins of Ice Cube mr burn Hollywood burn!!! It was dope to share my favorite storyteller wit my daughter as he and ice T became her fave actors. Watching svu we went thru the same shyt. Def amazing to share different levels of hiphop culture with ya kids.
The goat man. Exact what he sayin done been through it from are we there yet, are we done yet, barbershop, friday, barbershop 2 and all his music man one of the goats man.
I was a kid when I first saw Ice Cube on "Are We There Yet". After that I heard his music and I was hooked till this day🎉
Haven’t watched the full pod yet, but god I hope they talk about him doing stuff in Rock and with Korn. That’s what got me hooked on Cube. My dad was a huge Korn fan and he’d play Children of the Korn and then that’s what got him hooked on Cube and then Are We Done Yet comes out when I’m 5 and I got sucked in that vortex he talked about. I’m a white kid from Ohio and know nothing about Compton but I love everything about Cube and what he came from and everything. Listening to old NWA to No Vaseline, to Boyz, Friday, Korn, Dr. Frankenstein, Are We There Yet, and so on just makes Cube one of my favorite artists in the world for anything he does. I listen to him so much and I don’t have to come from where he came from to live him and I think that’s so cool. Joe’s pretty cool too lmao
never knew that about dj pooh. i might have to go spotify over this one
John Singleton Seemed Like A Good Guy
Living legend
dope to see cube give dj pooh his props .. he is so very underrated
If you’re an English teacher and your students come up to you and ask “why do we have to learn this?” Point to guys like Ice Cube as a success story.

Gotta show Cube love he’s did it all & continued to grow. Just think if Pac was on with Cube too, two living legends
Man is a genius!
Ice cube is one of the celebrities I have upmost respect for
I was the kid that loved Are we there yet ! What a time !
Dude he literally described how I found him my mom took me to are we there yet, then I saw Friday at 9 and when I was 10 mom and uncle showed me the music
Love this
I loved Ice Cube from no Vaseline b4 I knew why he sung that track. I'm 43. And loved him from the movies too. XXX 😂 he's a cool cat. 😎
GENIUS!!!!!!!
My nephew who's in HS just told me Ice Cubes is his favorite rapper right now
I was in ‘91 so my very 1st film was Friday the very year it came out… I was 4. He right, we were young in the 90s knew every word and growing up on that made me go backwards in time to find NWA stuff (a little before my birth). Now I have a 12 yr old that know knows who he is back to beginning and she discovered that with “Fist Fight” 😭
Facts my kids 9 and 5 and they love ice cube
Are we there yet is so good me and my siblings would watch it weekly
Haiti Here. Yoo. I grew up on NWA and to truly understand this 7min clip, gotta know it was GODz plan with IceCube. Amazing interview. Merci
Cube keep trying to tell joe it was him and DJ Pooh who wrote friday but joe don't wanna hear about DJ Pooh
Who the hell is Dr Pooh
@@katek7891 yeah, who the hell is Dr. Pooh
@@katek7891google ! Smh
I love this guy.
I found his music then Friday and il never look back ....but we do need another Friday with all the cast 😂😂 crAIG smokie and day-day all together YES!!
Well Craig's dad is dead now I believe...
@@canadianguy-nl1xw about 9 of them are actually dead now ,Craig's dad ,roach, deebo it's sad how many to be honest
“Are We There Yet?” Was a classic movie for my generation! My grandmother took me to see “Are We Done Yet?” As well!
First album I ever bought on vinyl when I was 11 was straight out of Compton. Oh, I'm from London lol
1995 my best bros family broke apart. I'd go there before school. Soon as you hit the porch all you could here was music blasting. I remember it because "eff the police" on 11 deep in Appalachia is hard to suppress. The early 90s was a Renaissance.
lol that’s exactly what happened to me. I am 23, I started with AWTY then I discovered Today was a Good day, then I discovered NWA😂
I remember having a bootleg DVD of Are We There Yet? and My God that was one of my favorite movies 😂. The Satchel Paige talking bobblehead was so damn dumb but funny too 💀
Legend!!!
is it wrong that one of the first times i watched Friday I was in elementary school 😂😂
He's a business man!
so DJ POOH is the guy that DEBO knocked the fuck out.
