Coach Coffey I have not used a Bluetooth mc in the set up. I do not expect to have any issues with the Bluetooth mic as long as the receiver of that system is going into something like and iRigor some other approve audio interface

Thank you for your informative videos about the Mevo! I'm exploring the possibilities of using a Mevo Plus at our church for Facebook live streams. It's a smallish sanctuary about 35' wide with a 25' stage and 65' long with a mixture of nature and artificial lighting. The idea is to mount the Mevo in the back and use the Boost for power and Ethernet connectivity. My only concern is the audio. Using the Mevo internal microphone seems limiting. I'm curious to know if you've tested a shotgun microphone with the Mevo.
I have not used the Mevo Plus - so my comments are on the first gen Mevo but I think you get similar functions just faster and longer wireless connectivity ranges. The Mevo mic is limiting but convenient. I have not tested it with a shotgun mic. If you are concerned about the audio signal, the signal should be fine as long as you use an approved audio interface and cable. Having said that, you need to also consider the quality of the shotgun mic. Our church sanctuary is similar in size to the vaulted ceiling around 30 ft. So be mindful that you will be receiving the sound of the room. Also, the typical distance from the camera to performers is better at 3 feet to 10 feet rather than the back of the room which sounds like 65 feet. You will only get a very wide shot and a smaller wide shot and not get any close shots. If you want simple wide shots then you should have no problem. If you want close headshots, it is not possible at that distance. If you are ok with the long video range, then I suggest you do some tests with the mic you are considering a portable recorder or a smartphone app and listen to the quality. Lastly, make sure you have a strong upload speed. 5 Mbps or higher is recommended. That will affect the quality of the stream that you can upload.
Thanks very much for your thorough response. I think the Mevo is going to suit our needs nicely. I understand it has limitations, but the church is currently streaming its services via somebody's iPhone so the Mevo is going to be a huge leap forward. I'll report back once we've got everything setup!
Hi Marlon, I'm back with another question. :-) I met with our pastor today and he's very excited about the Mevo! (We'll actually get the new Mevo Plus). I'm wondering if you could answer a question. Instead of the mounting it in back of the sanctuary, now the idea is to install a ceiling microphone mount with a gooseneck to mount the Mevo. We'd run power from a ceiling plug to the Mevo's micro USB connector. In other words, the Mevo would be mounted as a permanent fixture about 10-12' off the floor and far enough back to capture the whole stage. Is there a way to power the Mevo on/off remotely when it's powered via the AC adapter? I could use a smart WI-FI plug to switch the power on/off remotely, but will the Mevo continue to run off of battery power until it's drained? Can the battery be removed entirely so it only runs off of AC power? Thanks in advance for your reply!
realistindenial I have a suggestion if you can wait a couple days I have a new video coming out with another streaming solution that may work better for what you're trying to achieve I will hopefully get it up by Monday. So I encourage you just to wait a little bit before you make a purchase if you can because what you're trying to achieve may work with this other solution.

Great video. Question. We've been working on the Mevo for several months now trying to capture good audio. With a speaker, fine. But with live music / full band, the low end is getting cut out entirely. Have you recorded a live band with yours? We are using a Behringer board to run in a custom mix just for the stream. Audio is clear coming out of the board / bass is awesome. On the stream however, we are hearing next to no bass. Appears the Mevo is nixing the low end. Any thoughts?
We do use it for sunday morning live. If you are using the built-in mic on the Mevo then that might be the issue. I was not able to find the frequency response of the built-in microphone. So I do think the Mevo would not produce the full end. We use the built-in mic as our last option for live music because it is picking up everything including the sound of the room. If you are using a mixer then try one of the recommended interfaces to go from your mixer to the iPad. We are using the iRig 2 and it works fine. We set up and Aux send to the iPad. You could also use your Tape Out connections as well. Also do a test of streaming vs recording directly to the Mevo, not the saving to SD after the stream is over. mode just direct. I suspect that the streaming quality may be doing something to the quality of the audio if you are listening to the streamed version. facebook.com/wcbcdc check out the april 16 recording to see what the quality is like. We stream on the lowest quality because we have a really inferior bandwidth because even though we are in a residential area, our local big cable company does not go across the street. So what you are hearing is the whole band that comes through. Everything is mic'd even the drums but they are not sent into the house. It is routed to the Aux sends to get them in the recording. However, we are working with volunteers that are still growing in their skills so things may not be mixed correctly. But basically what you hear in your headphones should be sent to your Mevo setup. Hope this helps.

