  • in this video i show how to coil 550 paracord into a donut shape that will be easy to use in the field.550 paracord is used in many bushcraft projects and skills.often the cold will become a tangled mess inside the haversack.with the simple coil weaving i show you can make the 550 into a donut shaped coil that will not tangle inside the haversack.

I keep about 60ft of cord tied up this way, for my bear bag. the extra cord acts as a good weight to sling over a tree limb, to hang your food bag at night. also carries well on the shoulder strap of a haversack to save room inside. and put a bit of cord directly at hand. great technique. keep up the good work bringing information to the masses.

So, it’s basically crochet with no hooks. Neat!

Neat trick! I have done this with electric cords for years, only not in a doughnut! This looks like a good idea for paracord in short lengths. Another good tip Blackie, love these short tip videos. Happy trails!

Ive been crocheting paracord for sometime now. I made a bottle cozy for my ss bottle. Not entirely difficult once you figure out how much slack to leave and do it consistently for a nice look. Much easier to us a crochet tool.

Thanks blackie. I use that trick. Keeps everything very neat. It is time consuming, but I think it's time worth spending to keep your cordage tidy. Another great video with an awesome bushcraft life hack.

That's a cool trick, I do that when I am using tiedown straps for my truck and I have extra hanging off I crochet it together and half hitch the the last looped end, it works great because you can neatly eat up like 8 feet of slack into 1 foot and it won't come undone in the wind. For paracord storage in my pack I use one of those really thin cheapy grocery store brand spring water bottles for my paracord, it works great. You can feed the paracord right into the bottle and it will hold up to about 75', cut a small X into the cap and pull the end of the cord out a inch or so to be grabbed easily and pulled out when needed then screw the cap on, then you can crush the bottle flat and toss it in your pack, it basically makes a paracord dispenser and it never gets tangled and you have a backup water bottle at the same time.

You said about 5 minutes to remake the donut. When I break camp I take everything down while breakfast is cooking. I can wind that bad boy up over morning coffee. Will be even easier with hammock camping. Never been easier to break camp. 20 minutes and I'm already eating. Oatmeal is my favorite breakfast for an on the move weekend. Static camp, now that is bacon and eggs for sure. Blackie a video on how quick you can be on the move with minimal effort would be great. Your fault I've gotten into using a rain fly and a hammock. Sleep great way less to carry.

Here’s another method, and I believe it’s faster. You can pull out as much as you want, as shown in the video, then tighten the wrapping to fit the new, smaller bundle. It can hitch up some, but not too much. And you may have to undo it all to make a new bundle when you want to roll it in, but it’s so much faster I think it’s worth it.
