  • In the macro world, it's easy see what happens when a bullet hits an object. But what happens at the nanoscale with very tiny bullets?
A Rice University lab, in collaboration with researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and its Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies decided to find out by creating the nanoscale target materials, the microscale ammo and even the method for firing them.
In the process, they gathered a surprising amount of information about how materials called block copolymers dissipate the strain of sudden impact.

would be awesome if there was a material that counteracted incoming objects by how much force they have on impact, so you could put your hand through this material at slow speeds, but a bullet would not get through.

On Rice University's site it says it could be used for bullet proof vests....If it needs to be that thick, it sure wouldn't be flexible or light.

Lol he basically said they discovered this material by accident. It's great though. Glad to see they're putting it to good use

Extraordinary! It will be WAY COOL if they can figure out how to manufacture this material on a large scale!

well if they can make it thin enough where the point it wont be too thin and thick enough so it would be bulletproof, they can make it light enough. That solves the lightweight problem and if they only put it in certain areas like the upper chest, mid-stomach, front thighs, etc. it can fix the flexibility problem. Sorta like BATMAN's suit

We already did...they showed it working, they just don't know why it does.

Let's see test in the real world before judging the effectiveness of this material to absorb mechanical energy.

The did test it first, now there trying to figure out how it works...because they know it does.