We have a sound board that runs "the house" / handles everything that is heard live there in the church. In a separate room we have a 2nd soundboard setup. This 2nd board (Behringer x32 Compact) was purchased just for use with the Mevo - as a dedicated board just for that mix / so we can have a custom mix for the Mevo / FaceBook livestream. Everything runs off the main board out to this 2nd board "raw." We can then mix or add effects etc, then send it to the Mevo (iPad). You mentioned connectors. Actually, we've purchased every connector that is on the Mevo site, and are still experiencing the same issues. Very little low end / bass. You gave me your link so I could hear your sound quality. You also mentioned your mix might be off so that could be it but, listening to it you appear to be having the same issue we are. Very little low end / bass. I can see your bass player playing... but I really can't hear him at all in the mix. Is that your mix... or the Mevo... I can't tell. On our end, our bass is booming / super clear coming off of our dedicated sound board and into the Mevo. But, what comes out the recording... is pretty much minus the low end / bass. You mentioned internet speed. We have super fast Verizon Fios in our area. We are way way over what is recommended by Mevo. So, no problems there. If you can think of any other idea's, do share! :-) We'll keep working on it on our end as we're really banking on this working. Spent not only "Mevo money" on this project but also money for a new 2nd dedicated board, cabling, studio monitors & subwoofer (for the monitoring the sound quality of the mix going out to the Mevo / iPad) connectors, iPad, etc... so that we could get live streaming of our services on FaceBook. FPVpastor just wondering what you were hearing through your headphone or monitors. Is that signal coming in with sufficient low end? The other idea that I have to compare if the Meadville is actually cutting your low and is to record the signal coming out of your mixer and open it up on a DAW and import the full quality of the Mevo file and do an A/B comparison.
FPVpastor would you be able to video your physical set up and send it to me? I would love to see what is happening there I also communicated with me though to see if they had any responses.

Hi, Thx for this video, it’s very instructive. We have tried to use our Mevo with mics through a mixer a little old, a RnD AIRENCE, with for our outcable a RCA jack cable and a simple adaptator (not an irig) to go in the iphone. And we have an echo in our videos. We have tried the option « echo suppression » in the mevo app, it works for the voices, but when we had a music with an ipad in our mixer, just as you have done in your vidéo, the music is altered with this echo suppression option. So we have a big problem, because we had like to do a radio show, with mic voices AND music. So, do you think the problem is the lack of IRIG, or our mixer which is to old, or anything else ? If you could help us it would be great !! Thank you 😊