I discovered cube when I was 5 first time seen friday😂 now I’m 26 discovered boyz n the hood when I was 7 than N.W.A than are we there yet
Love his perspective. Interesting that his view is that he wanted to invite a larger audience in and he felt like he should provide something for his younger fans, it wasn’t that he wanted more money. It worked out cause he wound up making a path for kids to slowly become fans. I like how he doesn’t seem concerned with market size or earnings on the movies he just wanted to give something to the kids
To be honest I loved are we there yet. Think that’s an underrated movie but great storyline ❤️
Love Ice Cube PERIOD!
And i got to grow up.with him through it all
Ice Cube should run for President. Guys a genius. All star in everything he touches. One of my wishes befor I die is to meet him. Just once.
Are we there yet? is my favorite movie ❤❤❤❤
Dope he considered the kids 😅 🫡 number 2 of AWTY was dope too never did nun corny lol big salute to cube keep speaking truth as well🗣️
I shook the worm and the hook
Luved Cube since 88 just a Ultra Talented Man 6:15
Horny Little Devil and Cave Bitch are two of my favorite Ice Cube songs of all time!!!
Take Cave Bitch and flip the race and tell me if you’re ok with it?
Cube is one person in Hollywood I respect, he doesn't bow to all the woke BS, he knows the truth and refuses to back down from it. I just pray that he is saved and gives God all the glory.
My favorite rapper of all time💯
Plus Cube did a movie in the triple X franchise
Ice Cube still reminds me of Sweet in GTA san andreas.😄😄
When he started doing family movies he basically became a household name and everyone wanted to know more about him
I like Ice Cube, Boyz N The Hood is my favourite when it comes to films within that genre.
westside connection is cubes best, and of course friday..
Friday talked about weed before I started smoking. People tend to forget.
Respect to tha Goat for Mentioning Dj Pooh, he dont get enough Praise..
"Jackpot, motherfucka!" - Cube
Fuccin Legend !! Master Of All Talents!! 🤙🏽
My first my ice cube album was death certificate. I was 10
Ugh, I would have gotten in so much trouble if my mom found out I watched Friday when I was 12 🙄
It’s funny seeing Cube smiling
Great fkn question before I even listen to the answer I would say Joe Rogan gets his curriculum from biggies "juicy" Intro.
Sometimes all u need is ppl who believe in u and push u. Ur fam, ur fans, a random person who sees u for who u r. 😊
Man... I learned English because this dude!! Pac, Snoop, short. I wanted to know what they were saying on his lyrics. And of course. Boys in the hood was very popular in México in the 90's...
That's dope.
All I know is that NWA changed the World overnight. This guy is so charismatic and talented.
Meh. "Whacho little ass doin watchin Friday?"..... Because he doesn't realize kids do what they're not suppose to? That's real G right there...lol
Cube a genius.
Absolute legend
Ice Cube got that joe rizz
Don't hate the playa all, hate the game.....🤣🤣🤣
Ice Cube might have the best resume theatrically of all time. No misses, wrote, produced and starred?? Name some others like that I wanna know!
Nobody realizes he did action as well in Anaconda with Jon Voight and Jennifer Lopez
The people hating because he doesn't act like a ganster all the time, are just fuckin idiots. Plenty of yall work jobs you don't even like, I like my job and sometimes I hate it to. Pretty sure it'd be more fun to make millions of dollars to be in afew kids movies. Money is the motivation because it opens up new doors. Sometimes you have to change it up, whether it's for business reasons, or just to better yourself.
Should’ve asked him about Ghosts of Mars.
gets talked into doughboy, nails it. then makes Friday!? SHEEESH
