This is complicated because the entire length of the ship is aground, the term used for the area that is in contact (pressure) with the ground (seabed) is called "ground reaction." It's not just the displacement (weight) of the ship they need to overcome but, the drag coefficient of the hull sliding along the sea bed, plus suction of the mud, in other words, friction between mud and the ship hull. The next attempt will be with anchors (Ground legs) and a barge with a series of pulleys providing greater purchase from what I hear, after more dredging. They have to be very careful not to develop a list to starboard, it all seems simple but, there are things that can go wrong. Once they get the prop and sea chest into the channel, they will fire up the mains engines and use them as well, the ship also has bow thrusters. Thre is very little tidal increase in this area, typically one ft. If the second attempt fails they will have to start taking weight off the ship.

Interesting! I hadn't heard any details on what they planned to do for the next attempt. Thanks!

Thanks, I've noticed it isn't showing up properly for some methods of viewing it. Not sure what to do about it though.

Was Ever Forward's screws free? Could she assist or do you think that would hamper efforts?

As I understand it one of the main goals was to free the propeller so she could assist with the effort. Unfortunately they do not appear to have been able to accomplish that.

A little play by play would be helpful. Thanks.

The white tug was pulling straight back, the two blue tugs were pulling towards the shipping channel, the Moran tugs were on the other side pushing. Let me know if you have more questions.

@@silasmarner7586 From my vantage point she didn't seem to move any. Based on MarineTraffic they have given up as of a little while ago. As I understand it next attempt will take place in a week.

@@silasmarner7586 Everything stationary is more or less expected. This is just a first attempt. If something moves, then that will be a big change.

Before today the second attempt was supposed to be sunday . But they may need more time at the drawing board.

It looked like the two tugs trying to swing the tail out into the channel lost a lot of forward momentum trying to fight the cross current pulling them south. The southernmost tug looked like every time it had any tension on the line the current would pull it south.
Could they drive a pylon out in the channel, run a line from the evergreen out to the pylon on a tackle and then pull South from the pylon, using the current as extra force?

There were 3 other tugs also working this effort including two not seen on the other side. Could they do that? Perhaps. However they plan to do this again in a week after more dredging as I understand it.

I knew about the two Moran tugs pushing. I was only curious about whether the current could be used to their advantage. It looked like they were losing pulling force by pointing a little upstream to counteract the current.
