    Been using one a while on various consumer audio gear. No problems, no hum, residual distortion under .05% - better than I expected.

    to disable the beeper: power off the unit, hold in the selection knob and power back up. beeper will remain disabled unless/until you perform the same sequence to re-enable it.

    can this provide two different waveforms at the 2 channels or a single type at both channels? and how much it costed?

    Thanks for the interesting test/review John. I would be wanting to use the unit for AM/FM receiver alignment and have downloaded the FY3200S manual to investigate further. However I am unclear as to whether the ASK/FSK modes allow an external modulating voltage to linearly modulate the Generator in the traditional manner, or they only allow distinct shifts between 2 amplitudes/frequencies depending on the mode? Also, what is the nature of the internally stored AM/FM waveforms - is the modulating frequency on them at 400Hz or 1kHz or similar suitable for use in AM/FM receiver alignment? Regards, Mark.

    So, this would be okay with an isolation transformer and a genuine ground?

    I bought one that arrived this morning. The display lights up, but nothing else works. No beeps, no output from front or rear sockets, just 'nothing' but a bright, blank display. I've sent a message to the supplier, let's see how long it takes to get a response? And yes, I looked at it on the scope and even with no signal generated by it there was noticeable mains hum, especially when I turn it off.

      @JohnAudioTech  Před 5 lety

      Let us know how they treat you with the claim. I'd open it and be sure the supply is fully connected since there are multiple rails used. Loss of one of the logic voltages may make it act dead.

    • @LeslieAB30
      @LeslieAB30 Před 5 lety

      @@JohnAudioTech John, They did ask me to check the rails. I don't mind but I feel it inappropriate for a customer to do fault finding on a new unit. I found +5v, -12v, but no +12v. I have informed them of this .. I await their decision.

      I agree but it is easy to make a simple fix rather than shipping stuff back and hope the seller is reliable and honest. Hopefully they don't give you any friction.

    Hello John
    Excellent presentation which was very useful to me
    I ask you if you then did the review and saw the Tube Premamplifier that appeared at the beginning of the video.
    I would be very interested and curious to see it or buy it but I don't have any contact information from you
    Greetings

    If that 58VAC is un protected it can be a KILLER. Investigate to see where it's coming from and correct it for a video.

    • @JohnAudioTech
      @JohnAudioTech  Před 6 lety

      I just watched it. It is a good mod but a lot of effort for this thing. I guess he needed a reason to float the outputs. I would rather ground them since most equipment (scope lead sheilds) are grounded anyway.

    Yup damaged my iPhone7 that was on the lab table. That 58VAC is coming out of this piece of shit even if it is powered off! 2 leads on the table and off we go. Only noticed it because of this tingling sensation on my skin... Now is there anything that can be done to stop this mains leakage or do I just toss this into a trash bin?

    • @JohnAudioTech
      @JohnAudioTech  Před 5 lety +2

      Tie the shield of the output lead to earth ground. You can also use an isolation transformer on the mains.

  • @CoolDudeClem
    @CoolDudeClem Před 6 lety +2

    I'm surprised at how little is inside it. There's probably an option to disable the beeper, or just put some tape across the hole! I'm still using my tablet as an audio signal generator as I have an app for that, it works fine for sine wave output, it's very clean with practically no distortion whatsoever all the way up to 20khz, but square and sawtooth waveforms are terrible on it, it just can't cope.

    • @MarkTillotson
      @MarkTillotson Před 6 lety

      Its a 10 or 12 bit DDS generator from what I can gather, so all you need is crystal, microcontroller, DDS generator chip and output fast opamps, the wonders of direct digital synthesis take care of the S/N and distortion. And yes becase its DDS you'll see the sample rate as steps in the output, but all that is high frequencies, doesn't affect the audio spectrum one bit.

      Well the interface is awful. It needs three knobs, frequency, mode and amplitude and a better display!
