It's kinda hard to watch this without feeling a tinge of bittersweetness in my heart. Knowing that Darren is leaving the band...although a noble thing to do since he's being there for his family...but still a very hard realization.
Mutemath I have to tell you something about how I got to know you: 2009 I've been on a student exchange from Germany to Wisconsin for some weeks and I've visited a random shop in Madison where your music was playing in the background. Nearly instantly I was asking the owner of the shop which band was playing on that music. Before I have never heard of you and since that very particular coincidence I'm happy again and again that I was able to listen to many of your songs since I still don't know anyone here in Germany who knows your songs. Your voice and emotion in the music just kicks ass - thank you! Would look forward to a response :)
1/3. The previous guitar player was replaced, by someone better. There will be no replacement for Roy and Darren. I've been listening to Mutemath since some members were in Earthsuit.
He doesn't say why...At least Roy was very clear about it (family) but all Darren said was "It's time to move on from MM" one could only wonder. I guarentee it was not an issue with music/material as the band/sound has always evolved. Some musicians leave the band when they cant agree musically speaking...I don't think this was the case with Darren. MM is at their prime right now and for Darren to leave right before the release of Play dead and of an amazing tour is pretty strange if you ask me.
At least Roy didn't leave the band 100%...only touring. He said he would be down for creating more MM albums albums in the future...but DK??? He said it was the similar things to Roy however I don't know why he's stepping away completely. I don't think it was creative differences. It's really hard to say.
Touring around the world is more and more demanding the older you get. Could be just the fact that he didn't want to go through it again and be apart from his family.
He has a new baby, and family is always first. It could have been time for him to take a step back. We don't really "need" to know, it's more like we want to know to find some sort of closure. It's like your parents just divorced and didn't explain to you why. But it's really not our place to ask or know. All we can do is wish them all the best and hope they can keep creating music we love in and outside of Mute Math.
He is not permanent, but he is filling in for the tour. His name is Dave "Hutch" Hutchinson. Was the drummer in Earthsuit, and was basically/essentially replaced by Darren King. He was a huge influence on Darren.
"You want to cheat death but you can't hold your breath forever"

kicking ass again!

so awesome!
Just found out Darren left MuteMath--what a bummer! Just got tickets to see them in Brooklyn
Only 1/3 of the guts of this group is left. This is sad. Tears are coming from my heart. This is pain. I literally am crying.
Don't diss Greg! He was a key member as well. So 1/4 of the band is left.

From talking to Roy (the best musician in the band) and from simply observing, Greg was/is more technical, while Todd was a bit better rock guitarist.
The replacement's keyboard playing is in a different world compared to the previous guitar player. He is a more disciplined artist.
Darren...
2 and a half weeks!!
watching this and knowing there is a MUTEMATH without a Darren and without a Roy 💔💔💔
Very cool.
3rd view! so excited 🙏
0:19 They're sampling Paperboy?
I prefer the sound of this to War.
Why did Darren have to leave....FUCK!!!!!!
WHY DID HE LEAVE !!! I HAVE TO KNOW !!

👍👍
Amazing.
But does it mean they will release one more single soon?
2clickswest with the album releasing two weeks now, that seems highly unlikely
Okay but why is Darren leaving mutemath? I heard that he was leaving but I never heard why he's leaving....
They haven't said
So who's new drummer??

The tables have turned