Hello, We have found a solution to our problem !!! For all our previous test we used an IPHONE. To be sure to try everything, we finally decided to borrow and use an IPAD, and halleluia, no echoes. Thanks again for your help !
One of the challenges of the new technology is the connections and approved devices. I am glad you found a solution. Mevo would probably tell you just to use the approved devices on their site. But thanks for sharing.
Can I use this setup on my mevo and note 8 setup? I just got a mevo and use it on my note 8, I'm hooked up my blue yeti microphone through the usb port of the note8 but I'm getting bad feedback and echo when I go live on facebook, also when I put the headphones into the yeti I note a delay in my voice and it makes it confusing when I'm trying to talk. Can you please help
Where are you hearing the echo in your stream, headphones, speakers on your computer? I am not familiar with this setup so help me out. The Yeti connects to the note 8 via a usb cable or audio cable? If you are connecting it via and audio cable then I assume the cable coming is a TRRS or TRS. That might be the issue. The Mevo prefers some sort of audio interface to handle the audio signal such as the iRig 2 or other options from the Mevo website. If you are using some sort of USB connection, I am not sure if Mevo is able to recognize it properly which may be part of your problem. Just keep in mind that the Mevo system is not such a simple plug and play unit. It only works well with approved devices. Anything else is just taking a chance. Let me know if this has helped.
The iRig is designed to go into the audio jack of the ipad which is a 3.5mm hole. If you have a newer ipad that has the USB C port without a headphone jack then you might need a conversion cable that allows you to make the USB C to a headphone jack. I have not tested this setup. But unfortunately because of Apple's new design, it would make charging and headphone use a challenge. Hope this helps.
Help What about multiple external audio sources like using 4 wireless Movo lavalier microphones, as I would like to hold panel discussions with fellow disabled people, I need a simple system that once setup will run on its own and record to my Macbook and stream live, I want the camera to pick up everyone's audio and point the camera to the correct person Does anyone know of affordable software that will allow me the stream live to multiple sites like Facebook and CZcams please help me Paul
Hi Paul. I would love to see what you are currently doing and give some input. It looks like you want a lot of automation connected to ease. This usually means a higher price but not always. You are using 4 wireless mics - this means you need some sort of device/mixer to be the connection between the audio and your Macbook. This also means you have to sync the audio to your video. Not a big problem but you seem to want multiple cameras that switch according to an audio signal. This is some pretty complicated switching that I am not sure there is a solution that is out there but I do have two that might work. Google hangouts can function a bit like what you want. The only issue would be that each person would be on their own computer with their own mic and this may not be feasible especially being in the same room and if they have some limited abilities in running their own system. I would also suggest looking into some sort of conference video solutions. I am not too familiar with these but I did run a system at a higher education scenario where we used a Polycom system for a live online class with two classrooms. The equipment included proprietary camera that would perform pan/tilt/and zoom with a wireless remote control unit, a conference table mic, a TV and some interface equipment. The camera was very hight quality and the conversations between the classes in two locations and the teacher was great, however, there were two techs running this, me on the lower westcoast and the other on the upper westcoast. The other solution involves having someone on sight to run the camera directing and "switch" the cameras live during the discussion. The Mevo is able to do this but it will not interface directly with a macbook. It is primarily marketed as an iOS and Android device connection that works with its device app. I recommend this setup if you want to go with a Mevo camera. Items needed: Mevo Camera $400 Mackie 1202 Mixer $269 iRig 2 $36 iOS or Android approved device ??? 4 Movo wireless mics $400 Misc Cables $40 A budget of $1300 should get you there but then you need an assistant to run/direct it. You could use the Mevo system to record HD and then import to your Macbook for editing, titles, music, etc. and upload. Finally, I would encourage you to check into the local community college or public TV stations that already might have a studio setup, + wheelchair accessibility to see what things you could possibly pursue. I live in Pacifica, CA and we have PCTV. pacificcoast.tv/ and they produce with volunteers many local shows. I hope this helps and please feel free to contact me with any other questions.

The iRig is the connection between the external mic/mixer and the iPad. This allows you to get better audio than is provided by the built-in mic on the Mevo. Depending upon the mic you use, you may need a mixer. I happened to be using a wired mic solution. The mic I use requires phantom power so it is easiest for me to use a small portable mixer. First is provides the phantom power, a simple XLR connection. This allows me to ensure a strong signal all the way to the iRig by setting the gain stage using the PFL/meter options on the mixer. The mixer also outputs 1/4 which the iRig is set to receive. The mixer also gives me the option to monitor the mic signal with headphones and to also add external audio to add - like from ipod or media device or even use more than one mic. If you are only using one mic then there are other solutions that will allow you to get good audio without using the Mevo built in mic. This is the solution that works for us and gives me the option of using virtually any mics that we already have. Hope this helps.

You are welcome. I am making a new video soon about the limitations of the Mevo solution. You need to be aware of the limits of the bluetooth range - I have had it disconnect at times - the stream doesn't actually stop - just the iOS app - the camera continues to record/stream - if the distance is an issue then be careful with your setup. Just something to consider.

