  • Hi friends!!! 🤗 I wanted to share this quick video that I did as a reply to someone on TikTok with a quick history of why people started pasteurizing their raw milk 🥛
I am by no means an expert, but I am happy to share a few things I've learned along the way! 🐮
We choose to drink raw milk for the health benefits 🌿 but I understand why people drink pasteurized milk! I feel there is a lot of (scary) misinformation out there regarding raw milk and want to encourage you to make an educated choice for your family.

I don't think that's true. There's noting inherently wrong with pasteurized milk. And raw milk doesn't contain a whole lot of vitamin D from what I have read. Plus vitamin D is heat resistant so it can be added before pasteurization anyway. The main problem with commercial milk is that it is homogenized, meaning that the structure of the milk is changed causing fat molecules to be suspended in the milk and not able to separate as they did in the old times. It's this molecular change that makes commercial milk less healthy and less natural for our bodies. But NO ONE talks about that.
Pasteurization is very brief and the temperatures don't get very high, and it does protect you from potential food borne diseases. I guess you haven't heard that bovine tuberculosis is still a problem in Michigan for example and is spread by deer. It has nothing to do with unclean conditions. It's better to be safe than sorry, especially with children.
If pasteurization was bad, then making yogurt or cooking with milk would equally ruin your milk. Cooking any food would take away more than pasteurization ever would and no one is afraid to cook their food.
The reason commercial milk is fortified is because they thought it would be a good way to get them into the population, and vitamin D helps calcium be absorbed into your body. So pairing it with milk, which contains calcium, is a good choice.
Also, commercial cows are often fed an unnatural diet which affects the milk quality. And many commercial breeds of cattle produce A1 milk. While a home dairy cow is likely an A2 milk producer. And raw milk is often just fresher. Those types of things can also make your own milk healthier than commercial milk.
The reason your raw milk is healthy, is because it's fresh and non-homogenized. Make sure you get out in the sun so you will get your vitamin D too. So let's not be quick to make people afraid of pasteurization. I hope this helps give you something to think about :)

Knowing the truth of a thing is important so that logical conclusions can be arrived at when making decisions that affect our lives and those of our loved ones. This is particularly important as it pertains to health and nutrition as the “science” is notoriously bad. Thanks for sharing.
