    Completely sympathize and agree with you Cory about the Garmin. I’m both a pilot and a software developer. This would take Garmin ONE line of code to fix: “if (indicated air speed > 20mph ) then skip the update.”

      Cory, enjoyed, very much, your Bahamian excursion and Garmin Problem. Haven’t heard an update so I have to assume your plane is still in Fl. That is so awful but thankful you were over land the whole time just in case of the worst case scenario. Look forward to your update and meeting up sometime this summer. As I mentioned, I live here in Layton and hangar in Brigham.

    interesting that the "dense" air in the sandwich bag expanded in the less dense air. I'm guessing that there's less forces (since at a high altitude) surrounding the bag causing the bag to expand out like that.

    Watching you tell the story about your engine running rough I could see the troubling look on your face and it reminded me of a recent episode in my 182. Turned out it was my own fault, overleaning on a climb. Got right back to the airport, pulled the cowling, checked compressions, etc. Then realized what I had done. Still I was very nervous for weeks afterward thinking about it. Especially over Lake Tahoe and the SF Bay lol. Time for some life vests.

      G'day Cory thanks for getting back to me. Yeah I should have been more specific. I think It is the track after the laughing bird hotel just as you start the flying footage , the combination guitar work is just great and a great choice of music too, also the track after that is great as well. I'm interested in both. Oh ! and was that a humming bird I saw in the hotel? May be they should call it the Humming bird hotel ! You and Flying Cowboys should try one day to fly here down under! it's a spectacular place to fly also once you get away from most of the cities. Well thanks again for getting back to me. I enjoy your vlogs. cheers mate!

    Love the Garmin rant! But, it looked like your wearing a sailing pfd? With a personal epirb? That being said, a plan and a compass. Always a backup. Also in the "triangle" compass gets squirrelly, stay on heading. Do NOT circle for a signal, that may never come. Also , as you now know, cloud shadows on that water, a whole different ballgame with no visible landmarks. If your flying straight, and that compass spins, STAY FLYING STRAIGHT! Or at least say "Hi"to flight 19 when you see them in the vortex.

    • @flycory
      @flycory  Před 6 lety +2

      haha Eric, love your humor! had me laughing with that vortex comment! Thank you for the tips.. I tried to make the video dramatic, but I did have two backup GPS navigators, as well as the plbs, and talking to ATC... I guess I had three backups if you count my compass and solar navigation skills! hahaha safety third, I learned from Mike Rowe

  • @JeffGillis1
    @JeffGillis1 Před 5 lety +1

    What id did Garmin say about this? Also, did that sandwich inflate like that due to altitude? Normally an inflated sandwich like that would indicate a potential food poison incident as inflation is caused by bacteria contamination releasing gas. Seems you did not get sick so I was curious about the possibility that that happened due to altitude air pressure as you cockpit is not pressurized as they are in commercial aircraft.

    • @flycory
      @flycory  Před 5 lety

      Jeff Gillis I bought the sandwich at sea level and opened it at about 6000. So it was just the altitude.
      Garmin unfortunately was no help. They don’t recommend use of mobile devices as navigational instruments. That’s the word, good or bad...
