About Dude Dad:
Hi! I'm Taylor Calmus, a Colorado-based actor/comedian. I started Dude Dad© two weeks before my son Theo was born as a way to stay creative while learning to be a father. My wife Heidi and I now have 3 kids and over 300+ videos. My purpose for the channel is to entertain, enlighten and inspire.
In addition to Dude Dad©, I have been in numerous TV shows, commercials, and have regular appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live. I will also be hosting my own TV show called "Super Dad" on the new Magnolia Network / Discovery+. Heidi and the kids will also be a part of the show. I am originally from the rural community of Howard, South Dakota.

I did day care for many years and have potty trained about 100 kids. Potty training is training. It's a process. Each kid is different. It's going to take a while so relax, be patient, most important: be positive! Use a toileting schedule. I start with every 2 hours and then adjust accordingly. Never ask anything! This implies there's a choice. I always say "The clock says it's potty time!". That way the clock is the boss and gets any blame. You can't argue with a clock. Rewards are not bribes in this case. Boys are weird about poop. I have no idea why, they just are. Poop training boys is going to take a while. Hope any of this helps! I always started training at 1 1/2 as long as they were walking and doing some talking. In home day care- everybody was trained at 2-2 1/2. Group day care by 3.
The two hour thing is what saved me, for real! Good advice. Also the no choices 😂 I still make her sit right before we go anywhere, and probably will for a long long time.
Same here! I worked in daycares for years and did homecare after my child was born. The key was to wait until they show signs of readiness (can hold it sometimes, can talk enough to express when they need to go, are dextrous enough to get their own clothes off) but don't wait forever. And once you start, be consistent! You'll be washing a lot of clothes in the beginning, but if you keep switching back and forth to diapers during waking hours, the whole process will take so much longer.
😂 I only have experience with 1 kiddo ❤& thank god for her ability-
I Put her on the toilet for poop at 7 mo ..?!
My boy was easy to poop train. My girl was the one who took FOREVER to poop train!
Thank you!! Your say on this is super helpful and encouraging for us parents potty-training our toddlers, especially that they're boys!!
I'm not even a parent, but I just love this channel
Same!
Same here 😀
Yep, Same for me Too! 😀😀
Haha I have 2 their kids ages and this is EXACTLY what it’s like! Humor and all. Think of it as preparation 😜
Same here, but I’ve been learning a lot
But then you have the yelling from the bathroom "I'm all done POOOOOOPIIIING!! Come wipe my BOOOOOTTYYYYY!!!" In the middle of dinner.
It's amazing.
My son would yell "I'M DOOOONE!" and he went like 10 times a day XD
Yeah
My oldest did this while we were in church and a bunch of people heard 🤣🤣🤦♀️
MOMMYYYY!!! IM DONE POOOOOOPIIINNGG!! COME WIPE MY BUTT!!!!
My 5 year old granddaughter will STILL do this from time to time....
And always when you have guests, lol.
I lost it at the “Shetland F’N Pony” 😂🤣. Lost it!
Same 😅
I feel as though all baby potty seats should come with a coupon for carpet cleaner....
That's brilliant
Yes, I often think of how truly needed baby shower gifts would scare people. "Why did you get me an upholstery cleaner, dry shampoo, and an industrial strength OtterBox?" People have kids with no baby stuff in some places all around the world. "Kids are not expensive, the things kids break are expensive."
😂
@@SRose-vp6ew right?!? Everybody wants to buy cutesy presents. I'm very pragmatic when it comes to gift giving, for all occasions.
Or coupon for a pet cleaner vacuum with cleaners. I bought a hand-held one for my sister's wedding because one of her cats like to puke all over the house. Works like a dream.
I thought my son Mike would NEVER be potty trained. I finally asked my older son Jeff when he went potty to take Mike with him. Unorthodox but I was desperate!! Success!! 🥳
it happens more then you think
I didn't train my second daughter at all. She just kept following her sister into the bathroom. She trained at a year and a half! This wasn't my plan, BTW.
Peer pressure is real!
They go when they are ready, no relapse, no accidents, night and day, very fast. Worked with all 4 of them with very different personalities.
eh. that depends on the kid.
I was daytime potty trained at 2 1/2.
Night time was an entire different ball game, and I frequently wet till 15, and a few scattered accidents at 16.
I was night potty trained by 8-9 years. Thought it was my shame till I had a relapse at 22 years old which was caused from vivid dreams of waking up and going to the toilet. Agree that everyone's success timeline is different.
Those months of pain with potty training and that endless cleaning of accidents is so much worth not having to buy and constantly change diapers. You got this parents, don't give up! 💪
“Months” 😮
Still trying to potty train my 3 year old! I feel your pain!! The relapse thing is real! When her sister was born, she relapsed abd now wants to be a "baby" pray for me. XD
Your in my prayers baby momma. There is an end to this insanity called parenthood.
