A film...intended to solicit a different number of responses and feelings from a large genre, not intended to solicit a prescribed response as mainstream Hollywood movies usually do with a particular target demographic in mind. It was a great film filled with emotion and empathy that the silver screeners can NOT touch! Bravo Mr. Reeves, Bravo Mr. Phoenix!! I truly love you both! Mr. Phoenix, you, sir will live most endearingly in the fond memories of those of us who truly treasured your very essence, not just the characters you portrayed on film or in movies. I find myself coming back to this video all the time because this is so pure and Keanu’s sweet remembrance towards River and the set makes me appreciate it even more. I remember that in the early 90s interviews people were SO pressed about the homosexual background of the movie. And then to find out it was River’s idea to film the campfire scene... it fills me with joy that Keanu calls this a film rather than a movie, meaning he thinks about it highly. Even if River was on this earth for a short time his artistic talent (and friendship with Keanu) didn’t go to waste, no matter how much time has gone by.

If you haven't got round to watching it yet please do, you won't regret it. I saw it first in 1992 and was already a big fan of River's but after seeing Idaho my love and adoration for him went stratospheric. My God, I was around 13 and coming every week to a video store to ask if they got this movie called My own private Idaho. The owner was reluctant to rent it to me, he said I was too young. I'm not sure how but later he did let me watch it. I guess I was so determined. It was around 1993.
