I'm sorry but Devon Miles was absolutely in the right here. Graduation is a serious moment of reflection, but it is also a moment of celebration for accomplishment and the fast and upbeat drum beat was setting that mood. The slow version sounded like a somber dirge, unfit for graduation.
This movie set the tone for all drummers in this era. The drummers in my marching band would often emulate Nick Cannon here, and they totally sounded awesome.
our bandmaster always says:"drums are always meant to be louder than other instruments, because drums are the pulses of a band, without it,the music would go kablooey"
Ninja Game I noticed it the first time I seen this movie. Which, ironically, was my senior year during concert band season. So of course I experimented lol
We did this at our seniors graduation, except with Pomp and Circumstance. Me and the other snare would keep going back and forth playing different things.
That part right there was though.I'm doin this song for my 8th grade graduation and ours aint gonna sound like that. BEST GRADUATION VERSION OF "I BELIEVE I CAN FLY " EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lol me and my friends did this because we were playing the song it was at a school concert it was so funny because we got the same reaction except the band stop playing and it was like we did a cadence
@Picperfectpercussion REAlly Good point! Uhmmm I kinda think that it might be the Toms making those sounds... POSSIBLY.. idk? havent played Percussion or anytime of drum in 5 years..
I love how the director after he see's the crowd getting into it is like "well alright then lets do it!"
As a kid I thought this was the coolest thing since Space Jam lol
Ebiye Udo-Udoma ikr
Same here Space Jam the best cartoon movie in that era
I love the respect and love the rest had for him to go along with his farewell shenanigans!
If something like this had happen at my graduation, wasnt NOBODY gonna get they diploma! lol!!
i tried this once. i had a marker thrown at my head.. FML
AJ - Roy I did twice
*Flashbacks to Whiplash*

Anybody Know In Real Life Everybody Would've Been Fucked Up After That Performance Even If It Was Good Lol
Tbh the band director was asking for it lol by having marching percussion at the performance lol I mean what did he think was gonna happen 😂😂
You’re right. loved that Devon did this. It also really setup his character.
@@SupremeKai_Omniverse why tf is every word capitalized in that whole sentence. Jit can't type??
It’s not that he was right or wrong… But I don’t think championship band instructor would arrange such a boring and featureless piece for graduation
I LOVE THIS SCENE. The remix to I believe I can fly is amazing when sped up by Devon Miles.
I remember back in 3rd grade, I chose to play violin. I wish I learned how to play the drums now. Drumline was one of the best movies I've ever seen.
this scene never gets old. :))

lol not true our band director said the opposite the drum is the pulse sure but playing too loud would throw some people off beat
bass is the soul.

Ninja Game I noticed it the first time I seen this movie. Which, ironically, was my senior year during concert band season. So of course I experimented lol
This shook me for the longest lol
Dayon Graves I’m still baffled by this lol. It’s low key wanting to ask my old band director why we couldn’t have this.
