@Shopkeeper59 is not a bold statement in the slightest. Any band (esp. Rock band) worth their salt is gonna be better live than in the studio. In all my years of seeing and listening to live music, I have never come across a band that is better in the studio than live. Don't know what acts you have been listening to, obviously the wrong ones. Naturally, I expected The Warning to be better live and, naturally, they did not disappoint. But like I said, any band should be better live thus making The Warning no more special than anybody else in THAT facet. I could list a plethora of bands and artists that are better live than studio that will show DPA are not in an exclusive club. This is not me crapping on The Warning because they are excellent at what they do studio or live, preferably live with the new stuff though.

I listened to all 53 covers on the Blacklist album and The Warning's cover is by far the most interesting. Most of the well known artists, were too afraid to take chances and just did a straight cover with different sounding guitars or vocals, while The Warning, who at the time were not established, went for it and fearlessly re-imagined this classic song, which took a lot of guts.

    • @BlackOut0321
      @BlackOut0321 Před 19 dny +19

The Warnings cover is the best one on that album by a MILE! and to your point they were the only ones who followed Metallica's instructions...Keep the lyrics, but musically turn it inside out, upside down, sideways, or whatever. And they knocked it not just out of the park but out of the city the park is in. It is a what I call a hauntingly beautiful lullaby. and for me personally as much as I like Metallica's version, I love The Warnings version 100 times more.

Having Alessia Cara is a BOLD move. Alessia is a pop singer, so it was a big bet IMO.
You are right. Most of the other covers are just copying the arrangement 90-100%.

For your next reaction, I would highly recommend going back and doing the TEDx presentations at the University of Nevada in 2016 and 2017. These performances are what hooked many of the warning army to this group! There are three songs in each with verbal presentations from the girls in between all songs. You really get to know them a little bit and that's what brought me us in emotionally. They are close to 20 minutes each but well worth the time!

Incredibly emotional and cathartic, the songs are all bangers, and they wrote, recorded, and performed the whole thing, as indie artists, when all three of the sisters were teenagers. Stunning.

Of the 53 artists on the Metallica Blacklist album, The Warning was one of the very few to completely reimagine the original song. Alessia is a Canadian Grammy winning singer-songwriter (more in the pop genre) who appears as a projection because the MV was made during the pandemic, and Alessia couldn’t travel from Canada. If you need another cry, check out Black Holes live from the Dakota Bar, or Revenant at the Teatro Metropolitan CDMX (both featuring Pau as lead vocalist). 👍😎

Dany came close with that solo. Most people don’t notice, during Dany’s solo listen to Ale off screen! There are videos of them being younger…when they still had ribbons in their hair! Precious! Metallica gave instructions to keep the lyrics, but turn it inside out, upside down, make it their own. The video filmed during the pandemic with Alessia and TW separated from each other. When restrictions were over Alessia and TW got the chance to perform together live on stage once. Make it a trifecta. Watch The Warning do Enter Sandman at the Teatro Metropolitan. They did some changes as they only had Alessia’s prerecorded vocals. Dany always mentions Alessia as part of the song in their intro. They have remained friends. The Warning reworked the song further where they are accompanied on stage by the string section of an orchestra!

re: 2014 *Enter Sandman* cover :
for a trio, much less a young trio, this is fantastic! slightly different but a full wall of sound filled with raw power and grit... the child's prayer with Pau (drums) and Ale (bass) is beautiful and takes me back to my own youth and bedtimes with one of my parents coaching me along... the power of Pau on the drums, Ale's driving bass line, and Dany rocking out on guitar with her James Hetfield scowl are... whoa! then you think who needs two guitars when you have one Dany? 😹
also, i'll note that the wall behind the camera is a full mirror so all the girls can see themselves playing... this was done so they could work on their stage presence... the wall on Ale's (bass) side also has a window into the equipment side of their studio known as "The Warning Cave" or "The Cave" for short...
they were 14 (Dany on guitar), 12 (Pau on drums), and 9 (Ale on bass) when this was recorded... yes! this is where they went viral, out of the blue! 10 years ago... i mean 🤯

