    It turned out Amazing!!! I think the Gesso helped with the textures in the background but I do think it would have made you main characters easier to work with without the gesso. Also have you ever tried using an xacto knife for hair? Do the exact technique that you did and when finished lightly scrape back the pencil in the direction that the hair if flowing and it will take up some of the pencil to reveal tiny hair like marks. It really makes a big difference and its pretty quick. You can then go back and add some highlights and lowlights in areas for finishing touches. Ok I am done now haha. 🤣🙌✌

      @SarahRenaeClark  Před 2 lety +28

      I tried the knife trick once and couldn’t get it to work. But I know exactly what you mean and I’ve seen other pencil artists do it beautifully! I’ll get it right at some point 😜

    Yes it didn’t bleed through because of the gesso! 😄 definitely try another page with regular gesso, it will still feel textured, but more like it’s been sanded lightly rather than actual rough sandpaper. Can’t wait, this page was gorgeous

    Wow. Thanks for sharing. I would really like to see a boring colouring page. The way you know that it will turn out its best. At least for 1 of these pages. They are so beautiful. The bonus is we get to how it turns out in comparison to your experiments. Love you, love your channel, love this video. Thank you for uploading a video. I keep searching to see if I missed 1 of your videos. However you never disappoint. I always end up learning something new and enjoying watching you make beautiful art.

    I really appreciate your reminders that skills take practice to learn and to master... I've struggled with taking on tasks that I fear I won't be good at right away because I'm afraid of failing/not being good/good enough at something. I would love to be able to color the way you do and its always such a good reminder that it takes time and practice and repetition and even after hundreds of hours... thousands of hours... no one is perfect and there's always room to grow and learn. It's so applicable to so many things. I honestly keep coming back to your videos for your attitude and outlook more than anything. :)

    The amount of detail you archieve in this drawings is amazing! Although the Gesso might have to be too textured for your liking, for myself it could be exactly right if the colored pencils act like pastel pencils because of it. I mean, with pastel pencils you don't need to push that hard to get the pigment down and that might mean, that my hand doesn't need to suffer that much anymore, if I use colored pencils on top of the sandpaper Gesso? For a weakhanded person like me, that would be a thing! 😅

    Hey Sarah,
    Some video ideas:
    1. Colour using one colour on a colouring page. Eg: colour using every red colour you have of water colour, colour pencils, markers etc. on one colour page
    2. Colour one page using one type medium with different colours each. So if you use a red colour pencil you can't use red of another medium, say red water colour. So basically, as an example, you use red marker, blue pencil, green watercolour etc.
    I like your chanel by the way, very relaxing 😌
    Also, have you seen the prismacolour colour erase pencils. They're colour pencils that you can actually erase! Wild!

    Hi Sarah! Love how the page came out!!! Do you have tracing paper or glassine lying around? If you do use a piece of it to rest your hand on so you don't schmear your art from resting your hand on it! It might not work if there is an insane amount of pencil dust physically laying on the page, but it works like a dream for normal circumstances! It's what I do AND an added bonus is that it keeps the art archival by keeping your skin oils off the art which can alter the color over time! So if you're making something to give to someone........😄😄😊😊

    I like the videos in which you experiment things like this: today it is gesso and markers. If you want to get into watercolor practice then I will suggest using watercolor markers first. Those are good for coloring books with thick paper and you can combine them with Derwent Inktense as both, markers and colors, don’t need so much water to be activated.
    There is another artist here on CZcams that found a hack to use regular markers, water-based, and gouache. I think her channel is called Color My World. The hacks she suggests are awesome and can be used on regular coloring book paper. Thanks for the video and tips.

    Gesso is such an amazing tool to help preserve pages from bleed through and creating texture but it’s got a learning curve to it (like everything else). I use a clear gesso to create grit for soft pastels! you can even create a homemade watercolor ground from clear gesso and transparent modeling paste! SO many uses! Turned out beautifully. Yeah, Gesso is used on substrates, typically with acrylics, to strengthen and prep the surface. It prevents absorption, even the non-texture type. My “fearless” attempts always involve trying to be looser in style. It almost always turns out like I used my toes!

  • @mikamiso
    @mikamiso Před 2 lety

    one thing you could try with the gesso marker combo, is doing the markers first and then doing gesso. (basically gesso is like acrylic paint combined with a chalk/rough medium that makes paint stick to it) its also good if you have a super smooth paper you want to use coloured pencils on as it creates more tooth effectivly. all gesso does this btw so it wasnt that you used the wrong one. if you wanted a smoother texture tho you can lightly sand it before you work. oh and if you want something that will absorb the paint/ink more you can use something called watercolour ground, i personally own some for painting on wood with watercolour and also it works as almost a tipex/correction fluid that you can paint over. it is kinda expensive though! :'D