Sorry for the late reply. 1. The Mevo has a built in stereo mic. With an additional interface, you can use your external mic of choice. 2. The latest version of the App allows you to use your cell phone as a mic. look up Mevo Mic in the google play or apple store 3. You can only connect to it with a laptop if you are a subscriber to Vimeo or Livestream. The equipment is older and may be a challenge to find some of these online. I will give you the current ones I have and the suggested newer models: Mixer: Mackie 402 VLZ3 Mixer - $49 on Ebay Mic: Audio-Technica AT831B Lavalier Condenser Microphone - $32 on Ebay iRig2: $39 local dealer The newer products would be: Mixer: Mackie 402 VLZ4 $99 Mic: Audio-Technica AT831B Lavalier Condenser Microphone $199 iRig2: $39 You will also need a balanced 1/4 cable - at least 1 foot or longer. 1 XLR mic cable The equipment I purchased is older equipment that was purchased used. I did this because of budget and I am comfortable purchasing used equipment. If you need to return the items, I suggest a local or online dealer like sweetwater.com or other reputable dealers such as Amazon. The setup I use works best for a small local setting. If you are planning to use this in a larger venue you may want to consider something else. However, I find this small rig great for my online tutorials. Hope this helps.
You can try but the Mevo has some quirks to it in so it may or may not work. Mevo recommends using approved interfaces. It seems to be an issue with wiring configurations.
yes but not with the iRig2 - you would need another piece. You could use the Mevo Boost which has a USB port and then add a 2 channel usb interface. these will keep the two channels panned hard right and left. Check out this video: czcams.com/video/TfosFMRbSdo/video.html

For all our previous test we used an IPHONE.

One of the challenges of the new technology is the connections and approved devices. I am glad you found a solution. Mevo would probably tell you just to use the approved devices on their site. But thanks for sharing.
Can I use this setup on my mevo and note 8 setup?
I just got a mevo and use it on my note 8, I'm hooked up my blue yeti microphone through the usb port of the note8 but I'm getting bad feedback and echo when I go live on facebook, also when I put the headphones into the yeti I note a delay in my voice and it makes it confusing when I'm trying to talk. Can you please help
Where are you hearing the echo in your stream, headphones, speakers on your computer?
I am not familiar with this setup so help me out. The Yeti connects to the note 8 via a usb cable or audio cable? If you are connecting it via and audio cable then I assume the cable coming is a TRRS or TRS. That might be the issue. The Mevo prefers some sort of audio interface to handle the audio signal such as the iRig 2 or other options from the Mevo website. If you are using some sort of USB connection, I am not sure if Mevo is able to recognize it properly which may be part of your problem.
Just keep in mind that the Mevo system is not such a simple plug and play unit. It only works well with approved devices. Anything else is just taking a chance. Let me know if this has helped.
Please, I have a question, my iPad has headphones jack and the charger connection, so how do I connect the irig
The iRig is designed to go into the audio jack of the ipad which is a 3.5mm hole. If you have a newer ipad that has the USB C port without a headphone jack then you might need a conversion cable that allows you to make the USB C to a headphone jack. I have not tested this setup. But unfortunately because of Apple's new design, it would make charging and headphone use a challenge. Hope this helps.

What about multiple external audio sources like using 4 wireless Movo lavalier microphones, as I would like to hold panel discussions with fellow disabled people, I need a simple system that once setup will run on its own and record to my Macbook and stream live, I want the camera to pick up everyone's audio and point the camera to the correct person
Does anyone know of affordable software that will allow me the stream live to multiple sites like Facebook and CZcams

