#ChrisThile #GillianWelch - Zábava
Even the mandolin didn’t know it could do that.
So funny and true .
Hahahaha
👏👏👏👏 😄😄
Fast but is it as fast as Ricky Skaggs doing Rawhide? Now we are talking
For the first 83 years of its life, that mandolin had no idea what it was capable of.
Y'know Chris, they're doing wonders with decaf coffee now...
Lol!!!
You've gotta professionally record this version of Hard Times. It's amazing!!
What an astonishing performance. My mind was doubly boggled when he ventured up beyond the twelfth fret into what I think of as no-man's land tiny fret-spacing world, and shredded up there as well. The man's talent never ceases to amaze. Thank you Mr. Thile... your spirit is such an inspiration.
That Lohr signed Gibson was a good investment. It takes someone of his talent to bring out its' best.
its fucking crazy to see someone so casualty crush an instrument like this. This dude is a monster player and arranger.
ABOVE 12TH FRET!!!!!!!!!!!
yes. beyond the 12th fret is just jaw dropping, but I think all in all, just the arrangement is most astonishing. Not that we hae to rank them. He does so many things well. Wow.
The bell was ringing in the same key. ❤
I came before for the virtuosity. I came back for the solace. If I close my eyes and imagine he’s playing in my living room, I feel a little bit better.
Mandolin Orange , Yes .
@@jeffhrsn OK, here's a stab, but I have SO many favorites. I think most would cite Waltz About Whiskey as maybe their most well-known and beloved - and I am totally in that camp too - but my top 3 are: Cavalry, Jump Mtn. Blues, and One More Down.
Old Times and companions, their cover of Spanish Boots of Spanish Leather, Hey Stranger...
Basically anything that Emily sings on
MO and WJ's mentioned by Chris Thile - well deserved recognition. . .....
Love the song, but could you play a little faster? What, are you just learning that instrument?
🤣😂🤣😂
If he keeps this up, he'll be something one day.
;) Great comment Patrick!
@Iliana Roca sad that you can't tell he's joking. What it's like to be like you?
@@bnellie83 There's always that one person who doesn't get it. I've wondered the same thing lol.
I don’t know how I missed this 3 years ago but I’m glad I found it today. Probably the greatest mandolin player to ever hold a pick and in a class with geniuses like Mozart as an overall musician. It’s a pleasure and honor to hear him play.
Chris Thile embodies such a stunning combination of artistry, soul, and fierce technical mastery. Such a joy to hear him.
I'm happy he's on this planet with us.
He is not human, my theory was alien but now I’m leaning AI.
My 3-year-old saw this and asked "Does he have braces?" He remembers your Tiny Desk Concert!
I have listened to this many times and you still make me cry every time. Thanks Chris!
Check out the live performance of this at newport festival .
The skill. It's no newsflash, we all got the memo decades ago, but he still manages to astonish me every time. A force of nature.
Would love to hear from the Wailin' Jennys!
That bass rhythm shift in the chorus is incredible
I mean. He hits every note.
Chris isn’t a musician he’s a magician. He doesn’t play music he exudes magic
Oh boy that was nice on the eardrums
The particular thing about this performance is that it far transcends a mere display of technical mastery (that’s a big “mere”, I know, but, relatively speaking, mere nevertheless). Rather, it’s a performance of great soul-satisfying depth. Somehow the meager circumstances, an impromptu solo performance at home recorded on a cellphone, make it all the more appealing.
This
that mandolin is made of firecrackers
Brandy Carlisle! Love to hear her here on CZcams or Facebook!
Mandolin Orange YES!
My literal ear worm for a week!
National/Global treasure
Chris - please shoot your videos in horizontal mode - for us to see more! Love you guys!
Thanks Chris. We are so lucky!
And the crowd goes wild...
No mandolins were harmed in the making of this video.
No, but that one is pretty tired now.
@@davidkobb987 It probably asked him for a cigarette afterwards.
Most excellent. I admit I thought upping the tempo might come off sounding rushed but on some super human level Chris manages to sing out leisurely and relaxed while playing mandolin at mach speed. Just amazing.
I am amazed. Awesome and much enjoyed! Would love to see your mandolin also if possible..... Just amazing!
I don’t know who you are but thank you for that.
Chris sure is one stellar human being.
Thank you for sharing your genius gift which provides a nexus to bond with my musical sons. Jim H Morton, IL
Thank you from Corpus Christi, TX.
