The 2 guys in the group are hip hop veterans. El-P the first verse whose also the producer for most their tracks he’s from NY. He has been making some of the best underground critically acclaimed music as a rapper and a producer but never got any mainstream popularity. The second verse is Killer Mike he’s an Atlanta rapper who was part of a collective called Dungeon Family w/ OutKast, Goodie Mob, and a few others. They’ve been dope for years but when they came together they blew up and finally got the popularity they deserved. This comments already turning into an essay so I’m just gonna cut it off from there 😂.
If you haven't check out Fantastic Damage by El-P. One of my all time favorite albums and criminally unknown outside of certain circles. It's very much its own thing, more experimental and abstract than RtJ, but actually has a lot of elements that remain a big part of the RtJ sound. A mixture of noisy oldschool Bomb Squad style production, 80s B-Boy style, grimy New York underground spirit and that unique outside of the box sauce that makes El-P's production so timeless and distinct from the sum of its influences. Some of his wittiest, most poignant, memorable and hilarious lyrics come up on that album. Killer Mike's R.A.P. Music, produced entirely by El-P before they formed RtJ is another great one and really showcases El's versatility as a producer; adapting his heavily NYC inspired sound for an Atlanta rapper and audience without losing any of his signature flavor.
Imagine being alive in 2020 and not knowing who Run The Jewels are...El-P, the first verse, also produced each of their 4 albums. Virtuoso indeed. Great reaction!
Listen to “Ju$t” (featuring Pharrell and Zach de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine fame) if you want a great social commentary like this. If you want braggadocio and silly fun, then “Out of Sight” featuring 2Chainz is great. Enjoyed the reaction!
i love the fact that he's blown away at the incredible bars but he's not even at the ILLEST one coming up at 7:22!! which was written in 2019!! #Killermikedrop
Yo. Gotta say you get it brah. This song really inspired me from jump the day it dropped. Now I appreciate reactions to it. You caught things I missed. Thanks. Stay up.
It’s the tip of the iceberg. I’m jealous that you’re gonna get to hear all these songs for the first time. Most of their stuff is deep, but it’s all great.
Yooo dude sick vid, nothing better than someone who actually listens an catches shit in songs RTJ have such a great discography bro I recommend 'Reagan' by killer Mike which was produced by EL-P
Loved watching you react to this. You should react to “Oh La La” featuring Greg Nice and DJ Premier if you want to hear Run the Jewels a little more relaxed.
Subscribed on this one. Can’t wait for more RTJ. Great breakdown. El-P (LP or El Producto) and Killer Mike have been around for ever. This is next level shit tho. Our education system is really flawed. Education is secondary. We modeled our public school system after Prussia. It’s called nation building. The primary function is to teach you to stand in lines, raises your hand and ask permission to talk, and pledge allegiance to the flag. To be good obedient citizens and believe that we are always the good guys. I’d recommend Ju$t by RTJ, feat. Pharrell and Zach de la Rocha (from Rage Against the Machine).
RTJ the best duo in the Game right now...u got some catchin’-up to do, my guy. Peek ALL their ish! Brilliant!💯 Nice work tho’, u caught hella lines! Excellent breakdown. Subscribed. ❤️✌️ And, I know u remember Gangster Boo.
RTJ!!! 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 You gotta cover Ooh La LA (Dwyck flip w Premier ) before you get sucked into RTJ's previous albums. These 2 have set themselves in the "best rap duo" conversation after this one!
I think of all people who I have seen look at this song (including myself) you were able to glean some raw shit from just the first pass.. subscribing and thanks.
They called the Irish "white n****rs" back in the day, Italians were equated with black people too. Not even going to get into the "yellow menace." I forget who (I think it was Jefferson) but one of the founding fathers wrote an anti-immigration letter that sounds exactly like nazi propaganda and modern day white supremacist talking points about how a certain group was too "swarthy" and culturally incompatible with WASP America, that they'd dilute and destroy white culture and genetics. He was talking about Germans. Fast forward to the 1930s, Hitler's Germany and the holocaust was heavily influenced by the American use of "scientific racism" and Manifest Destiny. The works of Madison Grant were particularly influential on Nazi ideology. They were inspired by the subjugation of Native Americans and saw their "righteous" conquest over Europe as similar, bringing their superior civilization to the uncivilized hordes, particularly Slavic people. Before WWII antisemitism in the US was massive, it was only after the war when the reality of the holocaust became impossible to ignore that Americans swept it under the rug (they still didn't want to take on the burden of Jewish refugees though, even though they were the only country to come out of the war doing better than before and had the most help to give.) Hate is hate is hate, it doesn't have to make sense. "Whiteness" and race in general has always been nothing more than an excuse to keep certain people in power and others under their boot. Nowadays even some south americans are treated as white when it's convenient. "White" can be whatever those in power want it to be, just as long as black americans remain the permanent underclass.
They very political and care free at the same time. If you know killer mikes work outside of rap its that on wax and dope. EL P(first verse) produced basically all their music as well
That I can't breathe line was about Eric Gardner... But the song came out after Floyd 😳😭
The 4 albums by RTJ are all flames. Pick a track, any track, and it will be an experience you won’t forget.

Great reaction!
This is a great first song to hear from them in my opinion. Granted it’s one of their best tracks ever imo, it shows exactly who they are.
I love watching new Jewel Runners being born
Run The Jewels is a monumental musical group. The legend grows over time

React to Pulling the Pin, and Goonies vs ET
My guyyyy 💪
I think you would really like "Light Em Up" by UBI
3:50 Don't forget, in the 1800s it was also the Irish. White folks may be farther down the line, but history shows you're not safe either.
