She is a great instructor..look beyond the test to drive competently without someone next to them..that's what is being assessed.

That's actually so damn true. I failed my driving test like 4 times because I kept getting nervous and forgetting the basics in safety. In the end, my driving instructor recommended me to take those Bach's calming drops, and then I passed 😂

i can honestly say i learned how to drive properly after i passed my test. when i was taught i had a great instructor, but everything was so robotic and nothing felt natural. it felt like if i wanted to be able to drive i have to do so in a completely uniform way where i have to follow all these rules regardless of whether or not it was necessary.
i think i'm quite a safe driver, but it felt more like riding a bike after passing my test because now i knew i didn't have to robotically do everything in a specific order when coming to a junction or a roundabout. i now just do what i think is safe.

The cost of driving lessons has increased way too much on the last 10 years. I had lessons for £20/hour for a mix of both automatic & manual although mostly manual in 2016. Now it's around £40. That's double!

The real answer of this is simple:
A Driving Instructor's job is to teach you the basics about driving safely - the rest comes with experience, as the average learner passes their test in 30-40 hours.
Passing a test requires you to demonstrate that you are able to drive safely on a basic/beginner level.
You cannot reasonably say that you aren't taught how to drive, because if you had to learn for real-real everyone would have to pay 200-300 hours worth of lessons.

My instructor I guess said it best. Learners need more hours to learn to drive and not just to learn to pass.
First of, learners want to save money see and as less lessons = less money spent.
I am one of them too I won't lie.
But at the same time, getting "test ready" with a few lessons only teaches you how to pass. And usually this route will get you your license but at the same time you will have anxiety driving all alone.
Her saying that she is teaching them to drive safely and then it morphs into teaching them how to pass at the end don't make sense.
It makes sense if she teach them in less hours. That is why she is then forced to teach them how to pass and now how to actually drive and drive safely.
Its just a matter of teaching them for longer hours and they will become both good drivers and safe ones.
Mean while you can go the route of actually driving with your instructor as long as you can 50+ until you are so confident that not only you will pass.
But you are also confident that once you pass you can drive on your own without anxiety.
I have seen some of her videos of Learners we thought would fail but passed.
And then once they got back to film a video with her again while being a full license holder, they make a lot of mistakes that would easily fail them in a driving test.
Not to mention, test routes change.
There are some test route that can be easy to pass.
But there are also test routes that require you to drive through multiple spiral roundabouts and tricky roads and that can be a nightmare specially if you are new to them or did not do much of them.

You actually have to learn more once you have passed your test. I think she is trying her very best to teach people to drive. Many people who pass their test just seem to forget what they have been taught. Unfortunitly the levels of good drivers has diminish in the UK. 🤔

    It's a flawed question, cause it's both.
I think there's a certain standard to teach people up to to prevent avoidable accidents which is good.
I think the test can be a bit too harsh from time to time, like does it really matter if your left blind spot check becomes 8 seconds old before pulling off?
And they have to teach you to pass the test or what's the point?

    • @029_Ben

Yeah like if youre not sure you can fit through a gap so you hang back and it turns out that you couldve fit through it then you get marked down for being safe and cautious? it makes no sense

    • @colinjava8447
      @colinjava8447 Před 8 měsíci

@@029_Ben I don't think you would generally, but examiners aren't all the same, some will be harsher than others.
If you're not sure whether you can fit through or if there's time to pull out a junction then hold back, a minor for hesitation is better than a serious or dangerous.
The whole amber light thing is annoying on your test but I got lucky with it and didn't have to make the choice to go or stop.
