  • I tend to build "Super Villain" bases in Minecraft (Volcanos, underwater, moon bases, ect). Since Ocean Temple Guardians are essentially sharks with frickin' lasers on their heads, I decided to build my latest base on the site of an ocean temple so it could be protect by laser sharks. This is probably my biggest and most ambitious Minecraft project. This was done on a private, friendly survival server (hence all the signs for visitors).
The base consists of a large central dome built out of the original ocean temple structure that's connected by glass tunnels to several other domes and buildings. I got started by tunneling in to the ocean temple from beneath, finding and killing the elder guardians, and then removing all of the water from the temple (the hardest part). After that, I removed all of the interior walls, leaving just the ziggurat shaped exterior shell.
The large central dome was built from inside the ziggurat, and sticks out through the top since it is significantly taller than the ocean temple base. I had originally intended to remove the ocean temple shell afterwards, but kind of liked how the dome looked with the ziggurat base surrounding it, so I left it mostly intact.
I then built four small automatic guardian farms at the diagonal corners (the large silo looking buildings). These use a fairly common design of enclosed spawn chamber + water funnel + lava trap. The farm produces an infinite amount of ocean temple material for prismarine and sea lanterns for everyone on the server. They also produce ink from squids, although at a slow pace compared to the other materials. It produces so many fish, that eventually I added automatic filter disposals to all but one of the four towers.
The center dome and all four towers are located within the original foundation space of the ocean temple, which means they are valid area for guardian spawns. I usually have large groups of guardians swimming around and sitting on top of the central dome, and they regularly patrol the surrounding area. This does negatively impact the efficiency of the actual guardian farms, but they still produce plenty.
To the north of the main dome is a "farm dome". It is large enough to grow four dark oak trees. The wood primarily goes to an automatic charcoal generator, which can produce infinite fuel without my having to leave the base. The remainder of this dome is a plot for other crops (mostly wheat, carrots, and potatoes to trade to villagers).
Outside of the is an 8x parallel furnace with a single input, fuel, and output chest, an automated sugarcane farm.
To the south is my "animal dome". This was originally for raising and harvesting animals brought down from the surface, but since I had so many fish and didn't need animal for food, I eventually converted this into a zoo.
To the west is a a "redstone lab" I built just to have a large space to play around with machines. I have glassed in examples there of the machines I used in the base (for others on the server to reference). On the way there are aquariums where I keep a few nametagged guardians as pets (their water is only one block deep because any deeper and more would spawn inside!).
In the center of the central dome there is a secret piston door in the floor leading to an enchanging area made entirely of purpur and other End blocks. The button that triggers the door can be removed to hide the entrance more thoroughly.
To the west is an underwater boathouse with a two-stage slime block launcher. Our server runs Spigot, which messes with some redstone timings a bit, so I could not get a fully automatic two-stage launcher to work consistently. In this design, the two stages must be triggered manually.
The hole in the bottom of the dock leads to my mine. If Monsters try to swim up into the base, they will drown before reaching the top (I have a respiration helmet on in the video, which is why I'm fine).
The floor throughout are half-slabs of quartz (except in the redstone lab where half-level is inconvenient). All of the lighting is recessed sea lanterns in the floor and walls so that you have an unobstructed view into the domes from above. Much of the prismarine used came from tearing down the original temple, and the rest was produced by the farm silos.
The entire base was very time-consuming to build, and I'm pretty proud of how it came out.
