The egg only hatches a chick if the egg is fertilised. Generally, the eggs they lay are not fertilised. Chickens quite often eat their own eggs, other chickens eggs and have even been known to eat other chickens! It is also quite common for them to mate with their own siblings. Chickens have no morals. This, my dear, is nature.