I’m going through this now. If you can walk, and talk, you can poop in the damn toilet. 😭
@@spookyara537 right??!?! For the love of all that is holy just use the FRIGGIN TOILET!!
Me too!
Pull ups.
As long as she's potty trained before kindergarten who cares. Just keep on trying.
My youngest niece was 4 in the summer that I came to live with my family.
For a whole host of reasons, she was doing her level best NOT to use the toilet. She would even change her own pull-up!! At the beginning of the school year, she was scheduled to start Pre-K but with no medical reason to be wearing pull-ups, I made it my first priority to help her parents get her going...literally😅 With the help of her bossy big sister, we convinced the 4 year old that she could not go to 'the big kids school' if she didn't use the potty. With that mantra and a tripping schedule (highly recommended), she was ready for school! I took her to class on her first day, but she insisted she did it on her own after that. She graduated from HS in May. Hang in there, 'rents.❤🤭
Pride about Age and Skill is a strong motivation.
I heard a noise in the kitchen, went to investigate. My dog was eating her dinner, my son (2 1/2) had his pants around his ankles and was peeing on the dog. I said "what are you doing", he turned around with his weiner in his hand and a blank expression and looked me right in the eyes and said "the dog peed on the floor". Its a blast
This is the greatest thing I’ve ever read.
Omg! I just died from laughing.
Did not expect to laugh so suddenly XD
Thanks a lot now my cats think I'm nuts from laughing so hard.
This is the best story to bring out later in life.
Omgosh, this is the funniest 😂
you forgot the "parents give up" stage. :-) going through this right now. needed the laugh
Sshh you're not supposed to tell anyone about that stage. Otherwise no one would have kids anymore.
Says the lady with only cats that are self litterbox trained.
My mom gave my big sister and me m&ms every time I went. As a result she asked me if I had to go every twelve seconds and my mom didn’t have to do anything. Genius.
Im doing this when my daughter gets back from the grandparents. You tell your mom she's a freaking genius.
Tried that and my kid would still just shit and piss himself anyway and then scream for candy regardless.
My mom did the same thing! Haha. My brother & I asked our sister every single second of every day if she had to go potty. My grandpa even got in on it & got m&ms too. 😂 she was potty trained in less than a week.
Same!! Peer pressure was more effective the more kids we had 😆 By #5, he had 4 kids following him around telling him to go potty so they could ALL get a piece of chocolate.
My oldest is only three but...... Maybe I should try this? My one year old has such terrible skin reactions to diapers (cloth or disposable, doesn't matter) and we HAVE to potty train her 😬
We did EC with our first which was awesome, but I flaked out with our second and I'm seriously regretting it.
Just found this channel at 4:30am after my poor kid was losing his tiny little mind for the past hour. It's everything validating I ever wanted to see. Consider me hooked. #DudeDad #ShouldBeSleeping
You can do it! You got this, you will sleep again 🙃
Exactly!!! 1 am here - getting me through rougher nights
For anyone else finding this -- yes, you eventually get to sleep again, and it's wonderful. But then I had a second, so I'm back to square 1. See you in another 2 years.
Depends on the child too. I had one that potty trained in 3 days and was accident free from then on. My other, stubborn, logic-based child couldn’t see how being potty trained was an improvement on our current arrangement. 😒
Same. First one perfect. Second was great peeing, but loved his poop to much 🤣 oh and also life changes is critical too. Third one didn't get much time with running around so much, he trained himself
Apparently when my mom tried to tell my brother that potty training was good because it was sign he was growing up he replied "but I want to be a baby forever". My mom was just like "......oh god"
Heidi is a perfect opposite to Taylor. Taylor is more excitable and Heidi is pretty laid back. It works! Just went through surgery and they keep me laughing.
Heal up from surgery! Thanks for watching!
Pro tip: wait until they're 3. It goes a lot smoother.
Yes! And dont pressure them. Let them have diapers on, and they will tell you if they want to use the toilet or just go in their diaper. It will be a gradual shift.
A person I knew was trying to potty train their daughter at a year because her mother-in-law told her that she needed to have potty trained that child before she got pregnant with the second one. It was a good Catholic family so the mother-in-law was expecting my friend to start popping out kids every year. This was the same mother-in-law that told my friend her month old baby needed to be on a schedule and to just let her "cry it out."
My son is 3 and he will pee on the potty, still has accidents but I can't get him to poop or tell me he needs to poop til after he already has. How can I get him to poop in the potty? Cause he thinks he only has to pee on it
@@SabresGuy87 does he poop around the same time everyday? Maybe you can try to catch him way before, and sit him down on the potty with a show or book. The more time on there, the more likely he'll have success. Then make a huge deal about what a good boy he is when he finally does it. He'll get it eventually. My little boy had a harder time than my girls for some reason. By the way, if you think he's holding it in you can give him a warm bath and that should help.