Hi Paul. I would love to see what you are currently doing and give some input. It looks like you want a lot of automation connected to ease. This usually means a higher price but not always. You are using 4 wireless mics - this means you need some sort of device/mixer to be the connection between the audio and your Macbook. This also means you have to sync the audio to your video. Not a big problem but you seem to want multiple cameras that switch according to an audio signal. This is some pretty complicated switching that I am not sure there is a solution that is out there but I do have two that might work.
Google hangouts can function a bit like what you want. The only issue would be that each person would be on their own computer with their own mic and this may not be feasible especially being in the same room and if they have some limited abilities in running their own system.
I would also suggest looking into some sort of conference video solutions. I am not too familiar with these but I did run a system at a higher education scenario where we used a Polycom system for a live online class with two classrooms. The equipment included proprietary camera that would perform pan/tilt/and zoom with a wireless remote control unit, a conference table mic, a TV and some interface equipment. The camera was very hight quality and the conversations between the classes in two locations and the teacher was great, however, there were two techs running this, me on the lower westcoast and the other on the upper westcoast.
The other solution involves having someone on sight to run the camera directing and "switch" the cameras live during the discussion. The Mevo is able to do this but it will not interface directly with a macbook. It is primarily marketed as an iOS and Android device connection that works with its device app.
I recommend this setup if you want to go with a Mevo camera.

A budget of $1300 should get you there but then you need an assistant to run/direct it. You could use the Mevo system to record HD and then import to your Macbook for editing, titles, music, etc. and upload.
Finally, I would encourage you to check into the local community college or public TV stations that already might have a studio setup, + wheelchair accessibility to see what things you could possibly pursue. I live in Pacifica, CA and we have PCTV. pacificcoast.tv/ and they produce with volunteers many local shows.

The iRig is the connection between the external mic/mixer and the iPad. This allows you to get better audio than is provided by the built-in mic on the Mevo.
Depending upon the mic you use, you may need a mixer. I happened to be using a wired mic solution. The mic I use requires phantom power so it is easiest for me to use a small portable mixer. First is provides the phantom power, a simple XLR connection. This allows me to ensure a strong signal all the way to the iRig by setting the gain stage using the PFL/meter options on the mixer. The mixer also outputs 1/4 which the iRig is set to receive. The mixer also gives me the option to monitor the mic signal with headphones and to also add external audio to add - like from ipod or media device or even use more than one mic.
If you are only using one mic then there are other solutions that will allow you to get good audio without using the Mevo built in mic. Check this link: help.getmevo.com/hc/en-us/articles/222875167-Best-Practices-For-Great-Audio.
This is the solution that works for us and gives me the option of using virtually any mics that we already have. Hope this helps.

You are welcome. I am making a new video soon about the limitations of the Mevo solution. You need to be aware of the limits of the bluetooth range - I have had it disconnect at times - the stream doesn't actually stop - just the iOS app - the camera continues to record/stream - if the distance is an issue then be careful with your setup. Just something to consider.

1. The Mevo has a built in stereo mic. With an additional interface, you can use your external mic of choice.
2. The latest version of the App allows you to use your cell phone as a mic. look up Mevo Mic in the google play or apple store
3. You can only connect to it with a laptop if you are a subscriber to Vimeo or Livestream. You can then download Studio 6 with allows the Mevo to be setup as camera over your local network

The equipment is older and may be a challenge to find some of these online. I will give you the current ones I have and the suggested newer models:

You will also need a balanced 1/4 cable - at least 1 foot or longer.

The equipment I purchased is older equipment that was purchased used. I did this because of budget and I am comfortable purchasing used equipment. If you need to return the items, I suggest a local or online dealer like sweetwater.com or other reputable dealers such as Amazon. The setup I use works best for a small local setting. If you are planning to use this in a larger venue you may want to consider something else. However, I find this small rig great for my online tutorials. Hope this helps.
Is the irig necessary? Can't I use a passive adapter from 1/4 inch to 3.5mm?
You can try but the Mevo has some quirks to it in so it may or may not work. Mevo recommends using approved interfaces. It seems to be an issue with wiring configurations.
Also the new Mevo Start has a direct 3.5mm input which is what they should have done with the first Mevo models.

yes but not with the iRig2 - you would need another piece. You could use the Mevo Boost which has a USB port and then add a 2 channel usb interface. these will keep the two channels panned hard right and left. Check out this video: czcams.com/video/TfosFMRbSdo/video.html
@@marlonv Thanks! I did get the Boost, and see that you need an interface. I have an old Focusrite, maybe that will work. I'm thinking I should have bought the Mevo Start, though. This is for concerts, and I understand the Start handles low lighting better.