    re: reimagined *Enter Sandman* :
DPA/TW and Alessia Cara certainly understood the assignment!
Alessia Cara is a Grammy winning Canadian Pop and R&B singer... they had 10 days to rip this rendition of *Enter Sandman* from the ether and make it a darker, more eerie, and a more haunting lullaby than the original metal version... they made the deadline and got this OMV for it to boot!
this reimagining and performance were done because they, and many other artists from numerous genres, were invited by Metallica to take one of the songs from the original _"Black"_ album, keep the lyrics and change it up how ever you like... play it backwards, upside down, whatever... this was all for the 30th anniversary of the _"Black"_ album... all the submissions from 50someodd artists were put on the 2021 _"The Metallica Blacklist"_ album... the proceeds from the album sales are split 50/50 with half going to Metallica's "All Within My Hands Foundation" and the other half being donated to a charity of the participating artists' choice.
in the OMV, Dany (guitar) and Alessia share the lead vocals until they are in the three doorways when Dany takes over and Alessia does more of the background oooohs and aaaahs... the version they play in concert has Dany doing the vocals with a backing track of Alessia's ohhhs and ahhhs... of course Ale (bass) and Pau (drums) join in with their angelic harmonies in both... this is a fantastic reimagining of the iconic original... this 60+ year old rocker loves both versions of Enter Sandman but this one by TW and Alessia gets more airtime these days 😹

Yes, the girls have gotten everyone with tears. FYI: the first cover they did in 2014 was done in one take, no post-pro. If they had messed up they would have had to start over. Alejandra has only been playing bass 2 years, and they have only been playing together for 2 years. Their home basement studio they call The Warning Cave.
Alessia Cara was one of 53 artists invited by Metallica to choose a song from the Black album for the Black list charity album celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Black album. Alessia is an award winning pop singer, had never done a rock song, and didn't know a single track from the Black album. She approached Chris Smith, her international booking agent of 21 Entertainment Group in Toronto, because she wasn't sure what to do. Chris had met TW following their show at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in 2019, later met with them in Monterrey, MX, their hometown and signed them with 21 EG as their International Booking Agent. Well, he suggested to Alessia a collaboration with TW. She liked the idea, so Chris proposed the collaboration to Metallica and they liked the idea as well.
So, TW and Alessia had 10 days to arrange, record, mix, and submit their track to the Metallica Blacklist team. The producer for the track was Matt Squire who flew to Monterrey to be with TW. Alessia stayed in Toronto as there were still a lot of international travel restrictions in 2021. TW said they didn't think Matt even slept during the recording process because when they came to the studio every morning he was already there and hit them with all kinds of ideas for the song. Matt had prior commitments, so he couldn't mix the track. So, TW sent the demo to producer David Bendeth in New Jersey, he was producer for their album "Error" recorded in 2020. They actually had 5 days to arrange and record the track with Matt Squire before he had to leave, then another 5 to mix and submit the song to the Metallica Blacklist team.
I will qualify the last statement because in a VLOG explaining their involvement in the Blacklist project Ale mentions they had 5 days to record the song. That was because that was how long Matt Squire had before he had to leave. In later interviews they mention they had 10 days to record and submit the song.
    Consider these songs:
"Automatic Sun" from the Tecate Pa'l Norte Festival in their hometown, Monterrey, MX:
    czcams.com/video/PDFH9AcPpyA/video.htmlsi=GsA0gYSJwMlfX8R_
"Hell You Call A Dream" live from the sold out Pepsi Center in Mexico City, 8k in attendance:
    czcams.com/video/s6b_FgQnXL8/video.htmlsi=nG6ZytfkF5SX4efb
I suggest a double feature of the song written by Dany, "When I'm Alone":
Live from 2 sold out nights at the Teatro Metropolitan in Mexico City, August 29, 2022, 3k in attendance each night:
    czcams.com/video/H1vbioHf9zo/video.htmlsi=vAjvBiooy7gPuEcQ
And when "I'm Alone" solo acoustic by Dany from the Auditoria Parabellon M in Monterrey in front of her hometown:
    czcams.com/video/QzF5odkFr08/video.htmlsi=R334kWnKx8D48Pi8
This is from the Warning Army page so I don't think you'll have an issue with copyright.
Consider a longer video of their second at the TEDx Talk series. They perform 3 original songs from their first studio album "XXI Century Blood" released in 2017, "Unmendable", "When I'm Alone", and "Survive". In between the songs they talk about their musical journey in producing their first studio album, what music means to them, what is important in their lives, and what they have experienced from the music industry up to that point. Note: at the time of this performance Daniela was 16, Paulina 15, Alejandra 12.