@@belindajohansen2899 In my experience, there's some truth to that. It depends on the kid tho, everyone is different and I would just ask parents to prayerfully consider each option/approach etc. Letting them "cry it out" if they're truly tired enough/it's nap time ( but not super worked up type overtired ) and nothing is wrong with them, CAN really help. They CAN ( depends on the kid and what all is going on - some babies turn out to have colic or something ) quickly actually be helped to be on a better schedule by this, and to give up thinking they can cry and get to go back out to where the action is, and just lay down and drift off. I'm never for pressuring a mom to go against her instinct, you can really get a feel for each individual child and each one is unique. And I'm also all for doing things as naturally as possible, so, not for being over-sensitive or spoiling etc., yet definitely going with what's often more how we were created to be than many of the traditional, rather artificial approaches. Such as, sleeping with baby, keeping baby with you on your body in a carrier/sling, etc. . These WON'T make your baby un-healthfully attached to u, imo, if you encourage them to continue to grow and become ever more independent and to be held by/spend time with others in your family/friends. If they're clingy anyway, they actually probably would've been no matter what - some of us are people-people, and tend towards clingyness and/or slower maturing. We WILL gradually go out on our own more, better if not pressured ! Anyways, on the potty training. Sometimes it CAN actually go easier starting them asap. Before they get so used to just sitting in their own poop. Yes, this means more months of helping them, wiping them etc. while they're so little, but you'd be spending that time anyways. Boys esp. tend to be the ones much slower to potty train, either regardless, or if u miss an early opportunity and then you're stuck still working on it at 4 years old. Most of mine were pretty well trained by 3 and a half. I didn't know about the super early starting method at the time, just started at about 2 years on average.
I feel so incredibly seen. This is so accurate I laughed and cried at the same time. I made like a chortle sound!❤️ Also I 100% sent pics to the entire family when we got a successful # 2. Working on wiping and hope to have them trained on that before they go off to college.
I really don't miss having toddlers lol my daughter is 16 now and teaching her to drive is another thing we have to deal with now lol
Ally, it doesn’t get better, just different, lol.😉
@@ladypaz yes fr!! Lol
@@ladypaz And then as they morf into young adults they get rude and make you glad you can push them out the door to college. Always testing the limits of your love and pushing your buttons expertly along the way. Parental love is unconditional, but one does not need to subject themselves to the abuse the big ones can lay out. It is ok to tell them they are being rude and that you need to not be around them while they can not treat you with respect. Always model the behavior you want them to take on.
@@evansfamily8156 so true. They can really put you through the wringer.
Oh heck no, that’s my husbands job. I’m SUCH a bad driver, no one wants me to teach it.
Lol, awesome guys! Funny video and totally relatable. Going through the early stages right now.. stage 5 scares us! 😬😭
If its still hot where you are, take away pants privileges for an afternoon... nudity seems to increase body awareness and also, its super cute running thru the sprinkler...
RIP to those with toddlers during the tp crisis of 2020😂😂
You two are adorable on another level. Keeping the dream alive for us singles. I just love your guy's videos ❤
Heidi's "naaaaaay" killed me haha
I do in home daycare and it’s amazing how many times potty accidents happen on the floor right in front of the toilet. You were right there!! 😂
"The potty is evil and must be avoided at all costs." -my 2 year old grandson
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
OMG, the relapse stage - F.A.C.T 🤣
And the ending, 🤣
Well done guys! And having comments in yt is sweet.
Love this!! We are currently potty training and I was laughing and nodding along 🤣
Oh gosh this was perfect timing video🤣🤣🤣 I’m at the stage where every store we get into he has to use the bathroom 🚽 idk if he is just marking his favorite stores or what 🤣🤦🏽♂️
Truth!! We used that potty seat with our last kiddo. Greatest thing ever! 😂
I freakin love this family so much!! They always brighten my day. May God bless them 💖
We potty trained twins at about 2.5 years. One picked it up in like a week the other took like a month. This video is spot on. Love the work. Been a subscriber for a long time. Glad I can finally comment
Coming from an early childhood educator you guys are doing just fine lol most children will not be completely potty trained within a couple days! It takes time and make sure the child is ready for it
This was hilarious!!! And, I think most parents can relate 100% 🤣😂
Just potty trained my 26 month old over a 3 day weekend. Lots of positivity and celebration every time even a little bit gets in the toilet.
Love it! I'm potty training my son right now lol This is so my life right now
Good luck my friend!! It's an uphill battle!
As my little guy is approaching 1, I have this to look forward to. Yay!
Best video you all have done i think... both funny and 100% the truth!
I love your videos, what a great way to start the day!
