All the instruments are played by John Deacon, only the keyboards are played by Freddie.
From the album "Hot Spaces" which is full of pop and R&B influences, this song is one of the most soulful tracks on the record. It was written by bassist John Deacon and Freddie Mercury.
This song is not only a Queen rarity as far as genre is concerned, It’s also one of few in which Freddie Mercury sings entirely in falsetto, and one of few to feature no contributions from either drummer Roger Taylor or guitarist Brian May, both of whom despised the album’s new sound as a whole, with “Cool Cat” being one of the most blatant examples.
This was one song where Brian and Roger got it wrong. YOU got it right - like Jazz without the jazz, soulful!

The best thing is to get on a crowded bus with this song playing in the headphones, nothing can shake you! I don't know if I've already recommended it, but there's a wonderful song by Queen called One Vision, inspired initially by the words of Martin Luther King, it sounds amazing. I love the extended version of the studio video because it has footage of them actually recording in the studio, and it's really fun to see how they work. ❤️

Wow his opening whooo got my ears and eyes widening, how beautiful this song is.
I love this one so much. My go to whenever I'm feeling down, a couple of plays of 'Cool Cat ' and all is well. As others have mentioned, this one is pure Deacury. John and Freddie wrote it but Brian and Roger didn't like it at all. The result, Freddie took the vocals and keys while John took care of everything else.
