Gnaraloo Station to Carnarvon Ep.69 - Travel Australia

  • Well after three glorious nights in our shack, we sadly packed everything back into the van and headed north to Gnaraloo. We pulled into the 3 mile camp, where we chose to set up at the site called ‘The Lagoon’. It was a nice semi sheltered spot and you could swim / snorkel straight out front. We walked down to the famous Tombstones surf break and watched all the kite and wind surfers having a play around.
    It was surprising to see how busy the camp was! A very popular spot for surfers, thats for sure. Cost wise, its $40 a night for 2 people, which seems a tad pricey for what was there, but they did have great toilet blocks with hot showers. We felt there wasn’t really much there for us, so the next day we continued north to check out Gnaraloo bay.
    We arrived nice and early at 7:30am, towing our van behind us. The track was fine and no real difficult bits. Amz jumped in for a snorkel while Kurt & Rusty watched from the shore. It definitely had some bright corals and abundance of fish whizzing around. On the way back south, we pulled in to see the shipwreck of the ‘Korean Star’. Not much left of the wreck, but a pile of rust. What was cool was, as you see the wreck, walk down to the left and you’ll see a cave. Inside the cave is the old boiler, which looks pretty cool!
    Korean Star
    The boys did a spot of fishing off the rocks, while Amz and Shenaid explored the rugged cliffs. No fish were caught, but we saw a massive pod of 20 Dolphins swimming along the coast. We eventually made it back down to Quobba, where we perched ourselves right next to the lighthouse to soak up some phone reception for a while. We camped at Point Quobba for a couple of nights, reminiscing on our weeks adventure.

    So beautiful out west! Can't wait to get there myself. Thanks so much for sharing guys!

  • @WesternAustraliaNowAndThen

    If you are there at the right time you can catch some whopping big whiting off that seaweed bank at Quobba. The bait is just under your feet, poddy worms in the seaweed. Great stuff as usual. Hope the wild weather coming in doesn't cause you any hassles.

    That's quite a plaited pony tail Amy. Kurt, ever had goat on a spit? Need plenty of salt. Apparently water or snow are better mediums to ski on than sand. Out of interest are the stations named after native place names? Was the tailor you caught good eating? Amy, your snorkelling shots need to be longer to qualify with Jacques Cousteau, but I gotta tell you, you give him a run for the money. What about the star on Kurt's orange space suit - what was that about? See - I do watch the entire video! Looking forward to the next instalment guys - thanks again, always a joy to watch where you go and what you do.

    • @Sparkysontheloose
      @Sparkysontheloose  Před 5 lety +2

      So the star is to keep things family friendly hahah if that makes sense. Amz loves her snorkeling and loves Ningaloo reef, our next spot is back to Warra haha. The tailor was beautiful as it was fresh and not frozen also being cooked the same day helps. Not sure about the names mate as every station has multiple name changes throughout history. Would love to try goat on the spot but nowhere sells it around here, strange as all you see is goats. Might have to catch my own 🤷. Cheers for watching the whole ep 😎🤙

    Can i ask the black mast is it for your wifi and phone. The video great. I love the way you have stable driving video. It shows the roads and tracks. You can see it on your faces you are having fun. Thanks Russell

      Cheers Russell, the mast is my beach rod with the NightHawk in a bag on top. The NightHawk is a portable hotspot on its own Telstra plan. This method is great for getting reception. You can thank the new GoPro for the stable footage.

      You come up with great ideas. Its one way to double use something. I went and bought some beaters off a electric mixer. Just the beaters. Odd ones. I am going to use my battery drill to help me cook and drive down the legs on the van and put the screw bolts for tent pegs. I been watching youtube how to fix a sandblast gun. I going to use it to fix the old van. Its not bad underneath but a clean of springs a few cross rails. Then i going to paint it. Its going to look great. I feel proud from you. Your giving a great out look in life. Do everything. Russell.

      I seen on Leyland brothers a water pipe tank. I am going to make one for grey water. To increase waste storage. They did one to increase fresh water. Just cheap pipe with screw top and tap.
