The people financing the game backed off after the controversy and the studio couldn't make it even If they wanted, i think it was Konami
And it's being remade
Now in my personal opnion, the project stayed dead, the game will be clearly a US propaganda game

Fun fact: Blackwater were the direct inspitation for the Merryweather PMC in Grand Theft Auto.

If you've ever played the Mercenaries games, the PMC in those games, Executive Operations, was based on the South African Executive Outcomes, which was one of the first, if not the first, modern PMCs. If you go back even further, in Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2, the Pinkertons are one of the main antagonists, in real life, they were Abraham Lincoln's bodyguard detail before the Secret Service was a thing, srike breakers, and a dozen other awful things, and exist even today under the umbrella of Swedish PMC Securitas AB. In fact, the modern Pinkerton agency tried to sue Take-Two because they didn't like the way they were portrayed in-game, and angry they didn't get a cut of the game's profits.

honestly i'm suprised the in game characters weren't always in the C-clamp shooting stance wearing those goofy ass skull bandanas with bicycle helmets and just always talking in Military Jargon.
I had this, even at 6, being italian and having no idea what Blackwater was, I instantly realized it was bad and went back to Battlefield: Hardline.

I think that Zombie Studios was the original team behind the first version of the "classic" Rogue Warrior, another game based on a cuestionable license.
The game was passed to Rebellion Studios, and they finished and the rest is history (?)
The living room shot with the doge was amazing.
I love the use of the Airfield music from Splinter Cell: Conviction when talking about the real events of BlackWater, it matched very well.

Fun fact about blackwater: Their CEO, Eric Prince, is Betsy Devos's brother. He also tried to make an unironic slave army for the UAE to fight in the Yemeni civl war by promising Columbian mercenaries huge payouts and immediately stole their passports when they landed in UAE and never paid them. Their trainers were also militia members of Rwanda, some of which supposedly took part in the genocide. Hooray.

"If your video game is an officially licensed attempt to create positive press for actual war criminals you need to reevaluate why you're doing what you're doing" -- This is like most of the military shooter genre and any movie that has the US military in it.

Oh boy, I just remembered that I got this game for Christmas one year, and....yeah. No shovelware I've ever received for my Wii came close to Blackwater. I remember popping in the disc, and literally 5 minutes in, my Xbox got a "cant read disc error" and the game refused to work again. Mind you, the game was BRAND NEW! I kinda have to thank my Xbox for saving me from playing the game any further. Before watching your review, I knew the game was bad, but wow I didn't know it was this bad!

as someone who is not american, i find it at least strange to make games about mercenary companies and REAL that did atrocities, it's like a russian company making the game about wagner group or call of duty black ops putting the CIA as an american heroine
Black Ops DOES paint the CIA as American heroes unfortunately. It criticizes them in the same breath but I don't believe it does so harshly enough.