The Warning is one of those bands where you don't just listen to their music, you watch every single thing THE WARNING... and I mean EVERYTHING!! All of the Documentaries, and tour after movies, vlogs on The Warnings CZcams channel, but also every interview they do, every concert they do that's recorded and put on CZcams, every fan-cam from concerts, every behind-the-scenes videos, and reaction channels such as yours. We The Warning Army are obsessed with this band and watch everything. And we welcome newcomers with the widest open arms as possible. We want this band to Rocketship its way to the top of the Rock World!!!! and Headline arenas, and festivals. Their story is made up of fairy tales come to life. From their dad and Moms 100% unwavering support from the very beginning getting them into piano lessons as children, to them buying the girls the Rock Band video game (which ignited a spark of life into the girls to start a band). To their dad selling his Harley to buy the instruments I believe you see in the first Enter Sandman video. To building an in-house soundproof room I think, in the basement, which is called The Warning Cave (that's the room they're in in the first video). But nothing has been handed to them, they have worked their ASSES off behind the scenes, with practice, and rehearsals, and studio work. and live performances, to get to where they are today! and to think in the first enter sandman video they were 9, 12, and 14. Today as of August 24, 2024, they are 19, 22, and 24, they are 10-year music industry veterans and neither of the 3 are above the age of 25. That is a feat in and of itself and impressive as hell. Also, as many of the other The Warning Army members have pointed out; they do not have a bad song. They have 59 songs between 4 albums, XXI Century Blood (2017 release), Queen of The Murder Scene (2018 release), Error (2022 release), Keep Me Fed (2024 release), and their 6 track EP Escape the Mind released in 2015. Also, their superpower is their Live Performances. I would honestly recommend anything from The Warning, seriously!! you can't go wrong. And I would definitely recommend the Teatro Metroplitan 2022 performance in Mexico City.

K-Ross, I am enjoying your reactions to my favorite rock band. I learned of them about 4 years ago, during the covid pandemic and their music helped me get through those dark days. Great music provides hope to the world. I feel we are leaving those dark days behind us and starting to help each other move forward, creating solutions to today's problems. I am a proud patreon for The Warning and will see them live for my 5th time on September 18. I am also a proud patreon for one other young musical artist, Angelina Jordan, a self taught jazz singer. Angelina's genius arrangement of "Bohemian Rhapsody" is her most popular, but she is proving to be a great songwriter.

There’s a strong sentiment among many in The Warning Army that “live is always better.” In some ways, that can be true - the live shows always have that certain extra energy and passion that they get from playing in front of an audience - but the studio tracks are the “ideal” versions that the band then tries to replicate while touring. Also, the actual videos are often stunning; “XXI Century Blood,” “Martirio,” “Choke,” and of course this video are well worth watching.

One thing as a reminder on the "kid version" is that there's 5 instruments originally.
The Blacklist version with Alessia is marvelous, both Alessia and TW did excellent job! As well did their production teams. Also the live version by TW alone is dope.