Oh this old classic: *shreds*
HOLY MULEY COW!! Thanks, Chris. We miss you here in Minnesota. Hope you are back soon.
Chris, thank you. If you get bored, please, more.
played at .75 speed, it sounds pretty good too, and more physically possible.. lol. really amazing
The cheerful intro alone was enough to improve mood, even before the lightning-fast strings. Definitely not "too fast", just a perfect speed.
.... I wish I could send Chris a mental hug for every time I've been blasted away by his music. Maybe I should just start sending him a dollar instead :D
Ditto!
✌️❤️ from Asheville NC
Oh, thanks so much. Be well, stay well.
chris, the number of folk you’ve given the courage to get out of bed this morning. bless ye.
Thanks for your uplifting spirit.
If only svery mandolinist in lockdown could come out of it sounding like this! Whoa, fantastic Chris ... thank you soooo much
Amazing talent.
Good lord, he is a treasure to music!
Working out all the angst and letting the steam out of the pressure cooker, I get it. Here on the remote southern coast of Oregon we get to spend our self isolation outside on the beach or by a campfire with our friends safely across the flames. You are welcome to come harmonize by my fire any time.
YYYEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
I am now convinced...you are simply not human. Much respect, Chris. Thank you.
Sweet! Thanks for the joyful noise!
Wonderful …. thank you Chris
LLoyd Loar never envisioned Chris Thile comin' along...
Hello Chris, you got me, you got me..... from the first note from your mandolin and the first tone out of your mouth, when you began to sing! Incredible, absolutely incredible.... God bless you and stay safe and well too!
Always speechless with this guy!
Gorgeous. I wish you would play with Billy Strings!
Bless You Lad. “Hard Times” reveal one’s character.
Unbelievable. Would love to hear the whole Live From Here band play it together in this style.
That would be rllly sick!!
@@banjoboston6413 Um, I can send it to you from the 2017 show, your pick (It is blue) I suppose "friend" Kevin Horton.
@@kevinhorton8617 It's a different version though, not this uptempo.
Magic! Thanks so much Chris.
Genious keep on doing your great music ✌️😁
thank you Chris!
Thank you
Very intricate- like diamonds hitting the strings....
Can’t help but love you Chris.
You always did lift me up. Then when I moved to Nashville I was briefly a neighbour of Noam also, I met him first when he was rescuing an abandoned dog form our local dog park. I hope both of you and all of yours are well.
How does this only have 146K views?
Thank you Chris for giving us this amazing cover- I’ve been hooked. The sped up tempo worked incredibly well. Cheers from NYC- hope all is well
I felt much better after listening to this. Thanks, Chris.
I can't even hear that fast!
Good one!!
So heart warming seeing the artists stranded like the rest of us, reaching out. Enough walls already. And, I do love watching Chris teaching mandolins how to play.
A Live From Here video just popped into my feed this morning. I have spent the day falling down it’s rabbit hole. Thanks for my new favorite channel.
Welcome aboard!
Keep going! and Welcome!
Ahoy!
#LivefromHome is a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
Always floored by your skills Chris!!!
Love you for doing this, Chris. To quote author/CZcamsr and fellow beacon of internet wholesomeness John Green (who was quoting Robert Frost), "The only way out is through, and the only way through is together." Cheers.

What a talented guy! I wish you Rolls-Royce money and a paupers heart.
So good.
Nice...thanks.
Can’t even comprehend that solo at 2:40. My hero!!
I was put off by the speed first, but I think now that I've heard and seen this, this was the perfect way to play this song in these particular times. Hard times.
Songs in the Key of Clock. So great!
Insane musicianship and love for music 👍🏻👌🏻❤️
Gracious, that was fantastic! Thank you
Thanks Chris
Bravo, you beautiful human being! Thanks Chris.
WHAT A BLAST !!!
inspiring-this was the guy who made me pick up a mandolin and learn it. form a bluegrass band. he's good
Thank you, Chris. Hugs from far away.
I just stumbled across this last night and I must have listened to it twenty times since then. Incredible.
One of the Best songs everrrr!!!!!
That was crazy
Whew! This is so good!
Thank you!
WOOOOO GO ON CHRIS, GO TALK WITH THAT MANDO YOU MANDO MAN
I got dizzy watching this! Such a virtuoso, breathtaking.
That was soooo amazing
You inspire me. Bought a mandolin 4 years ago to learn “soon or never” and will continue to learn the music and follow you