Thank you for that ending! I think we’re on regression 3 or 4 now, and this time is so bad that he’s having anxiety attacks. So it’s back to diapers and praising when he pees or poos anywhere appropriate. We’re not sure what triggered it, so we are just focusing on calm, high fives, and pointing out when the line changes color.
Love this….brings back many memories. My kids are in their 20’s. 😅
Our youngest is 15. I do not miss the potty stage AT ALL. God bless all y'all who are currently in the trenches.
Potty training breaks you! I’ve got a 7 month old, & another on the way. Fortunately the 11 yr old wipes his own now haha! With 2 dogs & farm animals, poo for days! This video is GOLD! 😅👍
I love the taking pictures with the cell phone. I totally did that with my daughter. I send pictures to my husband when he's at work and we both get super excited!.
I have 2 year old twins we've just stared training... omg if I didn't have your guys videos to relate and laugh to I'd probably cry. Thank you so much!
So so true! Relapse was frustrating the first two kids. Actually all of them but now when we're prepared for our daycare families to go through it.
I love you guys! You're so relatable to our crazy lives 🤪❤
I lost it at the rewards!! Lol, I love these guys!
love this. I can empathize with you guys and of course, nobody is perfect and no kids got there without any of these unsuccessful moments. This is quite a hard job mostly because a parent can get overstressed. But it won't last long :)
The fourth stage had me rolling!!! So true you relish in the success!!! Take selfies and post about it!!! 🤣🤣🤣 your children will be so proud to hear about it when they grow up!!!
Love your videos.Makes my day .
It is unreal how accurate these are. you always post a video of exactly what we are going though!
Just did this with my youngest boy a few months ago. Thankfully he’s good now my goodness my girls were so much easier
"An F'n shetland pony!!". That made me laugh so hard.
My wife is a preschool teacher ❤. She is training all the time.
You'd think she would be potty trained before she started teaching.
We are in stage 5! It is so real!!! Thanks for helping every parent laugh about it!
Our first son was a learning experience for us. We learned if you pay them every time they use the potty, they learn really quick.
You guys are so funny and amazing!!!!
You have some of the most relatable content on CZcams.
You guys are the very best!
Watching you two restores my faith in humanity.
This video resonates with every fiber of my being
Hi from Nashville
Great videos you guys are great together
What nightmares are currently made of at my house. Will they ever all be potty trained 😝😬😳
It will happen! Dont give up!
OMG when Heidi Yay-Neighed I almost woke my kid up laughing!
Hahahaha! You’re killing me! “Right next to the laminate! Why!!!”
So true!! Going down this road now!!
Awesome video guys!
Heidi!!!! I just gave birth with my first baby a week ago and you saved my nipples lol after 2 days my nips were raw!!!! I remembered you mentioned silverettes in one video and that totally saved me!!!! 😫😌
This is hilarious. 'The more you know!'
Hilarious!!!! So on point lol
LOVE this one haha! It’s so funny because it’s SO true hahaha!
Love it!
This is so relatable!!! The relapse is the worst part haha.
We have successfully train one of ours working on #2 right now # 3 will be next This video is very accurate on potty training haha
Dunno about the snickers being a reward for #2....Something way to familiar for my comfort level hahaha.
Love you guys!
Went through all these phases with my first. Now we are staying in pull-ups till he’s fully trained no matter what!!! That first time was a nightmare! 😩
So relatable, I'm not considering us potty trained until both my twins pull down their training pants and sit on the potty with no accidents for a month. And even then I'm keeping training pants on hand just in case of a relapse lol cause life with twins just has a bunch of surprises!
This is invaluable! Thank you!
You guys are literally the realest parents on CZcams haha
So true🤣 LOL and love all the Norwex in this video by the way 😉
😂😂😂 that was great and totally understand.
All accurate. You guys are the best lol
This is a well timed video 🤣
The dad snort at the end was perfect. 😂
Love this.
Sooooo accurate 😂😂😂👌🏽💯
Great timing! We just hit stage 2! Aka... We just started and haven't given in to "incentives" yet. Also, I loved that neigh!
Oh my gosh! Yes!! So accurate!! 😂😅😍
Y'all are hilarious!
You guys are awesome
I love the more you know part. Reminds me of my childhood! Thanks for the laughs as always… it’ll be funnier when my kid is out of the relapse stage… -Lindsay
You two are hilarious
Love the SCHEELS plug!
So true!!!
That selfie in front of a toliet with "soup can" in it to send the grandparents 😂 😂
Preach
This is great. We just tried "3 day potty training" with our toddler last week and hit every single one of these phases
Too accurate 😂
🤣 great video!
“A Shetland F#*$ing pony!!!”
LMAO!!!!
And here I am yelling, “I spot a Norwex bottle!!” 😂❤