Liking your reactions to TW. I get you man, a bunch of us here has gotten teary eyed from time to time, I know I have. Once you get to know them a little, you can't help but to love them as humans. They have worked so hard and it's starting to pay off. They are loved in Europe, they've toured there 3 times now. The first time when they opened for Muse. All together, TW opened for them 9 times. Matt and Lzzy from Halestorm each gifted Dany a guitar. This last European tour, they played Wacken and Pol'and Rock Festivals and melted faces. There is so much to check out, but I'm partial to the 2017 TEDx program, it was there that I dove in head first down their rabbit hole. It was the first time I heard TW. I will subscribe for more of The Warning, cheers.

It's insane to see at that age that Ale has such perfect technique on the bass. Pau was amazing even back then, but always looks like she's on there verge killing those drums and eventually grew into an economy of motion in her playing. Then you have Dany who has evolved into a killer guitar player.

If you want a real treat and something special by The Warning, watch the songs Dust To Dust and 23. Watch them live at the Teatro Met CDMX (abbreviation for Mexico City). They sold out the concert. In doing so, there was such high demand for tickets, they added a second night which also sold out... quickly, I might add. By doing so, the T.M. CDMX management put their name up on the marquee prior to the shows. First time this had ever happened. It marked a real accomplishment in their musical journey. The girls were so proud of this moment. There is a video somewhere in YT land and photos online showing their excitement. Some people point out that they are wearing white and then do a "costume" change when watching the Teatro CDMX concerts. This is not the case. As an attendee to both shows, they wore white one of the nights, and black the other. They killed it both nights, and the atmosphere was electric. You talk about goose bumps when watching their videos, well let me tell you... I had the 'chicken skin' from the time I arrived at the venue until well after both the shows ended. Welcome to TWA! These young ladies deserve all the love we can give them. --cp

Fans of The Warning get it, but I think too few others get how masterful they are when it comes to songwriting and arranging. On this one, they shifted elements around to come up with an arrangement that, at the same time, seamlessly blends their hard rock style and Alessia Cara’s pop/R&B style; creates a haunting, ethereal atmosphere that gets at the point of the song even better than the original; and, without sounding forced or inorganic, pays tribute to the original with that outro.

She cried a little when the crowd started singing her song with her and then chanting her name. She talked to the audience during the performance but I don't have a version with an English translation. Essentially she said that we are not alone as long as we have each other. Of course it sounded much better and more eloquent when she said it. That was in the fall of 2023 as one of the three 10 year anniversary shows they did in Mexico.

This is the correct, logical way to learn about The Warning and the importance of this song. The reactor -- and fans -- can still prefer the live version with this approach if they so choose. One can prefer the final chapter of a book, but I doubt anyone would opt to start reading the last chapter first. It's just about the natural order of things.

"Alley" is better than what most English speakers do, but if you really want the most accurate pronunciation, (which is not a big deal), it's AH - LEH. Or Awe - leh. Then ending is like say, "eh", but with an "L", ah-leh.

    • @mjc1389
      @mjc1389 Před 17 dny

To be fair, if you’ve listened to a ton of TW interviews and vlogs and BTS like most of TWA has, even Pau and Dany have variations of how they pronounce Ale’s short name and they’re sisters.
Dany for sure uses a couple of variations between normal conversation and when she was frustrated with Ale when she was goofing off in the Argentina vlog…lol.
I think by this point Ale pretty much answers to any variation if it’s reasonably close.
She’s been called Al or ale like the beer in interviews and she doesn’t even bat an eye anymore.
The funny with TWA is every time a reactor asked how to pronounce a name we respond with a wide variety of phonetic pronunciations for a relatively simple name.
I’ve seen Al-eh, All-lay Alley, the initials LA and many others. It’s actually kinda funny…

Oh yes. About the tears. No worries. You'll get that a lot. So, did I. So, do most. Welcome to The Warning! Alessia is a Grammy winning Canadian pop singer, (also invited by Metallica) who knew little about metal music, so her record label reached out to the warning, thus, the collab. This was all at the beginning lock down (Pandemic), and they had a week to submit to Metallica. Pau took over, and re-arranged the song, and The Warning gave it a couple of run throughs, recorded and sent it to Canada, Alessia sang and filmed her part and sent it back to Mexico, they mixed and recorded and sent to Metallica, with little time to spare.
