    Maybe it's an age thing. I'm 53 years young so I grew up with a decent generation of hot hatches. They may not be as quick as today's cars but you can't deny the likes of the Peugeot 205 gti and Renault 5 turbo weren't more fun back in the day

    Hi an interesting video. I’m both a petrol head and a fan of Ev’s having had both fast petrol hatches and currently a fast Ev But the thing I hear all the time of late is how Ev’s depreciate but it’s obvious looking at your videos all cars at the moment depreciate however they are powered. The one Ev that gets pulled apart by Ev haters is the Porsche taycan but what these people fail to realise is that when that car was launched it was both leased or pcp,ed by hundreds of people and some of which paid over the retail price for but as a result of these contracts coming to an end there is now a glut of them on the used market. It was and still is a brilliant car the only thing I see it’s been a victim of it’s own success pretty much the same can be said of the tesla modal 3 and give it a year or so and that will apply to the y. The only comment I make about your video is how you commented on people buying these cars new. Yes I can see you can buy a dam good used car for a lot less than new but somebody has to buy that car new to enable you or I to buy that car used.

    You think 30k for a brand new car is cheap?

    • @ApothecaryTerry
      @ApothecaryTerry Před 3 měsíci +4

      These days, it pretty much is - you can't even get a base spec, totally option-free A-Class or Cupra Leon for that (at RRP). Most other cars of that size, which 4/5 cars in this video are, start around £30k as well.
      Sure you can get a new car for £13k, but surely nobody who likes cars enough to watch this video would seriously consider buying a brand new base spec Picanto or MG3...nothing wrong with someone buying a boring car if they can't afford anything better, but anyone spending a 5-figure sum on one is clearly not interested in cars or driving, at all. £30k on the other hand, that's new Fiesta ST money now, there are a few cheaper fun cars but it's a very reasonable budget to compare new cars against, for potential viewers here.

    • @Hali88
      @Hali88 Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, but if there are buyers willing to pay the asking price then I guess the manufacturers don't care! There are obviously people who don't care about the depreciation, maybe because it's their company car so their employer takes the losses not them. Manufacturers must absolutely love company car schemes!

    For me for a hot hatch its either between the golf R, A45 AMG or RS3. Golf for the handling and VW DNA or the merc or audi for hyper hatch performance.
    Nice selection of cars in the video. The new 1 series ive driven and liked but dont know on the M135I especially as the engine to me is a downgrade to the inline 6

    • @feemz30
      @feemz30 Před 3 měsíci +1

      From all of them I'd get an RS3. just the 5 pot sound and looks. Golf R is garbage. Honestly the GTI TCR is sooooooo much better. A45 is a beast too. But as far as hot hatches go for me it's the mk3 Focus RS or FK8 Type R. I've got a MK7 GTI manual. And it's alright. Does the job as a family car. But standard was underwhelming. With 310BHP and good tyres she's a menace albeit handling is tame and numb But precise

  • @ApothecaryTerry
    @ApothecaryTerry Před 3 měsíci +1

    Are hot hatches too fast? Maybe. My Pug has 224hp/tonne, that's more than a Ferrari 348GTB/GTS (222hp/tonne). An A45S has 266hp/tonne, noticeably more than a base 911. For reference, the M135i has 206hp/tonne, a 2002 Megane RS has 160hp/tonne and an R.26 R has 186hp/tonne. For roughly 15-20 years, that's not a ridiculously big step, but the roads and speed limits haven't really improved with the performance, so it's no easier to use now than it ever was.
    I chose the Pug because it still feels like a hot hatch (i.e. a meth-addicted chihuahua), for A and B road fun. The AWD ones are all about being fast, which is fine, but it's pretty pointless really - being able to press a pedal and do nothing else while your car does 0-60 quickly isn't anything to brag about. It's kind of fun, but cars can do far more fun things than that, if a Fiesta or Swift had the refinement and tech of the C-segment cars then anything in a performance range between those would be perfect really. For performance, well EVs win in a straight line anyway.

    Who would buy a girls car Fiat 500 (ok Abarth 695 but same thing), for £22 grand, when you can buy something like an M140i ?
    The Fiat is a flimsy, slow, shitty thing, which will continue to drop in value.
    OK I know the cars in this video are newer, but unless you particularly want a brand new car which nobody else has driven (aside from being ragged by the importers, ragged by the valeters at the dealership, and kerbed by the test drives), then what is the difference between a year old driven without even being washed once car, to a 3 or 4 year old carefully loved car ?

      My mate loved his Abarth, I've no doubt they're good, i just think they look hideous, I wouldn't have a M140i either, I drove a M135i and my head was battering off the Jesus handle, they're too small inside (for me anyway). I30N is the only car I'd consider here.

    • @DjNikGnashers
      @DjNikGnashers Před 3 měsíci

      @@badger4361 The M140i has as much room in as any comparable hatchback.
      I worked for Hyundai for 4 years, and was there when the i30N first came out.
      It's a very good car, and handles very well for a FWD car. But they are no bigger inside than an M140i, or a Civic R, or any other similar sized hatch.
      I didn't find them (i30N) exciting to drive, or fun. They are capable, and fairly fast, but for under £18 grand, there really isn't anything faster than an M140i, or as much fun.

  • @51madmitch
    @51madmitch Před 3 měsíci

    The BMW is ugly, look at the front overhang from front wheels, looks weird, big depreciation when I was car dealing is because hard to sell often because of high running cars, insurance on this is horrendous, same now with second hand EV’s dealers don’t want them as very hard to move on because of battery issues, not rocket science, initial cost of small cars is way overpriced, so not a great bargain after two years, still costly.
